Nougat now being tested on the Galaxy C5, Galaxy C7 and Galaxy C9 Pro

Samsung has started testing the Android 7.0 Nougat firmware for the Galaxy C5 (SM-C5000), Galaxy C7 (SM-C7000) and Galaxy C9 Pro (SM-C9000) in China, according to Twitter tipster @mmddj_china. It’s unclear when the update will start making the rounds, but based on the firm’s past, we’re guessing it will start rolling out within the next month or so.

As well as enhanced notifications, improved application permissions and a bunch of fresh emoji, Android 7.0 Nougat bundles a multitude of bug fixes and speed optimizations. It’s also said to have a positive effect on battery life, thanks to the introduction of new default power saving options, but there’s a chance Samsung’s removed them.

Galaxy C9 Pro review: Not as pro as it should be

Seeing as the Galaxy C5, Galaxy C7 and Galaxy C9 Pro have all been released in a couple of other regions, we expect the upgrade to make the rounds outside of China. That said, Samsung doesn’t have the best history when it comes to major firmware updates and it’s proved to be quite unpredictable in the past — so anything’s possible.
