Kids and smartphones. It’s a never-ending debate for parents who cannot place their children in a hut while the rest of the world flaunts their latest gadgets. What does a parent do when he or she wants a child to stay in touch? You can always get the child a basic flip phone or even a touchscreen flip phone that performs the basic tasks. However, smartphones are appealing and provide a whole range of functions on top of a quality camera experience – and parents want their children to have the best, right?
Well, Sprint customers can now set their sights on the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime as a potential smartphone for their children. Sprint announced the phone’s arrival today via its own newsroom: Every year, parents across the country head to stores looking to get their kids a high-quality smartphone their friends will envy at an affordable price. Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and the Sprint Family Share Pack make it possible for parents to give their kids a premium smartphone and enough high-speed data for the entire family without breaking the bank, said Sprint Device Strategy Director Doug Kaufman.
Turning to the Galaxy Grand Prime, the device features a 1.2Ghz quad-core processor, a 5-inch display with quarter-HD (or qHD) display with a 960 x 540 screen resolution, a 5MP front camera, 8MP back camera, with a 2,600mAh battery that, at the screen resolution provided, should more than do the job in battery life. Samsung’s Ultra Power Saving Mode (UPSM) returns in the Galaxy Grand Prime, so battery life shouldn’t be much of a problem.
While the 5MP front camera and 8MP back camera are great for a phone at this price range ($240 outright, or $29.99 with a two-year agreement and $50 mail-in rebate reward card), the phone’s one drawback outside of the screen resolution is the phone’s memory: you’ll only have 8MB (that’s right: megabytes, not gigabytes) of local memory – though you can expand your storage via a microSD card slot up to an additional 128GBs. With a phone memory this small, you’ll need a microSD card.
Sprint wants users to select a Family Share Pack plan that the company is touting as a winner over its heavyweight competitors AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. The Family Share Pack Plan provides 20GB of high-speed, 4G LTE data each month for $100 and allows you to have 5 lines under the plan itself.
The Galaxy Grand Prime has been at AT&T’s Cricket Wireless for three months now, and it’s refreshing to see Samsung’s offering makes its way to a major US carrier. The Galaxy Grand Prime will arrive at Sprint on July 10th.
