Samsung will enable the Galaxy Watch 4 ECG sensor this month in Taiwan

Samsung is enabling the ECG (electrocardiogram) feature on the Galaxy Watch 4 series in more markets. The company announced today that Watch 4 customers in Taiwan will be able to put the ECG sensor to use beginning in late November.

Samsung plans to enable the ECG sensor on the Galaxy Watch 4 series through a software update scheduled to go live in Taiwan later this month. Once the ECG functionality is enabled, Galaxy Watch 4 users can monitor their heart rate and detect signs of atrial fibrillation directly from their wrist-worn devices.

The Galaxy Watch 4 series’ ECG sensor isn’t enabled in every market yet. The wearable device requires to go through different approval processes before it can offer ECG functionalities, and these approvals can be obtained faster in some markets than others. It’s difficult to predict where ECG might go live next, but as always, we’ll keep you posted.

Samsung is giving Taiwanese customers a better trade-in deal

Samsung expects more people in Taiwan to jump on the Galaxy Watch 4 bandwagon now that ECG is coming, and the company has prepared a new incentive in the way of higher trade-in values.

Customers who purchase the Galaxy Watch 4 at the Samsung Smart Hall or Samsung Mall before December 31 have the option of trading in a different device in exchange for up to NT$2,000 bonus on the original trade-in value.

Samsung is presently selling the smaller Bluetooth-only Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic variants online in Taiwan for NT$8,990 ($323) and NT$11,990 ($427), but the prices can be higher depending on size and connectivity options. The company also sells the Galaxy Watch 4 Maison Kitsuné Edition for NT$11,990 ($427).
