Samsung’s camera and camcorder business shut down in the UK

Samsung is known for having its fingers in many pies but over recent months we have seen the company bow out of several markets where its products just didn’t have enough demand. Laptops and Chromebooks were the first to get the axe in Europe and the same fate as reserved for its camera business in several countries across the continent. Now Samsung has confirmed that it’s exiting the camera and camcorder business in the United Kingdom due to “sustained decline in demand.”

“We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In the UK, we have seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras and camcorders and related accessories. For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products. This is a local decision, based on local market conditions,” says Samsung.

It goes without saying that Samsung may continue to sell cameras and camcorders in other markets where it feels there’s ample demand, but one has to consider recent rumors about Samsung possibly shutting down its entire camera division, and frequent exits from major markets just add to the speculation about the future of its camera business.
