Samsung’s new phones can transfer files to phones from other brands!

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 appear to be Samsung’s first smartphones to embrace the Mutual Transmission Alliance (MTA) standard for file sharing with other brands of smartphones, although as yet, it’s unclear if the MTA protocols are integrated with Quick Share.

Samsung’s apparent decision to join forces with the MTA means that Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 owners should be able to transfer files to and from other smartphone brands with more ease. The list of MTA partners includes Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus, ASUS, Black Shark, Hisense, Meizu, and ZTE.

Even better, if Samsung did join the MTA with the launch of the Galaxy Z3 series, it will enable easier file sharing with other types of devices besides smartphones, such as laptops.

The MTA file-sharing system supports documents, images, videos, and audio files. It relies on Bluetooth LE to scan for nearby devices, and sharing is done via Wi-Fi Direct. Transfer rates can top 20Mbps.

Assuming that Samsung is now an MTA member, the company might plan on revealing more details as we approach August 27 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 start shipping to customers. If it’s real, we’ll try testing the feature for our upcoming reviews, so stick around.
