Galaxy Note 8 update released with June 2019 security patch

Samsung has released a new update for the Galaxy Note 8, bringing the June 2019 security patch to the 2017 flagship. The June security update was released for the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 9 earlier this month, but while those devices also received new features for the camera (like a dedicated Night mode), the Note 8 update only includes the latest security enhancements.

Only security enhancements in latest Galaxy Note 8 update

And the Note 8 and the Galaxy S8 probably won’t get the camera Night mode like their successors. That’s because they don’t have the same camera hardware as the Galaxy S10 lineup. Of course, you don’t need specific hardware to have a dedicated Night mode in the camera app, but the Galaxy Note 8 will soon be two years old and the Galaxy S8 already has crossed the two-year mark, so neither device is expected to get any new features, only security updates.

The Note 8 is currently getting the new update – software version N950FXXS6DSF2 – in Iraq, Vietnam, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Serbia, and we should see more countries joining the party in the coming days. The update should be available over the air from the Software update menu of the phone’s Settings app. Galaxy Note 8 owners can also take the manual route and install the new software by downloading the related firmware from our database.
