Samsung detailed the June 2018 security patch yesterday so it can now get down to the business of rolling out the latest security maintenance release to compatible devices. As expected, the rollout begins with the company’s mid-range smartphones. It has started rolling out the June 2018 security patch for the Galaxy A3 (2017) and the Galaxy A5 (2017).
We have been witnessing the company actually release the latest security update for one or two devices several days before it officially details the patch. That’s what happened with the Galaxy A3 (2017) earlier this week. It received an update which not only fixed the Wi-Fi reboot issues that users were facing after updating to Oreo but also included the latest security patch.
Latest security patch out now for the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 (2017)
The latest security maintenance release for the Galaxy A3 (2017) in now available in more markets. Samsung has rolled it out (firmware version ) in Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan so far. The firmware is available for download from our database.
It has also started rolling out the June 2018 security patch for the Galaxy A5 (2017) but it’s only available in one market right now. Samsung has released firmware version A520FXXU4CREF in the United Arab Emirates. It’s rolling out over-the-air in the country and is also available for download from our firmware section.
The security maintenance release for the month of June 2018 fixes five critical vulnerabilities in the Android OS in addition to many high-risk and moderate-risk vulnerabilities. There were only three vulnerabilities in Samsung’s own software that needed fixing this time around.
Expect Samsung to roll out the June 2018 security patch to more devices in the days to come.
