Galaxy Note 20+/Ultra seems to have an odd screen resolution

Samsung is due to launch the Galaxy Note 20 in under two months. We’re gradually finding out more information about the device. From what we know so far, there will be two variants, the Galaxy Note 20 with a flat display and a Galaxy Note 20+/Ultra with a curved panel.

The latest finding suggests that the larger Galaxy Note 20+ may feature a somewhat odd screen resolution. It also points towards a 19.3:9 aspect ratio for the handset’s display.

New information about the Galaxy Note 20 surfaces

The Galaxy Note 20+/Ultra bearing model number SM-N986U has appeared on HTML5test where it drops some hints about its screen resolution and aspect ratio. As per the listing, it’s going to have a 3096×1444 pixel resolution and 19.3:9 aspect ratio. Earlier reports have also pointed to the same figures.

The screen resolution stands out because we haven’t seen it yet on any other Samsung device. For the sake of comparison, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 10 have a screen resolution of 3200×1440 and 3040×1440 respectively. Samsung went for a taller 20:9 aspect ratio for the Galaxy S20 while the Galaxy Note 10 is 19:9.

The Galaxy Note handsets tend to be wider anyway so the expected aspect ratio doesn’t really come as a surprise, although some things just don’t add up at this stage. The HTML5test shows a test resolution instead of the actual resolution, but it does reveal the aspect ratio.

We can expect more clarity on this down the line as detailed specs of the Galaxy Note 20 lineup will inevitably surface closer to launch. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 20 alongside the Galaxy Fold 2 at a virtual Unpacked event on August 5. The devices are said to hit shelves on August 20.
