Samsung Chromebook shipments boast impressive 179.2% growth

Although Samsung isn’t the first OEM that comes to mind when you think of a Chromebook, the company has shipped a significant number of the laptop globally. Unbeknownst to many people, Samsung has a wide range of affordable Chromebooks up for grabs.

A future model could even pack an Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card. A new survey from International Data Corp (via KoreaBizWire) tells us that Samsung ranks fifth globally in terms of market share in the Chromebook market.

Samsung Chromebook shipments are up considerably

In Q2 2021, Samsung shipped about 900,000 Chromebooks, which accounts for a 179.2% growth over last year’s figures. The company has about 7% market share this quarter. To put things in perspective, that figure was at 4.9% last year. However, Samsung still cannot hold a candle to Chromebook bigwigs such as HP, Lenovo Acer and Dell, which have a market share of 35%, 21%, 15.3%, and 14.5%, respectively.

Over 12 million Chromebooks were shipped globally this time around in Q2 2021. Ever since educational institutions were forced to take things online last year, Chromebook sales have gone through the roof, to the point where some models were out of stock. It is an excellent time for Samsung to establish its presence in the lucrative market, although it has a lot of work to do before it can take on the likes of HP and Dell.
