Samsung Pay trial goes live in South Korea

We reported last week that Samsung is going to put its new payments service to the test on a limited scale in South Korea, the trial service will last for 36 days and the company has already recruited beta testers for this purpose. Today Samsung formally announced that the Samsung Pay trial service has been launched in South Korea, the trial has gone live in preparation for the full roll out which is likely going to take place next month.

The trial is being conducted in partnership with Samsung Card which will provide select customers in South Korea with access to Samsung Pay, those who use a Galaxy S6 or S6 edge will be the first to get access to this rather unique payments service which supports both near field communication (NFC) and magnetic secure transmission (MST) technologies. It was previously believed that Samsung Pay would be launched in South Korea and the United States in September alongside the Galaxy Note 5, but seeing as how the device will be launched next month instead, perhaps the payments service might also go live in August. Samsung is yet to confirm that though.
