There’s a new update for the Galaxy Note 9 in Asia and Europe

Earlier this week, Samsung started rolling out an exciting new update for the Galaxy Note 9 in Germany — and now it’s being distributed to the masses, with customers in Austria, Cambodia, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Thailand and the United Kingdom all reporting that it’s arrived on their handset.

The update itself bundles all of the patches baked into last month’s security release, as well as a couple of additional features, including the option to set a schedule for Night mode. The biggest addition, however, is the choice to switch between either a narrow or wide field-of-view for the front-facing camera.

After upgrading, the field-of-view is set to 68-degrees by default; though with the mere click of a button it can be expanded to 80-degrees to fit more in the frame. It’s a useful software tweak Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S10, then later brought to the Galaxy S9 in March, and now it’s available on the Galaxy Note 9.

As we noted in our initial coverage, the update does not introduce a Night mode for the camera — like the one found on the Galaxy S10. Rather, the Night mode we were referring to earlier is a core function of Samsung’s One UI user interface, which, when triggered, dims the lights across the entire system to prevent visual fatigue.

Needless to say, the update is being pushed out in stages. To check to see if it’s available for your Galaxy Note 9, head into Settings, navigate to Software update, then hit Download updates manually. Alternatively, you can always download the firmware from our database to flash it on to your unit manually.
