Samsung Galaxy S7 edge’s screen seems to suffer with palm rejection issues

The Galaxy S7 edge is arguably the most beautiful smartphone in the world, and it is the curved display that enhances the smartphone’s beauty. However, it can sometimes cause issues while using the device due to the curved nature of the display. The bezel around the display is far too thin to hold the device properly without your palm or fingers touching the curved part of the screen.

Apparently, some users are facing issues with the display on the Galaxy S7 edge causing unintentional touches, especially while using the onscreen keyboard and the camera app. This might be due to improper functioning of the palm/finger rejection mechanism. Without proper palm rejection, the shutter button in the camera app might not register a touch. It might also cause problems when you are typing using the onscreen keyboard.

This problem might or might not affect you depending on how you are holding the device. Samsung has released an “urgent software update” for the Edge screen. However, some users who received the update are still affected by the issue, so we are not sure whether the update was to fix the palm rejection or simply to add more features to the Edge screen.

If “you are holding it wrong“, the situation can get extremely frustrating due to accidental touches or app launches. Samsung should fix this issue before the ‘edge-gate’ issue becomes widespread. Are you experiencing a similar problem while using your Galaxy S7 edge? Let us know your thoughts about it in the comments section below.

Registration for the Gear Manager beta program for Samsung Z3 now open

Samsung is now accepting registrations for its Gear Manager beta program for the Tizen-powered Samsung Z3 smartphone. It’s an important app in the Samsung ecosystem as it enables the Gear S2 smartwatch to work with Samsung’s Tizen handset. Throughout the beta program users will be able to provide valuable feedback to the company which will go a long way in improving this important app.

The new Gear Manager app for Tizen has been through a complete rewrite since it was first shown off at the Tizen Developer Conference 2014 and the Tizen Developer Summit 2014. Those who are interested in taking part in this beta will obviously need the Samsung Z3 running the latest software version. They will also need to register and be a member of the Tizen Forum Community. Information about the procedure to download the Gear Manager app, features supported and other relevant details will be provided once the app is ready for download.

Official images of the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) now available

Following the release of the Galaxy J5 (2016), Samsung was believed to be working on a larger Galaxy J7 model. This handset was expected to carry the same metal chassis and design that we saw on the Galaxy J5 but in a slightly bigger form factor. The handset even made its way to the FCC, so its arrival was not exactly a secret. Today, the China Mobile variant of the Galaxy J7 (2016) has leaked out in all its glory, revealing a familiar design and some carrier branding as well.

The Galaxy J7 (2016) is said to be packing a 5.5-inch 720p display, a 1.7 GHz octa-core Exynos 7870 (Cortex-A53 cores), 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable), a 13-megapixel camera on the back, a 5-megapixel front camera, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and a 3,300 mAh battery underneath.

It is possible that the Galaxy J7 will be limited to China initially, but knowing Samsung, the handset should also make its way to other Asian markets as well as Europe. The 2016 Galaxy J7 is expected to be priced somewhere under €300 ($338), which is pretty steep for a mid-range offering such as this one.
