The Galaxy A52 5G will bring a substantial battery upgrade

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A52 5G won’t have faster charging speeds but at least the battery itself will have a substantially larger capacity compared to last year’s model. The Galaxy A52 is rumored to be planned for release in 4G and 5G variants, but at least as far as the Galaxy A52 5G is concerned, it will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery which represents a 500mAh increase over the 2020 predecessor.

This information comes from China’s regulatory agency TENAA through an application that was filed by Samsung last month and brought recently to light by @_the_tech_guy. The attached photos corroborate the Galaxy A52 5G’s leaked design, but more important are the other bits of information written in text, revealing the smartphone’s battery capacity for the first time and confirming its dual-SIM capabilities, the 6.46-inch display and the 159.9 x 75.1 x 8.4 footprint.

Android 11 will be available out of the box, the listing confirms, or rather reconfirms. This detail was disclosed by a couple other regulatory agencies — Bluetooth SIG and the Wi-Fi Alliance — along with a few other connectivity-related specifications.

Samsung is seemingly preparing to bring the Galaxy A52 5G to the market soon, and it’s probably one of the more exciting Galaxy A models of the year given the popularity of the Galaxy A51 before it. As for the Galaxy A52 4G, battery details are missing but hopefully it will bring the same larger capacity as the 5G model.

Official Introduction Film by Samsung tells everything about One UI 3

Samsung has just released an almost 4-minute-long Official Introduction Film on One UI 3. As you all know, One UI 3 is not entirely new but the Galaxy S21 series’ arrival has marked the release of One UI version 3.1, so the company is now highlighting some of the best One UI 3 features in a new video that inevitably doubles as an ad for the Galaxy S21 and other Galaxy devices running Android 11.

Samsung’s top priorities with One UI 3 were comfort and efficiently, leading to refinements, new UI elements, and richer animations, the latter of which accentuate the new 120Hz high refresh rate displays even further.

One UI 3 brings about a ton of visual changes, from a new lock screen to redesigned apps, and with its latest introduction video Samsung is making it a lot easier for customers and people who have never experienced One UI to get a sense of what its proprietary skin for Android 11 is all about.

Which Galaxy devices have access to Android 11 and One UI 3?

There are obviously not many Galaxy devices that ship with Android 11 out of the box but the list of phones and tablets that were released running older versions and got updated to Android 11 / One UI 3 keeps getting longer.

Samsung has already released One UI 3 for older flagships like the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy Note 10 series, and it even brought the update to more budget-oriented phones including the Galaxy M21 and the Galaxy M31.

Is your phone running One UI 3 yet? How would you describe your experience with One UI 3 so far, and what do you think Samsung’s next priority for developing One UI should be?

Samsung is back in Fortune’s list of top 50 most admired companies

Samsung Electronics has finally made it back to Fortune’s list of the World’s Most Admired Companies after a few years of absence. As of February 1, 2021, Samsung Electronics has an All-Star Rank of 49 on Fortune’s list, having been recognized for excelling in various areas of operation.

Samsung Electronics was ranked 49th with an overall score of 7.56, up 0.6 points from last year. The company was awarded 1st place in areas including Innovation, Quality of Management, Long-Term Investment Value, Quality of Products/Services, and Global Competitiveness. Samsung Electronics ranked 2nd in People Management, Use of Corporate Assets, Social Responsibility, and Financial Soundness.

Samsung is making a comeback after years of absence

It was all the way back in 2005 when Samsung Electronics was named one of the World’s Most Admired Companies by Fortune for the first time. It ranked 39th and the company kept climbing up Fortune’s ladder in the years to come, achieving 21st place in 2014.

Samsung Electronics has then failed to make it on Fortune’s list and the losing streak’s been going on since 2017 due to several reasons, but mainly because of the legal disputes surrounding Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong at that time, as well as the unsuccessful launch of the Galaxy Note 7.  Needless to say, Samsung was getting in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

That’s no longer the case and perhaps Samsung will manage to stick around for longer this time, or even close the gap between it and companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Alphabet, all of which have made it in Fortune’s top 10.

Galaxy S20 FE joins the February 2021 security update gang

The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition has already boarded the February 2021 security update train, having just started receiving the latest OTA patch from Samsung. Identified by release version G780FXXS2BUA5, the new firmware appeared just as Samsung published its monthly security bulletin detailing the contents of the said Android installation targeting the entirety of its modern mobile portfolio.

Compared to recent months, the patch level dated February 1st, 2021, places a much larger emphasis on tackling some man-in-the-middle attack vulnerabilities that Google’s OS accumulated in recent times.

How quickly is this rollout progressing?

The final Galaxy flagship of 2020 is still among the earliest devices that joined the ongoing deployment. Over the last handful of days, Samsung already started pushing out the same firmware upgrade to the two Galaxy Note 20 models, the Galaxy S20 range, and a three-year-old budget device (with some exemplary name recognition, to be frank).

Galaxy S20 FE owners eager to get their hands on the February 2021 security update can try speeding things up by manually checking whether the download is available before their devices identify it on their own. Doing so is as straightforward as opening the Settings app, tapping the Software update option near the bottom of its main menu, and then using the Download and install instruction. Assuming, naturally, that the penultimate step doesn’t already leave them with a confirmation that a new OTA package is ready for download.

Meanwhile, the most dedicated and experienced Galaxy S20 FE owners out there can also independently flash the new software onto their flagships. Our firmware archives already have a handful of complete system images containing the February 2021 security patch for the Galaxy S20 FE. Granted, that very fact already suggests the rest of the deployment will conclude in a timely manner.

Samsung monthly updates: February 2021 patch tackles MITM attacks

Samsung today published the complete changelog detailing the February 2021 security update which just started rolling out to the company’s Android smartphones earlier within the last few days. While last month’s security bulletin had a bit of everything, its follow-up appears to be largely oriented toward tackling various man-in-the-middle attacks.

The good news is that none of the newly resolved device hijacking vulnerabilities were rated as critical security flaws. Meaning Samsung doesn’t believe the said attack vectors were easy to exploit, so we can pretty safely rule out the likelihood that they’ve enabled any large-scale shenanigans.

Which Galaxy smartphones are already receiving the February 2021 security update?

But between descriptions of wireless carrier impersonation and even a hijacking vulnerability in its very own email appSamsung’s latest security bulletin makes for a pretty curious read. If nothing else, it’s an effective reminder of how suspenseful the world of cybersecurity can be, with malicious hackers never lagging too far behind researchers.

Curiously, the only vulnerability with a “High” severity classification that Samsung fixed in this release without Google’s input sounds pretty tame compared to MITM hacks. And yet this issue, manifesting itself in the form of a wallpaper service bug, enables local denial-of-service attacks with quite devastating consequences.

The newly released Galaxy S20 series is unsurprisingly a deployment priority for Samsung as all three of the company’s newest flagships have already started receiving the new patch over the weekend, i.e., back in January. The Galaxy Note 20 line followed suit less than 24 hours ago, as did the more modest Galaxy A8 (2018).

Galaxy A52 5G release seems imminent as leaks grow colorful

We’ve been keeping an eye out for the Galaxy A52 5G for quite a while now, and it appears our watch is finally about to end. First of all, known industry insider Evan Blass, better known by his online handle @evleaks, just shared a handful of new renders depicting Samsung’s upcoming mid-ranger.

The said imagery seems to be destined for the Galaxy A52 landing pages that Samsung likely has ready to go. It also features the entire color spectrum that the upcoming smartphone family will encompass.

Could this be the best-value 5G smartphone of 2021?

Granted, we’ve already seen more than one Galaxy A52 5G color even before today’s leak. What remains to be seen, however, is whether all four variants of the device will be available globally. As for their names, you’re looking at the Galaxy A52 5G in Awesome Violet, Awesome Blue, Awesome White, and Awesome Black.

On top of that, several Galaxy A52 5G models have received their product certification from Bluetooth SIG late last week. As that isn’t the first regulatory approval Samsung secured for this device, the company’s likely to finally make it official before the end of the month.

The international variant of the Galaxy A52 5G will carry the SM-A526B designation and purportedly offer some highly respectable specs. Especially given its likely modest price tag that’s expected to be in the $300-$400 range, depending on the market. Not to mention that Samsung is also planning to release an LTE-only version of the Galaxy A52, so we’re likely already looking at one of the best-value Android smartphones of the year.
