Optus Australia adds Galaxy J1 as off-contract option for $169

Samsung’s Galaxy J1 has been making its rounds worldwide (since Russia, The Netherlands, India, Malaysia, and the Philippines), and it appears as though the device has made its landing in “the land down under” – but now comes with a special offer for those who love prepaid agreements and want to be as free to buy and sell new devices as possible.

The Galaxy J1 features a 4-inch, thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) with less than quarter HD resolution (800 x 480), along with a low-clocked quad-core processor (1.2Ghz), 4GB of memory, a small battery (1,850mAh), along with small-megapixel cameras (2MP front, 5MP back) and small RAM (768MB). The battery may not prove much trouble for those who’ll take advantage of Samsung’s Ultra Power Saving Mode (along for the software experience). The microSD card slot that provides 128GB of expandable storage is another “win” for the Galaxy J1 along with 4G data compatibility, so budget-friendly shoppers have a stellar buy here without a contract.

Optus is selling the Galaxy J1 for A$169, and promises a 1-2 business-day delivery time. To sweeten the deal, Optus is throwing in a 3-month free Netflix subscription.

So, how about it, Optus customers? Does the three-month Netflix deal make this more palatable to you? Do you know a friend or relative that would love to have a Samsung smartphone at an affordable price?
