Galaxy S8+ now receiving June security patch in Europe

Samsung has started rolling out a new maintenance update for the Galaxy S8+ (SM-G955F) in Europe. In addition to all of the patches included in this month’s security release, the upgrade transports a couple of new features to the handset, including new background colors for the navigation bar.

There’s no denying the fact it’s a relatively minor update in terms of what features brings it to the table, but it’s still nice to see the firm sticking to its word of distributing monthly security upgrades — and as far as they go, it’s a pretty big one, addressing a total of 96 Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) in the Android OS.

Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly what the vulnerabilities are. In fact, most of them are listed as “privately disclosed,” because there are some bugs that may not have been discovered by hackers yet, and they may attempt to exploit them before the firmware is pushed out.

As always, to see if the OTA is ready for your Galaxy S8+, head into Settings » About Device » Download Updates Manually. Alternatively, you can wait until you receive a notification instructing you to download the update; however, there’s a good chance that could take a little longer to arrive.
