Our free forums have now been closed due to these factors

The official SamMobile forums have long been a thriving community that brought together Samsung users and fans. Countless people from across the globe have relied on them to learn more about their Samsung products and seek assistance when required.

As the majority of our users have transitioned over to the premium forums, there’s been a spike in spam on the free forums. So we’ve decided to shut them down until further notice in order to clean them up.

Our forums for SamMobile premium members remain unaffected. We’ve also working on exciting new initiatives that will benefit both our regular and premium members, so stay tuned. The best is yet to come!

WhatsApp beta screenshots reveals more details about message reactions

WhatsApp may soon allow you to react to messages using emojis. The feature was first found a couple of months ago in beta builds, and new screenshots along with more information pertaining to its functionality were dug out recently by WABetaInfo.

Message reactions won’t be anonymous. Any chat or group chat participants will have the ability to view a panel listing all emoji reactions and their specific senders. Assuming, of course, that the feature will be unchanged before it reaches the public — if that. Some features don’t make it out of beta, but WhatsApp appears to have been working on message reactions for at least a couple of months.

As of now, only six emojis are supported

In the recent WhatsApp beta build, users are limited to only one reaction per message. As for the number of emojis available for message reactions, there are only six, as seen in the screenshot below. More emojis could be added later in the beta testing process or by the time the feature goes live.

The screenshots demonstrating WhatsApp message reactions were captured on iOS, but the source notes that developers are also working on a version for Android OS; Samsung smartphone and tablet running One UI included. There’s no timeframe attached to this WhatsApp beta feature, but it’s not the only one in development, and Communities may also be coming to the app soon.

Experiencing echo in Google Meet on the Galaxy Tab A7? Try this workaround

Multiple Galaxy Tab A7 users are shedding light on an issue related to the Google Meet app, wherein the sound quality drops during video calls due to echoing. The problem appears to minimize when using headphones with a built-in mic, though it nonetheless persists. Thankfully, this bizarre issue seems to be related to the app itself and not Samsung’s tablet — at least for the most part.

Clearing the app’s cache doesn’t help, but according to a support thread on the Google Meet help boards, the problem appears to be related to the Classroom app. Joining a meet through the Meet app rather than the Classroom app seems to solve the echoing issue. If you’re experiencing this problem with your Galaxy Tab A7 and you’re using Classroom, try copying the link code for the meet you wish to join and use it inside the Google Meet app instead.

If the problem persists, you may want to visit a Samsung repair center

Avoiding the Classroom app seems to do away with echoing in Google Meet for Galaxy Tab A7 owners, at least, for the most part. One user claims they’ve fixed the issue only after visiting a Samsung repair center, though the post doesn’t go into detail as to what may have been wrong with the tablet. This could be an isolated case, but if you experiencing echoing in Google Meet and nothing else helps, perhaps consider bringing your Galaxy Tab A7 to a Samsung repair center for a check.

Many Galaxy Tab A7 users claim that the echoing issue was caused by a recent firmware update, which means it could be fixed over the air. We’ll keep you up to speed, and remember that we offer Samsung firmware downloads on our website for free, so keep an eye out for future Galaxy Tab A7 updates.

Galaxy A13 with 4G connectivity may have been pushed into production

Rumors about the Galaxy A13 5G have been floating around for a few months now. It should be Samsung’s cheapest 5G smartphone in 2022, though interestingly enough, the company also appears to be developing a 4G-only variant.

Production of the Galaxy A13 4G is reportedly underway at Samsung’s Greater Noida factory in India. There isn’t much known about hardware specifications, but the recent report claims that the Galaxy A13 4G should have a quad-camera set up on the back panel. The Galaxy A13 5G is supposed to have three sensors, which could mean that the 4G model might feature a macro shooter alongside the rumored 50MP main camera, 5MP ultra-wide sensor, and 2MP depth shooter.

Galaxy A13 4G could ship with Android 11

The Galaxy A13 4G will have a plastic back, and connectivity options will be similar to the 5G model. The phone should have a USB-C connector and a 3.5mm audio port on the lower edge.

Although it will likely be powered by a different chipset than the 5G model, the Galaxy A13 4G should have a similar footprint and a display with a 6.5-inch diagonal and Infinity-V notch. The leaked user manual for the Galaxy A13 5G recently confirmed that the phone is going to ship with Android 11 out of the box, so the 4G model will most likely do the same.

Half of all phones sold in Vietnam in Q3 were made by Samsung

COVID-19 appears to have hit the Vietnamese smartphone market hard in Q3 2021. Smartphone shipments decreased by 28% year-on-year, triggered by restrictions related to coronavirus, lockdowns, and the closure of shops and malls. However, amid all this, Samsung increased its market share in Vietnam to almost half.

Samsung recorded an impressive 49% smartphone market share in Vietnam at the end of Q3 2021. Essentially, half of all the smartphones shipped to Vietnam in the third quarter of the year were manufactured by Samsung, and the company had almost no competition.

The Korean tech giant increased its market share from 36% to 49% over one year. Meanwhile, rivals including Oppo, Xiaomi, and Realme have steadily lost more market share throughout 2021. Oppo had a 19% market share (down from 20%), and Xiaomi’s share dropped from 17% to 13%.

Once again, Samsung’s low-cost Galaxy smartphones play a big role

Similar to other regions in Q3, Samsung found success in Vietnam thanks to its low-cost smartphones and enjoyed high demand for the Galaxy A12, the Galaxy A03s, and the Galaxy A22, according to Counterpoint Research.

Regarding online retail channels, Samsung was the second-largest smartphone vendor in this sector after Xiaomi. Samsung partnered with online retailer Lazada for Super Brand Day, and through its deals and partnerships, the company captured a market share of 33%. Xiaomi led with 36%.

New Galaxy S21 firmware prompts users to update several apps

The Galaxy S21 series was the first to receive Android 12 and One UI 4.0 earlier this month. Samsung is now rolling out another update for the Galaxy S21 series, promising more fixes and stability improvements. The latest firmware also prompts Galaxy S21 owners to update a handful of Samsung apps if they want to continue using them.

We’re nearing the end of November, and a few Galaxy phones have already received the December 2021 security patch. However, the latest Galaxy S21 update is accompanied by the November security release, which means that Samsung should soon follow up with another firmware update aimed at improving security. The December 2021 security patch is already rolling out for a handful of Samsung devices, so it’s only a matter of time before the Galaxy S21 series joins the party.

Circling back to the new update, users can identify it by firmware version G99xBXXU3BUKG. The changelog states that once users apply the new firmware, they’ll also have to update several Samsung apps, including SmartThings, Samsung Members, Smart Switch, Samsung Internet, and Calculator.

Samsung is rolling out the new firmware update for the Galaxy S21 series in Germany. It should soon reach additional markets. You can check for the update in your market by launching the Settings app on your phone and navigating to Software update, or you can refer to our firmware database and download the firmware files manually.

WhatsApp is messing up videos on Galaxy S21s running Android 12

Every major Android update, without exception, is followed by a torrent of bugs. This time around Android 12 has a peculiar interaction with WhatsApp that seems to mess with the quality of videos shared via the application. Several users are complaining about green lines showing up on videos shared via WhatsApp. The lines usually manifest themselves at the horizontal or vertical edge of the said video. There doesn’t seem to be any pattern here, and it just appears at random. Refer to the attached video to see the problem in action.

Users have taken to Samsung’s community forums and Reddit to report the bizarre happening. We were able to recreate the problem on one of our in-house Galaxy S21 Ultra units. However, when we tried sending a video from another Galaxy S21 Ultra, it went through fine, indicating that the problem is restricted to a handful of units.

Further complicating the situation is the fact that it isn’t just Samsung users that are at the receiving end. Some Pixel 6 and OnePlus users have also complained about it, indicating that it could be an issue with Android 12 in general. We may have to wait for more users to come forward with their woes before WhatsApp considers it to be a problem and issues a fix.

Until that happens, we’d recommend that you send the video as a document, as that is the only reliable way to retain its integrity. Furthermore, WhatsApp on Android 12 seems to be compressing videos a lot more aggressively. That could probably be the reason why the green lines appear, but we won’t know until WhatsApp investigates the matter further.

The ultra-affordable Galaxy A02s gets even cheaper with this Black Friday deal

The Galaxy A02s is, without doubt, one of the cheapest Samsung-branded smartphones one can buy. The sub-$100 smartphone might not offer much in the way of specs, but it serves as a decent entry-level device for those on a tight budget. Now, a new Black Friday deal lets you save even more money. Do note that the promotion is valid only for the AT&T-bound variant of the Galaxy A02s.

One can buy the Galaxy A02s for $40 at Walmart for $39.88, which is 50% off of its asking price of $80. The promotion is only valid for the variant with 32GB of internal storage. It is available for purchase online and in-store pickup starting on Nov 26, 5 AM local time. You can find out more about the specifics of the promotion at the official Walmart listing for the Galaxy A02s.

To recap, the Galaxy A02s ships with a V-shaped 6.5-inch PLS IPS panel (720 x 1,600 resolution) panel with a refresh rate of 60Hz. An entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC powers the smartphone, along with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. One can expand the latter further via a micro SD card.

At the back, the Galaxy A02s has a 13MP primary camera sensor, coupled with a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. A 5MP module handles selfies and video calls. Lastly, the phone’s 5,000mAh battery supports fast charging at 15W. While this might not be top-of-the-line material, it is practically a steal for $40.
