Average selling price of Samsung’s phones go up, thanks to Galaxy S8

Even though Samsung is the largest smartphone brand in the world in terms of market share, Apple has the benefit when it comes to ASP (average selling price). Since Apple sells only high-end phones, its ASP is much higher than any other smartphone manufacturer in the world, including Samsung. However, there’s some good news for the South Korean smartphone company in this regard.

According to a report released by research firm Strategy Analytics, the average selling price of Samsung’s smartphones increased to $235 during Q2 2017. It was higher compared to $232 in Q2 2016, which then dropped to $227 during the second half of 2016. The reason behind the increase in ASP is being attributed to the higher starting price as well as sales of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+.

Samsung’s smartphone ASP has still not reached its highest ever $289 mark during the Galaxy S4 days. The company sold 93 million smartphones worldwide during the second quarter of 2017, and 19.2 million of those units were the Galaxy S8 duo. Thanks to impressive sales of high-end as well as affordable models, the company reported record profits.
