BlackBerry’s SecuSUITE enterprise service to work with the Galaxy S6

BlackBerry has announced that the company will be bringing its SecuSUITE enterprise service to the latest Samsung launch, i.e., the Galaxy S6. The product is developed by its subsidiary, Secusmart. SecuSUITE will be made available to customers of the Galaxy S6 who also avail the KNOX security suite. Along with SecuSUIT, BlackBerry’s WorkLife too will be made available to Galaxy S6 users. The services will go live later in 2015. Take a look at the press release for more info.

Mobile World Congress 2015, Barcelona – BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB), a global leader in mobile communications, and Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd. announced today continued progress in their partnership with the planned integration of Samsung KNOX with two new BlackBerry enterprise services: WorkLife by BlackBerry® and SecuSUITE. The companies also announced that BlackBerry enterprise solutions will be offered through Samsung Business Services.

WorkLife by BlackBerry brings to KNOX the most comprehensive solution available for enterprises to accurately split mobile billing, respect employee privacy and protect corporate assets. It is the only solution that can separate work and personal voice and SMS as well as data usage. WorkLife will integrate seamlessly with Samsung KNOX, making it straightforward to split work and personal use. It’s a very flexible approach; enterprises can choose to pay for all employee usage within the KNOX container, or they can select specific work applications to be billed to the company.

BlackBerry subsidiary Secusmart and its SecuSUITE solution offers highly security-conscious organizations like governments virtually tap-proof voice and SMS communications that are secure enough for world leaders. BlackBerry and Samsung are working closely together to bring this government-grade security to KNOX-enabled smartphones, including the newly announced Samsung Galaxy S6. SecuSUITE for KNOX will use the Secusmart Security Card that, in conjunction with BES12, will provide hardware-based end-to-end encryption and cryptographically secured subscriber authentication. Voice and SMS as well as data from the KNOX Workspace will be fully encrypted and protected.

In addition to integrating solutions, Samsung will offer the growing selection of BlackBerry enterprise products and services through its new Samsung Business Services. This service will offer enterprise customers a single point of contact to help manage and support their Samsung mobile devices, along with a range of associated services and solutions. Samsung Business Services’ enterprise technology specialists will be able to provide customers guidance and technical support through the deployment and implementation of the tightly integrated, end-to-end secure solution that will bring together BES12 and Samsung devices with built-in KNOX security. That will include the new Samsung Galaxy S6, which offers mobile security through the newly launched Samsung KNOX 2.4, Samsung’s premier platform for enterprise mobile security, safety and two-factor authentication.

“Working with BlackBerry allows us both to bring more compelling solutions to the enterprise,” said Injong Rhee, Executive Vice President of Enterprise Business, IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “Workers are tired of carrying two devices and companies are growing sensitive to the risks of having company assets tied to personal smartphones. With the introduction of these new services from BlackBerry, the needs of both enterprises and their employees will be met with Samsung KNOX devices.”

“Customers tell us that enterprise solutions have to provide flexibility in terms of device choice and mobile deployment models such as BYOD or COPE,” said Billy Ho, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Product and Value Added Solutions, BlackBerry. “Working with Samsung, we’ll be able to provide a great experience for both SecuSUITE and WorkLife on Samsung’s KNOX-enabled devices. With these great choices, companies won’t need to choose between security and compliance on one hand and employee choice and productivity on the other. With these easy-to-deploy services, they will have both.”

Key customer benefits of WorkLife by BlackBerry

  • An option to give employees a company-owned work phone number on employee-owned devices that can be retained and reused when the employee leaves the company. Employees can quickly and easily switch between personal and company phone numbers for both voice and SMS communications.

  • The ability to add a personal line to corporately owned, personally-enabled (COPE) devices, allowing employees to carry one device for both work and personal use.

  • A split-billing solution that works when roaming, separating work and personal use even if the user is travelling in different countries.

  • The option to add a work line to an employee device using a simple management console, regardless of their mobile device management (MDM) provider.

  • Easy deployment by enabling companies to continue working with their carrier as traffic does not need to be routed through a different proxy server.

Key customer benefits of SecuSUITE

  • State-of-the art hardware based encryption technology that provides virtually tap-proof mobile voice and SMS communications.

  • An anti-eavesdropping solution already successfully used by several governments.

  • Security that is easy and intuitive to use.

“Samsung and BlackBerry are combining their long-standing reputation and experience to develop compelling solutions that meet unique industry challenges. The amount of sensitive corporate information transferred via voice as opposed to email/data is very large, and subject to relatively easy interception,” explains Jack Gold, Founder and Principal Analyst of J.Gold Associates, LLC. “So the need to include enhanced encryption/security of voice communications is becoming mission critical. Further, as more regulations come about to separate accounting of personal and corporate use of devices, the ability to offer multiple SIM and/or split billing is moving from a ‘nice to have’ to a critical requirement for most companies.”

Pricing and Availability

WorkLife by BlackBerry will be available on all Samsung KNOX-enabled devices and will be activated through carrier partners. BlackBerry and Samsung are working with carriers worldwide to enable the service and expect the service to launch later in 2015. Pricing and availability will be announced on a carrier-by-carrier basis. Enterprises can sign up here to be notified of availability.

SecuSUITE for Samsung KNOX will be available in the fall 2015. Pricing details will be announced at availability.

Samsung Business Services will launch later in 2015. Customers will be able to get BES12, including deployment and technical support, directly from Samsung. Other BlackBerry value added services will be added in the future.

20 countries to be part of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge’s April 10 launch

As part of the official announcement of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung revealed that the two devices would go on sale globally on April 10th. If you thought that meant that Samsung would go for the huge worldwide rollout as the Galaxy Note 3 from 2013, then you might be disappointed to hear that only 20 countries will be part of the first day of launch.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed which nations will be part of the initial rollout, nor has it said if the Galaxy S6 Edge will also be launched in 20 countries on the first day. But the UNPACKED event is still going on, so we’re sure we will get all those details in due time. In the meantime, don’t forget to check out our hands-on experience with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge pricing to start at €699 and €849

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were officially announced at Samsung’s UNPACKED event at MWC today. As always, while the company spoke a lot about the devices’ features, it left out information on their pricing. We’ve heard rumors of the prices for the two handsets in the past, and now we have the official price tags right from Samsung officials here at MWC.

The Galaxy S6 will be priced at €699 for the 32GB variant, €799 for the 64GB version, and €899 for the top-end 128GB model. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S6 Edge will cost €150 more than the standard Galaxy S6 for the 32, 64 and 128GB models – €849, €949, and €1049. Those are steep price tags for sure, but given the revolution these two devices bring to Samsung’s smartphone lineup and the hardware that’s on offer (especially on the S6 Edge), we can’t say we are too surprised that buying them won’t be an affordable affair.

It remains to be seen how the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be priced in the US and other parts of the world, though we are sure the details will crop up in the days leading up to the April 10 global launch of the two handsets. Don’t forget to check out SamMobile’s experience with the Galaxy S6 and its curvier sibling, and keep checking back for all the important titbits about Samsung’s latest flagships.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge officially announced

The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge are finally official, after months of excitement and hype that has probably not preceded any of Samsung’s flagship before. With its smartphone sales and profits having taken a dive in the last year or so, Samsung needed its newest flagships to be absolute stunners, and that’s exactly what the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge are.

The design of the two smartphones is what is most striking, with Samsung going for a metal and glass build that is made “for capturing light.” Indeed, in our hands-on of the two devices, we were mighty impressed with the look and feel, with the glass on the back reflecting light in a beautiful way. The back isn’t made of standard glass – it’s a 2-tone mould with a new material and finishing that you won’t find on any other smartphones using glass at the rear. Oh, and it’s made of Gorilla Glass 4, so it won’t be too easy to break, either.

The Galaxy S6 Edge in particular is amazing to look at, especially the Green Emerald version, which is our favorite. The standard Galaxy S6, however, looks rather similar to what has come before, but the metallic sides and the glass back give it a feel that is sure to dazzle consumers around the world. Samsung has never been too popular for its smartphone design skills, but with the S6 and S6 Edge, the Korean manufacturer has proven that it can make smartphones that are classy, well-built, and amazing to look at. These two phones are pretty thin too, thanks to their 6.8 mm/7.0 mm (Edge) profiles.

Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge come with 5.1-inch Super AMOLED displays with Quad HD (2560×1440) resolution that can go super bright. The Galaxy S6 Edge’s display curves to both the left and right, and Samsung has built in some intuitive features, like a notification LED that glows on the side displays when a call comes in, or the option to access details of a missed call of message by swiping in from the edge. The Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4 had stunning displays, and that trend is only continuing on the latest flagships from Samsung.

Imaging is an area that Samsung has focused on with the S6 and S6 Edge. Both devices feature a 16-megapixel back camera that Samsung is touting as the brightest yet. The f1.9 lenses (the S5 had an f2.2 lens) have Smart Optical Image Stabilization, Real-Time HDR mode and other features for taking great photos, though we will need to go hands-on with the camera to see how well this translates into real-life performance (especially in low-light). The front cameras are 5-megapixel units; the camera can be launched quickly by double-tapping the home button, something Samsung says will allow users to start taking photos in just 0.7 seconds.

Under the hood, the S6 and S6 Edge are powered by the Exynos 7420 processor, which has eight cores and full support for 64-bit processing (there’s no Snapdragon variant, as expected). There’s 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and internal storage is fixed at 32, 64 or 128GB. The lack of a microSD card is disappointing, but Samsung is offsetting that with the use of UFS 2.0 flash technology, which should make for fast storage speeds and overall device performance. Users also get 115GB of OneDrive storage for two years from Microsoft – that’s right, OneDrive and other Microsoft apps will come preloaded on the devices, as we had exclusively reported earlier this year.

Wireless charging is also an important feature on the Galaxy S6 duo, with the two devices supporting any wireless charging pad with support for Qi and PowerMat standards. The 2,550 mAh and 2,600 mAh batteries on the S6 and S6 Edge seem pretty small, but the efficient processor ticking away inside should make up for the smaller capacities, and so should support for fast charging that can offer up to 4 hours of usage times after only 10 minutes of charging (that’s two hours of HD video playback, according to Samsung).

SAMSUNG CSC

Then there’s the software. After years of offering a bloated and rather jank-filled user experience, Samsung has toned down a lot of aspects of its software. You get Android 5.0.2 out of the box, and rumors of Samsung optimizing things were rather true – in our testing, the two phones were extremely fast, with smooth animations all around and apps launching extremely quickly. You get all the standard features that we’ve seen on Samsung flagships in the last year – Ultra Power Saving Mode, Download Booster, Private Mode, S Health and more are on-board, suggesting Samsung hasn’t paired back on features as much as it has on the number of pre-installed apps that come with the devices.

After a couple of years of playing it safe, Samsung moved outside of its comfort zone with devices like the Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4, and the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge take things up a couple of notches. Brilliant design, amazing hardware, and software that’s fast and beautiful to look at – it’s all here, and it’s a sign of a Samsung that’s bolder, more courageous, and willing to experiment and work on its strengths and improve its weaknesses.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will launch globally on April 10. White Pearl, Black Sapphire, and Gold Platinum will be common color options, while Blue Topaz and Green Emerald will be exclusive to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge respectively. Don’t forget to check out our hands-on experience that will soon go live, and do let us know what you think about Samsung’s latest (and possibly greatest) flagships.

Samsung announces Samsung Pay to make payments on-the-go easier for you

As rumored earlier, Samsung did indeed have a payments service ‘Samsung Pay’ in the works. The service was officially announced today at the ongoing event, alongside Samsung’s Galaxy S6 series. Essentially, with Samsung Pay, the company wants to make payments easier for its users. This, the company aims to establish by using the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge’s NFC radios along with what the company calls MST – Magnetic Secure Transmission. The unique selling point of the service according to Samsung is the fact that users will be able to use the payments service with existing merchants, without the latter having to invest in additional hardware, as has been the case with other mobile wallet systems.

Samsung has roped in two of the biggest payment networks in MasterCard and Visa for Samsung Pay. Additionally, the company is also looking at a few other companies as potential partners, including American Express, Citi, etc. “The secure and simple payment process, coupled with our robust partner network, makes Samsung Pay a truly game-changing service that will bring value to consumers and our partners in the ecosystem,” added JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung.

The company also adds that its KNOX security system, in conjunction with ARM TrustZone, will work to protect your information and attempt to protect you from fraud attempts. From what we’re hearing the service will go live only in summer of 2015, which is when Samsung perhaps expects the Galaxy S6 and the Edge to be at their best when it comes popularity and sales.
