Samsung’s new update process will push Android security fixes OTA once per month

Samsung today announced that it’s going to implement a new Android security update process which gives priority to security patches, it will send out fixes over-the-air when security vulnerabilities are discovered, these security updates will be sent out regularly about once per month. The company says that it fast tracked security updates for Galaxy devices following the recent Android Stagefright scare, it acknowledges the importance of time in addressing such major vulnerabilities and promises to further develop this process so that timely security updates become a normal practice.

Dong Jin Koh, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Research and Development Office, IT & Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics said:

With the recent security issues, we have been rethinking the approach to getting security updates to our devices in a more timely manner. Since software is constantly exploited in new ways, developing a fast response process to deliver security patches to our devices is critical to keep them protected. We believe that this new process will vastly improve the security of our devices and will aim to provide the best mobile experience possible for our users.

Samsung is in talks with its carrier partners across the globe to implement its new approach to security updates, the company says that it will provide more information about specific models and timelines in the near future.
