Verizon releases Stagefright patch for Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note Edge and the Galaxy Note 4

Soon after Google released a patch for the Stagefright vulnerability in Android many thought it wouldn’t be long till the major carriers released this update, however some of them have taken their sweet time in getting this update out to users. Sprint was the first major carrier in the United States to roll out the Stagefright fix and AT&T followed suit. A couple of days later Verizon has now finally released the Stagefright fix for the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note Edge and the Galaxy Note 4.

Verizon actually started rolling out this update first for the Galaxy Note Edge but now it appears that the Stagefright fix is also being released for the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4 as well, it’s hard to believe that this update won’t soon be released for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge as well on Big Red. This much awaited update patches the crucial Stagefright vulnerability in Android that can allow hackers to gain access to a target device by just sending a MMS message with a video that has malicious code embedded in it. Since the Stagefright fiasco Samsung and Google have both committed to providing security-related updates at least once per month for Android devices.
