Samsung is dominating the global mobile DRAM market

Latest data from market research firm DRAMeXchange reveals that Samsung is dominating the global mobile DRAM market. With $2.026 billion in sales, it accounted for 60.4 percent of the market in the first quarter of this year. Even though sales dropped 22.7 percent from the previous quarter due to decline in average selling price, Samsung’s DRAM market share still hit an all-time high.

Samsung’s competitor SK Hynix was only able to bring in $903 million in sales during the aforementioned period, a 23.1 percent decline from the same time last year. However, the company did increase its market share slightly by 0.8 percentage points to 26.9 percent. Samsung is now expected to increase its market share to at least 70 percent given that the gap between its adoption of microfabrication technology and that of the others has widened to about two years. While others are still working to perfect their 20-nanometer processes, Samsung has already started an 18-nanometer process this year after having started the 20-nanometer process back in 2014.
