Samsung’s new monitor is also a Tizen-powered TV, perfect for work-from-home era

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced millions of people to work from home. To adapt to new consumer needs, Samsung has launched a perfect monitor that can double up as a TV so that you can stream your favorite movies, videos, and TV shows when you are done with work. The Samsung Smart Monitor is powered by Tizen, just like the company’s smart TVs.

Samsung has announced the launch of two new monitors: Smart Monitor M5 and Smart Monitor M7. They will be launched in Canada, China, and the US first, and then in additional markets later. The M5 features Full HD resolution and comes in 27-inch and 32-inch variants. The M7 is a 32-inch smart monitor with 4K resolution. Both monitors have a 16:9 aspect ratio, a peak brightness of 250 nits, a 178-degree viewing angle, and HDR10 video playback capability. The smart monitors also feature built-in 10W stereo speakers.

Since both new monitors run the Tizen 5.5 operating system, they can run smart TV apps like Apple TV, Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube. Connectivity features include dual-band Wi-Fi 5, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 4.2, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and at least two USB Typ-A ports. The Smart Monitor M7 even features a USB Type-C port, which can charge connected devices (up to 65W) and carry video signals.

Both M5 and M7 come with a remote controller, making it easier to control the monitor, launch apps, and navigate around the UI. Other features of these new monitors include Bixby for voice commands, screen mirroring, and Remote Access. The monitors also feature the Adaptive Picture Mode (automatically adjust brightness and color temperature) and Eye Saver Mode (to reduce blue color).

The Remote Access feature allows users to wirelessly and remotely access PC contents. They can also run Microsoft’s Office 365 apps without a need for a PC, and allows you to create, edit, and save documents directly in the cloud. Wireless DeX can also be used with compatible Galaxy devices to wirelessly project the screen and access smartphone apps and websites via a full-fledged web browser.

Doesn’t look like Samsung has plans to launch Galaxy Note 21 series

While it is certain that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S21 trio in early January 2021, the company might not have plans to take the beloved Galaxy Note series forward. Going by multiple leaks, reports, and rumors, there might not be a successor to the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Leakster Ice Universe has tweeted claiming that there is currently no information on the development of the Galaxy Note 21 series. Usually, such information surfaces six to eight months prior to the launch. This could possibly mean that Samsung might not launch the Galaxy Note 21 series next year.

Max Weinbach, who leaked the specifications of the Galaxy S21 series yesterday, did not include the Galaxy Note 21 and the Galaxy Note 21 Ultra in the tweet that listed all the flagship Samsung smartphones that are expected next year. He claims that the South Korean tech giant will launch the following flagship smartphones in 2021:

  1. Galaxy S21 FE
  2. Galaxy S21
  3. Galaxy S21+
  4. Galaxy S21 Ultra
  5. Galaxy Z Fold 3
  6. Galaxy Z Flip 3
  7. Galaxy Z Fold FE

The Galaxy S21 Ultra is expected to feature support for the S Pen. Even the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is rumored to bring support for Samsung’s stylus. All of this points towards the possible end of the Galaxy Note series. Putting an end to the Galaxy Note series could mean better things for the S Pen, streamline Samsung’s flagship smartphone lineup, and give the company more time to improve its software.

If you are a proud Galaxy Note series user, do you think Samsung will end its stylus-equipped flagship smartphone lineup? Let us know your thoughts about it in the comments section below.

Galaxy S21 Ultra could feature the best telephoto camera in any smartphone

We are two months away from the Galaxy S21 series launch, but their CAD renders surfaced weeks ago. A few hours ago, all the important Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra specifications were leaked, offering us a look at what improvements we could expect from Samsung next year.

Now, additional details regarding the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s camera have surfaced. According to @UniverseIce, the highest-end Galaxy S21 series smartphone will feature two 10MP telephoto cameras, one with a 3x optical zoom lens and the other with a 10x optical zoom lens. Moreover, the phone could feature the best telephoto camera ever, thanks to its larger sensors and faster autofocus.

Both telephoto cameras on the Galaxy S21 Ultra reportedly use 1/2.8-inch sensors with 1.22µm pixels and dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus. That’s a huge improvement over the 48MP (1/2-inch) sensor with 0.8µm pixels from the Galaxy S20 Ultra because the Galaxy S21 Ultra wouldn’t need to digitally crop from the sensor, resulting in greater details and light sensitivity.

Switching to dual-pixel autofocus for the telephoto cameras would result in faster and more reliable focusing performance. Compared to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the Galaxy S21 Ultra could also capture better portrait images, thanks to the dedicated 3x telephoto camera. If you remember, the Galaxy S20 Ultra uses a digital crop from its 108MP sensor to offer a 2x zoom when you use the portrait mode.

Galaxy S21 Ultra leaked specifications

The Galaxy S21 Ultra will reportedly feature a 6.8-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O LTPO display with QHD+ resolution, up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and a 1Hz – 120Hz variable refresh rate. The phone will also be compatible with S Pen. It is expected to debut with Android 11 and One UI 3.1. The phone features the Exynos 2100 processor (Snapdragon 875 in the US and China).

Samsung has reportedly equipped the Galaxy S21 Ultra with a second-generation 108MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom. It will also feature dual-video recording, 4K/60fps video recording from all the cameras, and 8K/30fps video recording from its primary camera. The phone is also said to feature laser autofocus.

Other specifications of the Galaxy S21 Ultra include 5G, 4G, dual-band Wi-Fi 6E, GPS, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, USB Type-C port, stereo speakers, under-display fingerprint reader, 5,000mAh battery, 25W fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. The phone will reportedly be available in just two colors: Phantom Black and Phantom Silver.
