Google Home will reportedly be compatible with Samsung’s SmartThings platform

Along with the upcoming Pixel smartphones, Google is expected to fully announce Google Home, a Wi-Fi speaker that can also act as a voice assistant and a smart home hub. If reports are to be believed, Google’s new Amazon Alexa competitor will be compatible with Samsung’s SmartThings platform.

According to a report from AndroidPolice, the Google Home smart home hub would be compatible with SmartThings and Nest products out of the box. Google Home owners would be able to control SmartThings-connected end devices such as lights and thermostats using voice commands. SmartThings is already compatible with Amazon’s Echo smart speakers with built-in Alexa assistant. As of now, we are unclear as to what range of end devices would Google Home support via SmartThings.

Samsung launched a new lineup of SmartThings smart home devices last year, but the company faced a lot of flak due to security-related issues. The South Korean electronics giant is integrating SmartThings compatibility in a lot of products including its SUHD TVs and the Gear lineup of smartwatches. It is being reported that Google will unveil two new smartphones – Pixel and Pixel XL – as well as a 4K Chromecast, a new Wi-Fi router, the Daydream VR platform, and possible a new mobile operating system codenamed ‘Andromeda’ at an event on October 4.
