Galaxy C9 with 6GB of RAM stops by Geekbench

It was just one month ago that we leaked Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy C9 smartphone for China and said that it may have specs similar to the Galaxy A9. After seeing the device via Zauba with a 5.7-inch display and the A9-matching 6-inch display, the device has now appeared at Geekbench and gives away some important information regarding the handset.

First, it seems as though the earlier 5.7-inch display size was a prototype, since Geekbench shows the Galaxy C9 as having a 6-inch display, along with a 1.4Ghz, octa-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset, 6GB of RAM, with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow pre-installed. Yes, the Galaxy C9 (bearing model number SM-C9000), has 6GB of RAM — more than Samsung’s high-end Android handsets for 2016: the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S7 Active, and the Galaxy Note 7 all have 4GB of RAM, not 6GB. Samsung is also said to be working on a Galaxy C5 Pro and Galaxy C7 Pro as well.

Now, if you’ve been keeping track of our coverage here, the Galaxy Note 7 was rumored to launch in China with 6GB of RAM (it was spotted on Geekbench, too) some weeks ago before Samsung launched the device in the region with 4GB of RAM instead. As we’ve said here at SamMobile before, Samsung has had a difficult year in the Chinese market, with low-cost OEMs building devices for far less than the retail price of Samsung’s high-end “Galaxies” and launching them at ultra-affordable prices. Samsung said at the time that it was considering the launch of a 6GB RAM Galaxy Note 7, but for reasons unknown, failed to launch it. A Note 7 box with 6GB of RAM mentioned in the spec list indicates that the 6GB RAM Note 7 rumor may not be quite laid to rest just yet.

Here, though, we see that the Galaxy C9 has 6GB of RAM, but keep in mind that this too, can change between now and the launch of the device at some point. The Galaxy C9 is a China-exclusive device, and, in keeping pace with other OEMs there who’ve launched 6GB RAM smartphones, we could see Samsung starting the launch of 6GB RAM devices.

What do you think? Will this device launch with 6GB of RAM, or do you think Samsung will have a change of heart before the launch? Would you like to see a device with 6GB of RAM make its way worldwide?
