Samsung Galaxy J2 pops up on Geekbench with a quad-core CPU, Android 5.1.1

The fact that the Galaxy J2 is under development was confirmed when the phone was spotted on its way to India for testing, and today we’re getting a look at some of the J2′s specs thanks to its appearance on the Geekbench benchmark database. The benchmark doesn’t list all of the phone’s hardware, but it reveals that the J2 features a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and Android 5.1.1, in addition to a 4.7-inch display as was revealed by the import listing.

The presence of Android 5.1.1 is the notable thing here, as that would make the Galaxy J2 more current than many of Samsung’s existing devices (including flagship ones) in terms of the software. It’s highly likely we will see the new TouchWiz UX from the Galaxy S6 lineup on the J2, though it will also probably be a slightly limited version to better suit the low-end hardware, which was the case with the Android 4.4 build on the Galaxy J1.

Speaking of the J1, Samsung’s first Galaxy J smartphone was nothing to write home about, so we can only hope the J2 will be a considerable upgrade. We all know Samsung could do much better in the low-end smartphone market, but until it can start making its devices offer a better price-to-performance ratio, the company will continue to lose consumers to local manufacturers from China and India.
