Samsung publishes details of the April 2019 security patch

Samsung has released the security patch details for April 2019. The company releases monthly security maintenance updates for many of its devices to fix vulnerabilities in Android OS as well as its own software. The April 2019 security patch should start making its way to compatible devices in the next few days.

Fixes five critical Android OS vulnerabilities

As always, the security maintenance release for April 2019 also contains fixes for several bugs, including five critical and dozens of high-risk Android OS vulnerabilities. One of the critical Android OS vulnerabilities fixed could enable a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on a target’s device using a specially crafted file in the context of a privileged process.

In addition, this month’s security maintenance release also includes patches for 15 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. One of the bugs could allow unauthorized users to disable some protected features without any prior authentication via Emergency mode. The new security patch adds authentication procedure before it starts Emergency mode. A smartwatch bug that allowed devices to show Secure Folder notification content in smartwatches has also been fixed.

Samsung have been pretty quick in releasing monthly security updates lately. The April 2019 security patch should also start rolling out soon. Samsung’s flagship handsets are most likely to receive the update first.
