Express your love for Putin with a custom-made Galaxy S7 featuring his portrait

Russian president Vladimir Putin has made quite a reputation for himself as the undisputed leader of one of the most powerful countries on this planet. It goes without saying that there are many who are devoted followers of this man and perhaps when those people are out to buy a smartphone, they might pick one up that has Putin’s portrait on the back. Lucky for them there’s a company that sells custom-made Galaxy S7 complete with the president’s portrait.

There isn’t any shortage of companies that perform after-market customization on smartphones. We’ve seen countless companies dip smartphones in gold and bling them out with diamonds and what not. Caviar is one such company and it’s selling the Samsung Supremo Putin Rubino for $27,000, this handset has a portrait of the Russian president on the back and is adorned with 190 ruby stones. It’s only going to make three of these handsets so you can rest assured that $27,000 gets you some exclusivity as well.

If you’re not an oligarch but someone with moderate wealth and an affection for Putin, perhaps you might like Caviar’s Samsung Supremo Putin handsets which also feature his portrait and are available for $2,600 in yellow gold and $2,400 in white gold. This isn’t the most subtle of ways to declare your love for Putin, but as they say, different strokes for different folks.

We get it. Samsung to add ads to its Internet-connected TVs in Europe

Samsung released a lot of smart TVs in past few years, and almost all recently released TVs are smart ones. Most of the smart TVs released in the US by the South Korean TV giant are based on the open source Tizen platform. It is now being reported that the company has started showing more ads on its premium TVs in a bid to increase revenue.

According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Samsung added new tile advertisements to the main menu bar of its premium Internet-connected TVs last year in the US to generate more revenue from its “struggling” TV business. Now, the company is also planning to expand the same ad program to Europe in the coming months.

Samsung is the biggest TV maker in the world, and it was recently awarded as the best TV brand in the UK. However, if the company starts showing ads in its premium TVs, it would certainly annoy a lot of users who have invested a good chunk of their money for a premium video experience. What do you think about it?

T-Mobile to launch Pink Gold Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in the Netherlands next month

Last month, Samsung took the wraps off a Pink Gold variant of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in South Korea. Unfortunately, the company failed to provide a launch date for the handsets. It simply branded them as “coming soon”. However, independent technology blog GSMinfo.nl has today published a report claiming that T-Mobile will start selling the devices in the Netherlands on Thursday, June 23.

Aside from being anodized in a new hue, the Pink Gold models of Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge pack identical internals to their standard Gold, Silver, Black and White counterparts, meaning they will both continue to sport a Snapdragon 820/Exynos 8890 Octa CPU, an Adreno 530/Mali-T880 MP12 GPU, 4GB of RAM, a 12MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP selfie shooter.

At this precise moment in time, it’s unclear whether the Pink Gold variants of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will be sold exclusively through T-Mobile in the region, but we expect them to be available through a handful of different operators and third-party retailers seeing as this is intended to be more of a general release and not a limited one.

Samsung allegedly withdraws from the camera market in Australia

Back in November, Samsung revealed that it had to close down its digital camera division in Germany due to a lack of sales, then one month later it withdrew from the industry in the United Kingdom. However, despite pulling the plug in two main regions, sales still looked to be up in Australia. Up until now, that is. Earlier today, an independent retailer in the region published a statement claiming the South Korean company will not be sending any more inventory to the country and that it informed bricks-and-mortar stores to concentrate on selling old stock.

This doesn’t mean that the firm won’t be bringing its first 360-degree camera to the Australia, though. The Gear 360 will still launch according to schedule later this year in a handful of the region’s largest standalone retailers where it will carry a price tag of around AU$350-400. The device is also expected to be stocked in Samsung’s Experience Stores in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney where representatives will offer customers the opportunity to have some hands-on time with the device before they purchase it.

It’s worth noting, however, that the authenticity of this claim can’t be verified at this time, so we’ll have to take this revelation with a considerable pinch of salt until we have more information on the matter. It does seem fairly likely, though, seeing as the manufacturer has been struggling with sales of its NX1 DSLR camera for some time now, which was at one time its best selling shooter.

Samsung’s offering Galaxy owners in India 20% off their next Domino’s order when they install a software update

Many smartphone owners are hesitant to install the latest updates on their handsets. Unfortunately, it’s unclear what the cause for this unexplainable firmware upgrade anxiety is, but Samsung hopes to cure it starting in India by offering customers 20% off their next Domino’s order when they install an update on their device. So far, the promotion has been spotted by one Galaxy J7 user in the region who reported seeing a coupon in the My Galaxy application when they installed a Security Maintenance Release (SMR) on their phone.

It’s unclear if Samsung is planning to bring this upgrade incentive to other regions. However, we presume that it will remain exclusive to developing markets where smartphones have smaller amounts of storage and users have a more restricted amount of data, so it will, therefore, encourage them to install even the most minor non-user facing updates, such as bug fixes, stability improvements, and monthly security patches. If owners are struggling to install the latest firmware, the coupon reveals that they can head over to their local Samsung Experience Store where a representative will be available to help them.

Samsung’s fortunes in Q2 will be aided by semiconductors and the Galaxy S7

Samsung’s earnings in the second quarter of this year are expected to be helped by strong sales of the Galaxy S7 flagship as well as increased demand for the company’s semiconductors. Market analysts are of the view that Samsung is going to report second quarter profits above expectations due to lower smartphone inventory, improvements to its flash memory chip business as well as the stellar performance of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge.

Korean brokerage Shinhan Investment expects Samsung to bring in operating profits of 7 trillion won. If it does breach this level it will be the first time in nine months, Samsung last reported 7.39 trillion won in the third quarter of 2015. Samsung’s mobile business is expected to post a 12.4 percent year-over-year increase in operating profits primarily helped by the flagship duo. Most brokerages in Korea appear to agree that Samsung is going to have a solid second quarter, raising their guidance for profits from 5 trillion won to as much as 7.19 trillion won.

Samsung updates Game Tools and Game Launcher

Samsung has released an update to Game Tools and Game Launcher for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The new update (version 0.0.26) brings Help section in both the tools and the latest version of Game Tools allows recording of gameplay videos up to 4GB in file size.

The floating key of Game Tools can now be hidden even while recording the gameplay, and more apps will now be blocked from showing notifications when the “no alert mode” is enabled.

Samsung introduced Game Tools and Game Launcher with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge as the company wanted to provide avid mobile gamers with an inbuilt tool to customize graphics settings and resolution as well as an easier way to record gameplays and share them with friends.

Samsung wins “best TV brand of the year” award in the UK

UK consumer choice magazine Which? has labelled Samsung’s television lineup as the “best TV brand of the year”. The publication managed to obtain all of the firm’s thirty-eight products and pit them against the competition in a series of rigorous in-house tests. The results were so impressive that the company was put at the top of the list of “Best Buy” products, which  is essentially a catalogue consisting of all the leading electronics brands.

Samsung also received the prestigious 10th Anniversary Award, which is given to the manufacturer with the most number of Brand-of-the-Year awards over the past ten years, for the seventh year running. Sung Il-kyung of Samsung Display was very happy with the result and went on to say: “Samsung TVs have been rated on top by many prestigious European magazines and other media outlets. The company will maintain its lead in the European TV market with its top-notch TV products.”

[Poll] Is Samsung slow with rolling out Samsung Pay to other countries?

Earlier this year Samsung confirmed that it’s going to expand Samsung Pay to seven new countries in 2016. The list of countries includes Australia, Canada, Brazil, Singapore, Spain and the United Kingdom, Samsung Pay has already gone live in China. The company has been gradually rolling out this service and some believe it’s not doing that as rapidly as it should be. What are your views on the matter, should Samsung be racing to cover as many markets as possible? The mobile payments space is already crowded and it would do well for Samsung to carve a niche out for itself sooner rather than later. Do you agree or disagree? Vote below and let us know what you think in the comments section.

Samsung teams up with Citibank for Samsung Pay in Singapore

It was only two weeks ago that Samsung launched a pre-registration page for customers in Singapore, enabling them to sign up for an opportunity to test Samsung Pay before it goes live in the country. The company today announced its partnership with Citibank Singapore Limited for Samsung Pay. This partnership will enable Citibank credit cardholders to make payments on the go using their compatible Samsung handsets.

“The partnership with Citibank, alongside our ecosystem of partners across payment networks, banks, retailers and merchants, assures customers that they will be able to enjoy the full benefits of using Samsung Pay almost anywhere in Singapore,” said Eugene Goh, Vice President, IT & Mobile, Samsung Electronics Singapore.

Those who have registered to be a part of the beta test will be among the first to preview Samsung Pay in Singapore ahead of its launch in Q2 2016. Samsung says that thousands have signed up for this opportunity and now that registration has been closed, it’s going to progressively notify those who have been selected for the Samsung Pay Beta Test Program. Samsung Pay compatible handsets for customers in Singapore include the Galaxy Note 5 4G+, the S6 edge+ 4G+, the Galaxy S7 4G+ and the S7 edge 4G+.

Global model of the Galaxy A9 Pro receives Wi-Fi certification

We recently spoke about the international variant of the Galaxy A9 Pro (A910F) hitting the markets soon. Back then, we encountered an import listing on Indian site Zauba, which has usually been accurate about device launches. A new revelation has now almost confirmed the arrival of this global Galaxy A9 Pro model with the device officially receiving Wi-Fi certification.

The Wi-Fi Alliance certification indicates that a launch is very near. It’s important to note that both the single-SIM and dual-SIM models of the smartphone have been certified by the authorities, which is suggestive of the fact that both models will be available at launch. Unfortunately, the certification doesn’t tell us when or which markets will get the handsets first but you can expect more information to follow in the days to come.

The Galaxy A9 Pro packs a 6-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (expandable), the octa-core Snapdragon 652 chipset, a 16-megapixel f/1.9 rear camera, an 8-megapixel f/1.9 front-facing sensor, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and a 5,000 mAh battery.
