Samsung working with MasterCard to bring Samsung Pay in Europe

Samsung Pay is starting to kick off but unfortunately this service is limited to a very short array of regions. This is why Samsung is now teaming up with MasterCard in hope of bringing this service to Europe. The service recently started as a trial in South Korea, and it’s coming Stateside very soon.

Right now, Samsung Pay is dubbed for a September release in the US as well as South Korea. It’s going to be a little difficult to adopt due to older card readers having difficulties recognizing the magnetic fields generated by smartphones, but Samsung has taken measures to ensure quality. The latest partnership with MasterCard brings its Digital Enablement Service for transactions which is the same tech that powers Apple Pay. Merchants won’t have to upgrade their old hardware either because Samsung will also implement MST which works with older card readers.

We expect to hear more about Samsung Pay at the upcoming Unpacked event which will kick off on the 13th of August. The event will bring forth some new Galaxy devices which ought to be compatible with Samsung Pay, so we’ll hear more about that then. In the meantime, tell us how you feel about this new partnership with MasterCard. Are you rooting for Samsung’s instant payment service to arrive in Europe? Let us know by leaving a comment.
