Scared by the consequences of taking a lax approach, Samsung has rushed to patch the BlueBorne security vulnerability on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in Europe by way of an over-the-air (OTA) update.
From what we can tell, the upgrade—G920FXXU5EQI6 and G925FXXU5EQI6, respectively—doesn’t bundle any of the changes included in last month’s Security Maintenance Release (SMR), let alone any new features.

Hold up! What’s BlueBorne?
Its only purpose is to secure the BlueBorne vulnerability, which allows remote hackers to gain complete control of a Bluetooth-enabled computer, smartphone and tablet, even when it’s not set in a discoverable mode.

The update is currently making the rounds in the Netherlands, though typically after an upgrade is released in the region, it quickly makes its way to Germany, followed by a number of other regions in Europe, including the United Kingdom.
To check to see if the OTA is ready, open Settings, select Software Update, then tap Download Updates Manually. If you don’t, however, feel like taking the manual approach, you can wait until you receive an alert instructing you to install the release.
