Samsung’s hoping that more developers create new features for the edge display

The Galaxy Note 7 is Samsung’s third smartphone to feature a dual-edged AMOLED display. However, the functionality of the panel is a little underwhelming. As it stands, users can currently choose to display a clock, news ticker or a selection of other basic widgets on their edge screen.

DJ Koh, President of Samsung’s Mobile Division, believes that the “ease of use and differentiated UX for the Note 7′s edge” has the potential to make the “edge a prime identity for [its] Galaxy series,” but recognizes that the lack of innovation from developers is holding the technology back; making it less appealing to the average consumer.

“We’ve improved ease of use and grip, but most importantly, we need more third-party developers to jump on the edge. We have a basic understanding with Google that we will move in this direction. For flagship phones, the portion of edge will be expanded going forward,” Koh added.

Are you frustrated by the lack of applications available for Samsung’s edge display? Do you hope that things take a turn for the better and developers start to push out more offerings? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
