Galaxy Tab S5e and Tab Active Pro receive September security update

Samsung has released a new firmware update featuring the September 2020 security patch for two of its very different tablets: the Galaxy Tab Active Pro and the Galaxy Tab S5e. Specifically, the latest update is available for the LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab Active Pro and the Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Tab S5e. The updates carry firmware versions T545XXU2BTG3 and T720XXS1BTI3, respectively.

The Galaxy Tab Active Pro LTE is now getting the latest update in Australia and Mexico, whereas the Galaxy Tab S5e is being updated in Colombia, Chile, and Trinidad and Tobago. If you’re eligible for the update you should be able to download it by opening Settings on your tablet, navigating to Software update and tapping Download and install. As usual, you can bypass this procedure by downloading the firmware from our archive for the SM-T545 and SM-T720 tablets (click the link for each device) and installing it using a Windows PC.

The latest firmware update doesn’t seem to include any new features or additions aside from the September 2020 security patch, but the latter is supposed to address 15 vulnerabilities in Samsung’s software and over 90 vulnerabilities affecting Android OS. Both the Galaxy Tab Active Pro and the Galaxy Tab S5e were released in H2 2019 running Android 9, but out of the two, only the Galaxy Tab S5e might be lucky enough to receive three Android OS updates after Samsung changed its policy
