The CPSC has issued a second official recall of the Galaxy Note 7

A mere two days after Samsung announced that it would permanently halt production of the Galaxy Note 7 following several reports surfacing online of alleged ‘safe’ replacement models catching fire, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has now issued a second official recall of the handset in the United States.

“Samsung has received 96 reports of batteries in Note7 phones overheating in the U.S., including 23 new reports since the September 15 recall announcement. Samsung has received 13 reports of burns and 47 reports of property damage associated with Note7 phones,” reveals the CPSC in a statement.

The recall procedure is almost identical to the last. Owners are being instructed to immediately power down their unit and return it to its place of purchase. However, unlike last time, customers won’t be issued a replacement Note 7. Instead, they’ll have the choice of between a different Samsung smartphone or a full cash refund.
