Huawei P40 series uses Samsung’s OLED screens

Samsung Display is the biggest and most popular smartphone OLED panel manufacturer in the world. The company supplies OLED screens for hundreds of smartphone models, including the ones from Apple, Huawei, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Huawei’s recently released P40 series uses Samsung’s OLED panels as well.

According to a report from South Korean tech publication TheElec, Huawei exclusively uses Samsung’s OLED screen in the P40 Pro+. The P40 Pro uses screens from China’s BOE as well as Korea’s LG Display and Samsung Display. The Huawei P40 exclusively uses BOE’s OLED screens. This goes on to show that Huawei prefers OLED panels from Samsung for its most premium phones, and this could be due to Samsung’s higher quality and better supply chain.

Huawei’s top-of-the-line P40 smartphone exclusively uses Samsung’s OLED screen

The Huawei P40 features a 6.11-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. The P40 Pro and the P40 Pro+ use 6.58-inch OLED screens with 2640×1200 pixels resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, HDR10, and DCI-P3 color gamut. In comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series features OLED screens with QHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage.

Samsung uses OLED screens in over 60% of its phones, while Huawei uses OLED screens in just 20% of its phones.

Huawei’s P40 series focuses on photography and videography. The P40 features a triple-camera on the rear, while the P40 Pro and the P40 Pro+ feature quad-camera and penta-camera setups, respectively. They all use 50MP (1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor) primary cameras on the rear and 32MP+3D IR dual-camera setup on the front.

The P40 Pro also features a 12MP 5x optical zoom camera, a 40MP ultrawide-angle camera, and a 3D ToF camera. The Pro Pro+ uses an 8MP 3x optical zoom camera, an 8MP 10x optical zoom camera, a 40MP ultrawide-angle camera, and a 3D ToF camera. Both front and rear-facing cameras on all three phones can record up to 4K 60fps videos.

This Galaxy Note Fold concept scratches an itch for many Samsung fans

Many Samsung fans felt that the Galaxy Fold presented Samsung with a great opportunity to expand its portfolio of devices that support the S Pen. The Galaxy Note is the only series of handsets from Samsung that can be used with the stylus. Many felt that the Galaxy Fold’s internal display would be the perfect companion to the S Pen.

There’s no saying if that’s ever going to happen. Samsung seems to be convinced that keeping these two lineups separate is the best course of action. So while the company may not indulge this wish that some of its fans have, an independent concept creator has developed a Galaxy Note Fold concept which scratches that itch.

Many Samsung fans would love S Pen support on the Galaxy Fold

The Concept Creator YouTube channel posted this concept of a Galaxy Note Fold today. It’s a fusion of some of the best elements from the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Fold. The device in this concept has an integrated S Pen much like the Galaxy Note handsets.

Sure, things like a 1440p 120Hz flexible display and S Pen may seem like a stretch, but this concept does signify some of the improvements that we can expect from the Galaxy Fold’s successor. The upcoming foldable smartphone is expected to feature larger internal and cover displays in addition to a more robust camera setup.

Some early Galaxy Fold 2 rumors have hinted at S Pen support but it’s soon to say if that’s actually going to be true. Other rumors have claimed that the handset will have a larger 7.7-inch foldable display compared to the 7.3-inch panel in the Galaxy Fold. Samsung is expected to launch its second foldable smartphone of the year in August but it remains to be seen if that will happen, depending upon how this pandemic situation plays out in the coming months.

Would you be excited about a Galaxy Fold that essentially doubles as a more massive Galaxy Note handset? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Galaxy Note 20+ 5G hits benchmark with Snapdragon 865, 8GB RAM

The Galaxy Note 20+ has popped up in the online benchmark Geekbench for the first time, proving that Samsung has pushed the device deep into development. The phone carries model number SM-N986U, which should correspond with the 5G variant given that the Note 10+ 5G is known as the SM-N976U.

The motherboard is codenamed ‘kona,’ which means that the Galaxy Note 20+ 5G is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset – same as the Galaxy S20 series in regions where it doesn’t employ the in-house Exynos solution instead. This makes sense, given how the SM-N976U model number corresponds to the US market, where the Snapdragon solution is preferred by Samsung.

Snapdragon 865, 8GB of RAM, Android 10 seem to be on-board

Other details revealed by the benchmark include 8GB of RAM, which is a bit odd given that the Galaxy S20 5G has 12GB of RAM as standard. But keep in mind that this may be an early prototype model, so certain specs like RAM could change by the time the phone will be ready for the market.

As expected, the Galaxy Note 20+ runs Android 10 out of the box, and it should be Samsung’s first smartphone to ship with One UI 2.5 out of the box. Benchmark scores suggest that the Galaxy Note 20+ tackles both the single-core and multi-core tests with more success when compared to the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, as you can see in the gallery below.

Keep in mind that early benchmark scores for unreleased devices aren’t always representative of the final product. They are subject to change, but regardless, the Galaxy Note 20 series should use the same chipset as the Galaxy S20 and performance should be similar.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we learn more about the Galaxy Note 20 series. Until then, check out this recent leak revealing an important design element of the upcoming phablet, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

New Always On Display update improves layouts, fixes a couple of bugs

Samsung is rolling out a new update for Always On Display, pushing the app to version 5.2.05.8. It fixes a couple of bugs related to Dark Mode and Bluetooth-connected keyboards, and also claims to improve the layouts for some clock styles.

Before this update, Always On Display had an issue whereby the background would turn gray when using a Bluetooth keyboard. AOD settings were also difficult to see while Dark Mode was enabled on certain themes. These bugs have now been addressed with version 5.2.05.8.

You don’t need One UI 2.1 for this update

The update is rolling out now, and we can confirm that it is available at least on the Galaxy Note 10 (running One UI 2.0 and not the latest One UI 2.1 update). But the new Always On Display version should be pushed to more Samsung devices as we speak.

You can check which Always On Display version you’re running by opening Settings, navigating to Lock screen » Always On Display (don’t tap the toggle, but the text itself), and tapping About Always On Display. If the update hasn’t reached your phone yet, you may have to wait for a few more days. You can also launch the Galaxy Store on your phone, tap the ‘hamburger’ menu in the upper-left corner, and check if the new version is waiting for you in the Updates category.

Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G lets you use 3 SIMs, or 2 SIMs and a microSD card

The Galaxy S20 is Samsung’s second smartphone (series) to feature an eSIM, after the Galaxy Fold. The new flagship also has dual SIM slots, one of which is a hybrid, in addition to an eSIM in most markets. Technically, this allows you to have three SIMs running on your phone, or two SIMs and one microSD card at the same time – something that we were looking forward to since the beginning of the year, particularly as far as the Galaxy S20 Ultra was concerned.

This seems to be true for the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, at the very least. This characteristic was initially brought to light by teltarif last month, and more recently we were able to test this feature on German firmware for ourselves, post-review. However, as of this writing, we are unsure if this mode of operation is supported by the other Galaxy S20 models or the Galaxy S20 Ultra LTE.

With two physical SIMs and an eSIM, only one physical SIM stays active at a time

On the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, at least, you can set up an eSIM and use it in conjunction with SIM slot 1 as well as a microSD. Alternatively, you can fit two physical SIM cards and an eSIM, but you will only be able to keep the eSIM and SIM slot 1 active at the same time. It looks like the eSIM and the second SIM slot don’t work simultaneously, regardless of whether you’re going for a 3-SIM configuration or a dual SIM+microSD. However, you can manually switch between SIM slot 2 and the eSIM when you need to use the former.

Which Galaxy S20 model do you use? Are you going to test this for yourself? Leave a comment below.

Samsung Galaxy M21 coming to the Netherlands and Belgium soon

The Galaxy M21 will soon be coming to the Netherlands and Belgium, as support pages for the handset have popped up on local Samsung websites.

There’s still no word on when exactly will the entry-level handset actually hit the store shelves in either country, and the same goes for its pricing. The 64GB/4GB model starts at the equivalent of €160 in India, so it will presumably not be priced at over €200 in Europe after applicable VAT rates are factored in.

Another value-oriented smartphone from Samsung

What can currently be inferred from Galaxy M21 support pages that just went live on Samsung’s Dutch and Belgian pages is that Samsung is planning to bring the Midnight Blue and Raven Black variants of the device to both markets. The same source also reveals the model number of the 6.4-inch phablet coming to Europe – SM-M215F/DSN.

The Galaxy M21 went official in mid-March, sporting a 6,000mAh battery and 48-megapixel wide-angle camera as its main selling points. Originally announced in India, the Android 10 smartphone is also on its way to Germany, according to a similar listing.

As of today, the Galaxy M21 can also be purchased in Vietnam. It’s presently unclear whether Samsung is planning to bring the 128GB/6GB version of the Galaxy M21 to Europe, as well. Both utilize the tech giant’s own Exynos 9611 system-on-chip, a 20-megapixel front camera, USB Type-C port with 15W fast charging support, and a microSD card slot.

The Galaxy M21 is another primarily value-oriented product from Samsung in a year that so far hasn’t been kind to the company’s more expensive offerings. Given the appearance of its support pages, it’s likely the handset’s release in the Benelux region is mere weeks away.

Samsung fans have had it with the company’s Exynos processors

For the longest time, Samsung has been equipping its flagships with its in-house Exynos chipsets in most countries and selling the same devices with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chip in select markets like the US and China. Having its in-house mobile processor was a major advantage for Samsung back in 2015. Qualcomm’s flagship chip that year, the Snapdragon 810, ran too hot, and while other Android manufacturers were stuck without an alternative, Samsung simply decided to use its Exynos chipset worldwide.

However, while 2015 may have been a bad year for Qualcomm, the American chipmaker learned its lesson and doubled down on making sure that its Snapdragon chips were the best you could get on an Android smartphone going forward. And, in recent years, Snapdragon chips have surpassed Samsung’s Exynos processors as well, particularly when it comes to efficiency and, therefore, battery life.

Things really care to a fore with the Galaxy S8, when tests done by multiple publications found the Snapdragon 835 inside the Galaxy S8 to be more efficient than the Exynos 8895. And it’s a theme that has been seen across all of the Exynos and Snapdragon chips that have found their way into Galaxy flagships since then. Last year, Samsung fell almost a generation behind when the Galaxy S10’s Exynos 9820 was built on an 8nm manufacturing process instead of a 7nm process like the Snapdragon 855.

Exynos continues to be inferior, and people are not happy

This year is no different, unfortunately. The Galaxy S20 that’s powered by the Snapdragon 865 has shown better efficiency than the Exynos model in real-life tests done by different websites. People have been complaining about the disparity between Exynos and Snapdragon chipsets for a long time at this point, but now, with Samsung’s flagship phones costing as much as $1400, the disparity has become quite frustrating for Samsung fans (including us here at SamMobile).

Samsung’s shareholders aren’t happy, either: The company was grilled at its annual shareholder meeting recently for reasons why it continues to sell its phones with Exynos chipsets despite the poorer performance compared to Snapdragon SoCs. Samsung didn’t really have any useful answer other than the fact that using its in-house chips helps it generate revenue for its semiconductor division.

A business decision that’s unfair for the customer

Basically, it’s a purely business-minded decision, and it’s completely unfair for customers who buy these flagships. Why should customers in the US and China get a superior processor inside their phone while the rest of the world gets to pay the same amount of money for reduced performance and/or efficiency? Why should the consumer care about how they help Samsung’s semiconductor division generate revenue instead of simply, say, move to the competition?

After all, every major competing manufacturer except Huawei uses the latest and greatest Snapdragon processor inside their flagships, and in many cases, sells them at lower prices. Those flagships may not offer the kind of all-rounder package that you get with Galaxy flagships, but is that going to be enough for everyone considering the fact that a Galaxy flagship offers a better experience to customers in select countries?

It’s especially disdainful for Samsung to keep peddling its not-so-good Exynos processors in most markets now that its flagship phones start at prices as high as $1400. And people are beginning to wake up to this unfair practice. In the Samsung Members app in India, for example, there are tons of posts from Galaxy users asking why Samsung continues to sell Exynos variants of its flagships in the country. We also see similar comments from readers worldwide here on SamMobile, and some users even decided to start a petition on the matter on Change.org just a few weeks ago.

There is hope for Exynos processors, but it might be too late

The efficiency problems with Exynos chips started right about the time Samsung started designing custom CPU cores, but there are rumors that the Exynos 990 found inside the Galaxy S20 lineup will be the last Exynos chip to use custom CPU cores. Samsung is also said to be working with AMD for a mobile GPU, so the poorer performance of ARM’s Mali GPUs – the ones Samsung uses for Exynos processors – compared to Qualcomm’s Adreno GPUs could cease to be a problem as early as next year.

With Samsung selling the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S20 in South Korea, it may even bring the Snapdragon variants of its flagships to more markets in the future. But that’s no solace for customers who have already purchased an Exynos-powered Galaxy S20, Galaxy S10, or Galaxy Note 10 or are looking to do so. Right now, they don’t get the same value-for-money as customers who get the Snapdragon variants, and that’s simply not palatable for the price tags that are attached to Samsung’s latest flagships.

What do you think? Do you think Samsung should stop using Exynos processors, or perhaps make sure Exynos chips are as good as the Snapdragon alternative? Do you think the differences aren’t big enough to matter and are okay with paying for either variant? Let us know down in the comments!

Check out these Galaxy S20 wallpapers showing the internals, X-Ray too

If you’re fascinated by your smartphone’s internals or internal layout as much as you are about its exterior design (or more so), you’re probably going to love these new Galaxy S20 wallpapers provided by iFixit. They offer a close look at your smartphone’s internal hardware, without you having to disassemble the device and risk damaging it.

The wallpapers are meant for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. Granted, you can use them on virtually any Galaxy smartphone, but they consist of actual photos of the Galaxy S20 series after disassembly, and they wouldn’t match another phone’s internal layout. The wallpapers come in different flavors, including darkened ones to keep your home screen a bit cleaner, should you find the regular photos to be too distracting.

Alternatively, you can also download an X-Ray version of each wallpaper. They not only have a different look but also showcase additional components buried deeper under the hood. As for an actual disassembly, you can check iFixit’s video of the Galaxy S20+ for a better idea of what’s inside your phone, and how difficult it might be to repair. Spoiler alert; it gets a fairly low repairability score.

You can check their website to download these wallpapers, a few of which you can check in the gallery below. Don’t forget that we also offer tons of stock wallpapers for different Galaxy smartphones and tablets, so check the link if you prefer those.

Samsung’s smartphones in India are priced higher after the GST increase

Samsung India is adjusting its smartphone prices after the Indian government has decided to increase the goods and services tax (GST). Smartphones, as well as feature phones, are included in this category, and they will be subjected to an 18% tax starting today, up from 12%.

91mobiles has acquired a list from retail sources, which seemingly reveals Samsung’s new prices for its entire lineup, ranging from its most affordable feature phone known as the Eider (E1200) to the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Fold. Beginning today, retailers will offer the standard Galaxy S20 for INR 70,500 ($923) instead of the original INR 66,999 ($877) asking price.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G carries an INR 97,900 ($1,282) price tag instead of INR 92,999 ($1,218). The Galaxy Fold’s price has increased from INR 164,999 ($2,162) to INR 173,835 ($2,277), while the Galaxy Z Flip will cost INR 115,890 ($1,518) as opposed to of INR 109,999 ($1,441). The Samsung Eider feature phone, along with other devices in this category, will also cost more. The Eider should now be available for INR 1,150 ($15.07), up from INR 1,100 ($14.41)

Samsung is not the only company that’s being forced to hike the prices of its smartphones in India after the GST increase. Competitors from China including Oppo and Vivo have done the same. Technically speaking, none of these OEMs should be at an advantage or experience any changes as far as their market rivalry is concerned. As for how much more consumers will need to spend per device, you can refer to the lists below. Keep in mind that the information doesn’t come directly from Samsung so prices could vary slightly from one retailer to another.

Galaxy S20 buyback program offers generous 50% money back guarantee

It may be April Fool’s Day, but Samsung is serious about offering between $500 to $800 in savings on the Galaxy S20 line in the United States. The move, likely made to combat the flagship line’s slow start, comes in the form of an unprecedentedly generous buyback program.

The gist of it is that anyone who buys the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, or Galaxy S20 Ultra is guaranteed to receive 50% of the handset’s full retail price back if they return it to Samsung within two years. Making matters even more surprising is the fact Samsung will be returning that money via the same method you used to pay for an eligible device, not credit that can only be used for purchasing a new Samsung device.

Samsung may upend the second-hand market for Galaxy phones

While the promotion does come with some stipulations, that doesn’t diminish its potential to fundamentally change the second-hand market for Samsung’s premium smartphones. Used Galaxy flagships tend to lose way more than 50% of their original price after two years, and that’s without even venturing into the refurbished territory.

Naturally, the deal doesn’t apply to handsets that aren’t fully functional or show external damage that can’t be attributed to “normal wear and tear”, leaving Samsung with enough leeway to accept or reject returns on a case-by-case basis. Perhaps the biggest catch is that you won’t be eligible for a buyback guarantee if you get your new handset with a financing plan, or as a Samsung Upgrade option.

The program is already live in the U.S. and requires customers to place an order on one of the Galaxy S20 models from either the Shop Samsung app or Samsung.com. Taking advantage of the newly launched buyback guarantee is then as simple as navigating to the My Orders section of either storefront and placing a return request under the eligible order.

According to Samsung’s FAQ pages, the buyback program may expand to more devices in the future. It’s also compatible with standard trade-in offers, but not the most aggressive ones that tend to accompany new smartphone launches. The guarantee doesn’t extend to Galaxy S20 accessories, though you can still add those to the same order.

It remains to be seen whether this promotion does anything to help bolster Galaxy S20 sales. Due to a variety of reasons, the product line is now expected to sell worse than the Galaxy S10 range. Many Samsung fans will certainly hope that the company expands this buyback program to other markets as well.

Samsung USA wins 12th Energy Star Partner of the Year award

Samsung Electronics America has received the 2020 Energy Star Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence award. It is a mouthful, but what it means is that the company has been recognized once again for its efforts to environmental protection through the energy efficiency of its consumer products, as well as its educational programs in the country.

The company not only manufactures energy-efficient appliances, but it also engages in environmental education initiatives to educate both employees and students on the value of energy savings. All of the company’s washers manufactured at its Newberry facility, ranging from top-load to front-load machines, carry the Energy Star certification.

It’s the company’s 12th Partner of the Year award

Samsung had revealed that as of 2019, 33 of its products were rated by the EPA as Most Efficient. Since 2009, savings guaranteed by the Energy Star certificate carried by Samsung products have topped an estimated 243 million tons of CO2 emissions.

This isn’t the first time when Samsung’s energy-efficiency efforts are being recognized in the USA. It’s the company’s 12th Partner of the Year award. It’s also the 7th time it has secured the Sustained Excellence Award.

Anne Idsal, EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation, said I salute the 2020 Energy Star award winners as they demonstrate how energy efficiency drives economic competitiveness in tandem with environmental protection. LG Electronics was also among the winners of the Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence award.

Samsung fights coronavirus in India with air purifiers, PPE, food, and more

Samsung’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic continues, and its efforts have now extended into India. A company representative cited by the local media confirmed that Samsung is to provide Personal Preventive Equipment (PPE) kits to hospitals across the country. Samsung will also provide infrared thermometers, public address systems, and air purifiers.

The PPE kits for hospital personnel include surgical face masks, gloves, medical gowns, eyewear, hood caps, and shoe covers. They are essential in combating the spread of coronavirus, not only in India but across the globe. The company managed to improve the production of surgical face masks in South Korea by establishing smart factories in collaboration with domestic manufacturers and had already donated over a quarter-million masks overseas.

Samsung is supporting communities with ready-to-eat meals

Samsung is also supporting local police by providing cooked food packets to communities around its manufacturing plants in India. Its smartphone factory in Noida was temporarily shut down last week in accordance with the local government’s policy. The company also urged its employees in different areas including sales, marketing, and R&D, to work from home.

Customer call centers and service centers in India have been temporarily shut down, and warranties on a variety of product categories – including smartphones, TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, etc. – that were set to expire by April 30 have been extended to May 31. Meanwhile, Samsung hopes that its Service Vans will soon be back in action, covering the diverse terrain of India and reaching your doorstep. But seeing how the coronavirus pandemic is not yet under control, only time will tell when this might happen.

Another case of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was found among Samsung employees, this time on US soil, and specifically at the Samsung Austin Semiconductor facilities. The employee tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on March 28 but has been out of office since March 13.

According to KXAN citing Samsung Austin Semiconductor spokeswoman, Michele Glaze, the company had implemented precautionary deep cleaning and sanitation on-site’ according to the local health authorities guidelines. She added that Samsung will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees.

Samsung’s production lines have not been affected

This is the second case of coronavirus found at one of Samsung’s semiconductor facilities. The first case was confirmed last week at the Giheung semiconductor factory in South Korea. However, the Austin Semiconductor facility is not a part of the company’s main silicon operations.

Its foundry business in Texas produces chips primarily for corporate customers in Austin. Roughly one year ago, some reports were hinting that Samsung may want to build a new chip plant in the USA to expand its operations. Samsung denied the rumors, and no news on the matter emerged since.

According to Michele Glaze, the production lines at Samsung’s Austin Semiconductor plant have not been affected by the recent coronavirus case. The factory remains operational.

Samsung India extends device warranties amidst coronavirus lockdown

Samsung India is following the example of a slew of Chinese manufacturers and extending device warranties for products from a wide range of categories, including smartphones, refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, and more, as the world’s largest democracy goes through a nationwide lockdown to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Those who own a Samsung product whose warranty is set to expire between March 20 and April 30 can now avail their warranties till May 31. That should be particularly useful for those who purchased one of the three Galaxy S10 models when they went on sale last year. Samsung has also extended the period for redeeming Galaxy S20 pre-order offers from March 31 to April 30, as the company isn’t taking or delivering orders during the lockdown.

India is currently in the middle of a 21-day nationwide lockdown that prohibits citizens from stepping out of their homes for all non-essential purposes, and Samsung and many other manufacturers have stopped taking orders and shuttered their support operations as a result. Whether or not Samsung will bring the warranty and Galaxy S20 pre-order redemption extensions to other countries is unclear at the moment, though we will be sure to let you know once we learn more on that front.

Android 10 update now rolling out to the Galaxy A10s

The Android 10 and One UI 2.0 rollout for Galaxy smartphones continues: Samsung has now released the update for the Galaxy A10s, one of its most affordable A series phones from last year and sibling to the company’s top-selling smartphone globally in Q3 2019. The update is rolling out in Malaysia and comes with software version A107FXXU5BTCB. Just how quickly the update will reach other markets is something we will have to wait and see.

Since the Galaxy A10s is a budget-grade device, we can expect it to get the bare essentials of One UI 2.0, though that’s not to say it won’t get some useful new functionality. You can expect all of the base functionality from Android 10 as well, including Google’s navigation gestures, improved privacy controls, and improved Digital Wellbeing with parental controls and Focus mode. The update also includes the March 2020 security patch.

Own a Galaxy A10s and live in Malaysia? You should be able to download Android 10 by opening the phone’s Settings app, selecting Software update, and tapping Download and install. You might have to do that a couple of times before the update shows up, and if it doesn’t, you can simply download the full Android 10 firmware from our archive and install it on your phone using a Windows computer.

Have you received the Galaxy A10s Android 10 update in your country? Let us know down in the comments!

Galaxy Note 8 getting April 2020 security patch in new update

The COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t seem to be having any effect on Samsung’s update game, as the company has continued to release important updates for many of its devices in the last few weeks. We saw the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 get One UI 2.1, many mid-rangers got the Android 10 update (and so did the $2000 Fold), and the April 2020 security patch is also making its way to a few devices.

Earlier this week, Samsung released the April security patch for the Galaxy S8 and S8+, and it is now rolling out an update with the new security patch to the Galaxy Note 8. As is often the case, the update has been released in Germany, where it is available with firmware version N950FXXSADTC4. The update only includes security enhancements; as we had confirmed a few weeks ago, Android 10 is not coming to the Galaxy Note 8 or the Galaxy S8, though they will keep getting security updates for at least another couple of years.

The April security update for the Galaxy Note 8 will probably be released in more markets soon. Once it is available in your country, you will be able to download it over the air from the phone’s Settings » Software update menu by tapping Download and install. You can also find the latest firmware for the Galaxy Note 8 in our firmware archive if you wish to manually update your phone.
