Samsung sees 2.3% decline in Q2 market share

IDC has released its latest report on the state of the mobile industry for Q2 2015 which it then compares with the same time last year, it measures the number of units shipped and the manufacturer’s current overall market share. The report shows that overall the mobile industry saw an 11.6% year-over-year increase in Q2 2015 with over 337 million units being shipped by the end of the quarter.

Despite the fact that Samsung retains its position as the biggest smartphone vendor in the world the IDC registered a 2.3% decline in the company’s market share by the end of Q2 2015. The company’s overall marketshare declined from 24.8% in Q2 2014 to 21.7% in Q2 2015. A drop was also registered in shipment volumes with 73.2 million units for Q2 2015 as opposed to 74.9 million units during the same period last year. IDC says that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge arrived with mixed results as problems were compounded by supply shortages for the edge variant, all eyes are now on the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ to see if the handsets can improve Samsung’s fortunes in the next quarter.
