Samsung recently addressed rumors that the Galaxy S8 was lagging the Galaxy S7 in sales. The company said that this wasn’t true and that its new flagship continued to outsell its predecessor.
Samsung has shipped 20 million units of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ combined, according to a new report by market research firm Strategy Analytics.
The data compiled by Strategy Analytics shows that Samsung has shipped 278,800 units of the new flagship per day ever since it was released on April 21. The Galaxy S8 shipments are said to have crossed the 20 million mark last month.
It’s not surprising that Samsung continues to see great interest in the Galaxy S8. The company’s mobile chief DJ Koh said a couple of weeks ago that cumulative sales of the Galaxy S8 are 15 percent higher than that of its predecessor within three months of release.
It merits mentioning here that the Galaxy S8 came out in April while the Galaxy S7 was released in March last year. No wonder Samsung boasted in its earnings conference call that in some markets sales of the Galaxy S8 are double that of the Galaxy S7.
Samsung will seek to maintain this momentum in the second half of this year. It will launch a new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 8, to further strengthen its position.
