The Galaxy J5 comes with Gameloft games installed as system apps

One step forward, two steps back. That’s the motto Samsung seems to have followed this year when it comes to bloatware on its smartphones. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge were lauded for allowing users to disable more system apps than was possible on previous Samsung devices, and even though you can’t disable most of the preloaded apps on the S6 lineup, it was a welcome step forward from the Korean giant.

But it seems Samsung’s new direction for bloatware doesn’t fully expand to its budget smartphones yet, as the Galaxy J5 actually comes with Gameloft games preloaded as system apps. That’s right – the J5 comes installed with a couple of games that you have to take the pain to disable one by one. The Galaxy J5 (and J7) comes bundled with a deal that gives users free in-game content worth Rs. 3,200 (roughly $50) to users, so we can totally see why Samsung is doing this.

But after all the progress Android has made in terms of user control over bloatware and the wait Samsung users have had to endure before they had a similar amount of control, the company went and decided that preloading a smartphone with games that most will never play is a good idea. First it was the Microsoft apps, and now the games from Gameloft, making us wonder what Samsung will one day decide to put on its smartphones just to be able to make money off its deals with other corporations.

If only we were all in China and could disable anything and everything we wanted.
