There’s a way to force an Android smartphone to display more content on the screen, and you can do that by changing the DPI settings. This option was added natively in Android N, but the good news is that you can access the feature in Marshmallow running Samsung smartphones.
Samsung has added native DPI scaling in its smartphones running Android 6.0. You can access this setting in the Galaxy S6, the Galaxy S6 edge, the Galaxy Note 5, the Galaxy S7, and the Galaxy S7 edge without rooting these devices. However, you’ll have to install Nova Launcher for a short time.
- Install Nova Launcher from the Play Store, and set it as your default launcher. Now long press on an empty space on the home screen and select the widgets option.
- Now select the ‘Activities’ widget (under Nova Launcher Widgets) and place it on the homescreen. You’ll now see a new menu. Find and press ‘Settings’ in the list, and then select the .DisplayScalingActivity option. This will place an icon on the homescreen.
- Once you tap that icon, you should be able to choose between two DPI scaling options: Standard and Condensed. You can also see a live preview of each DPI setting right there. After choosing the Condensed option, press Done.
- Now, you’ll be prompted to reboot the device. After the device reboots, the new DPI setting will be set.
You’ll notice that the size of app icons won’t change, but you can see a bit more content on the display. The process isn’t that hard, especially for people who would like to see more content on the display. This neat trick was discovered on XDA Forum. Maybe Samsung hid this option from plain sight and was planning to enable it through a software update in the future.
