Galaxy A52s 5G is coming to India soon, price leaked already

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A52s 5G a few days ago, and the smartphone has been launched in Europe and the UK. Earlier this week, it was revealed that the company also has plans to launch it in India. The South Korean firm has now started teasing the Galaxy A52s 5G launch in the country.

The company started teasing the launch of the Galaxy A52s 5G in India through Twitter. Samsung India has also set up a webpage where interested customers can register themselves to get more updates about the upcoming smartphone. The company has also started sending marketing material related to the Galaxy A52s 5G to various retailers across India.

Tipster Abhishek Yadav claims that the 6GB+128GB variant of the Galaxy A52s 5G will be priced at INR 35,999 (around $485), while the 8GB+128GB version will cost INR 37,499 (around $505). The company will most probably offer a cashback offer during the pre-order period.

Except for the processor, the Galaxy A52s 5G has the same specifications as the Galaxy A52 5G. It has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and 800 nits peak brightness. The smartphone runs Android 11-based One UI 3.1 out of the box and comes equipped with the Snapdragon 778G processor, 6GB/8GB RAM, and 128GB/256GB internal storage.

It has a 32MP selfie camera at the front and a 64MP+12MP+5MP+5MP quad-camera at the rear. The 64MP camera sensor is equipped with PDAF and OIS, and it can record 4K 30fps videos. The front-facing camera can record 4K 30fps videos as well.

The Galaxy A52s 5G has stereo speakers and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. It has an SD card, 5G connectivity, dual-SIM card slot, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A 4,500mAh battery powers the smartphone, and it is compatible with 25W fast charging. However, it comes bundled with a 15W charger.

Samsung’s August 2021 security update reaches the Galaxy A51

After releasing the August 2021 security update to the Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, Galaxy A30s, Galaxy A31, Galaxy A32 5G, and various our high-end smartphones, Samsung has started rolling out the update to the Galaxy A51.

Samsung has started rolling out the new software update with firmware version A515FXXU5EUG7 to the Galaxy A51 in Brazil. The update is available on Claro, TIM, and Vivo networks in the country. More markets are expected to get this update over the next few days. The new update includes the August 2021 security patch that fixes 40 vulnerabilities related to privacy and security. It could also bring bug fixes and device stability improvements.

If you are a Galaxy A51 user in Brazil, you can download the new software update right away by navigating to Settings » Software update on your smartphone and clicking on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually if you have a Windows computer.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A51 last year, and it was a huge success. The smartphone was launched with Android 10-based One UI 2 out of the box. It received the Android 11-based One UI 3 update earlier this year and the One UI 3.1 update shortly after.

Galaxy Z Flip 3’s charging spec feels like a joke for a high-end phone in 2021

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is a more important foldable phone than the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It’s not nearly as packed to the gills with amazing features, but it’s the one that finally makes foldables accessible, thanks to a price tag that seemed unimaginable just a year ago.

There’s plenty to like on the Z Flip 3. The stylish and elegant flip phone design that gives you a large 6.7-inch display that folds into half to fit into the tightest of spaces, water resistant build, excellent flagship performance, and Samsung’s excellent One UI software make the Z Flip 3 a stellar package for $999.

But the Z Flip 3 is not perfect. Its cameras aren’t the greatest (though they are considerably better than those on the original Z Flip), and battery life is strictly average. And while it’s understandable that Samsung couldn’t fit a big battery in such a compact design, what I can’t just excuse is the excruciatingly slow charging speeds that accompany that tiny-by-modern-smartphone-standards battery.

15W stopped being fast a while back, even for a teeny 3,300 mAh battery

15W charging stopped being “fast” a couple of years ago, and Samsung knows this. That’s why all of its regular candy bar flagships and so many of its mid-range phones now come with 25W super fast charging. Many of its affordable offerings still use 15W charging because of price constraints, but when you’re paying $150 for a smartphone, it doesn’t really stick out like a sore thumb.

On the Z Flip 3, though, it feels like a joke. Nowadays, most phones that cost $300 or more and have not-so-great battery life at least give you the option to get back on track with a quick charge after the battery runs out or gets low. Not so with the Z Flip 3. It gives you the double whammy: A battery that drains fast, and charging that’s atrociously slow to be acceptable on a high-end phone in 2021.

And it’s a shame, really, because it puts a blemish on what is otherwise a pretty awesome user experience. Samsung is probably still going to sell a lot of these (pre-order figures suggest there’s huge demand), but the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s outdated charging specification means I won’t be one of the consumers picking it up.

Galaxy A52s early buyers in France get a free Google Nest Audio speaker

The Galaxy A52s will be going on sale in France even sooner than in the UK. Today, the company announced that the Galaxy A52s will be available in France from September 1 — two days ahead of the UK market. Furthermore, Samsung is giving early Galaxy A52s buyers in France a Google Nest Audio smart speaker.

The Galaxy A52s will be available in France in all four color options: black, white, mint, and lavender, all of which are labeled “Awesome.” Buyers will also receive two months of YouTube Premium access for free and a 3-month subscription to Spotify Premium. Services like Samsung Pay and Samsung TV Plus for mobile will be available from day one.

Samsung is pairing the Galaxy A52s with a Nest Audio smart speaker

Samsung France hasn’t revealed the exact launch price for the Galaxy A52s, but pricing for continental Europe was confirmed yesterday, and the Galaxy A52s 5G with 128GB/256GB of storage will cost €449 and €509, respectively.

Meanwhile, early Galaxy A52s adopters in France who purchase the smartphone before October 15 will receive a Nest Audio smart speaker for free. These speakers usually cost around $99, so it’s not a bad value proposition for customers who might want to enjoy multimedia content on something other than the onboard stereo speakers that come with the Galaxy A52s.

Samsung to churn out more than 4 million Z3 foldable phones this year

We’ve been hearing a lot lately about the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 breaking pre-order records. Samsung’s production figures seem to be further confirming the success of the new foldable phones, both of which have been pre-ordered in massive numbers.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 have reached record production volumes in July and August, topping roughly 1.5 million units combined. According to market research firm DSCC, Samsung should exceed a foldable phone production capacity of 1 million units per month for the next four months, boosting the company’s on-year production volume by around 251%.

Compared to a year ago when the combined production capacity of the 2020 foldable phones was sitting below the 500,000 mark, the Galaxy Z3 series seems to be putting Samsung on the map in the foldable category like never before. The addition of a digitizer and S Pen for the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and the upgraded Galaxy Z Flip 3 cover display seem to be attracting a lot more customers. In fact, Samsung is already facing low stock issues in a few markets, with demand being even higher than expected.

The Thom Browne Editions weren’t left out either. Both the Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 Thom Browne editions were sold out in record time — in less than 5 minutes — in Taiwan, so it looks like lots of people are finally ready to leave the candy bar smartphone design behind.

Galaxy S21 gets the One UI 3.1.1 firmware update in secret, sort of

Samsung is now rolling out a second August firmware update for the Galaxy S21 series, and although it’s not called One UI 3.1.1, it might as well have been. The new firmware introduces a handful of improvements and new features across the board, with enough changes on hand to consider this a One UI upgrade — even if it technically still is One UI 3.1.

The new firmware update weighs about 970MB, and it’s rolling out in European countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. The Galaxy S21 Ultra appears to have priority over the base and Plus models, but they should all be getting the same update eventually. Users can identify it by firmware version G99xBXXU3AUHB.

Lots of minor improvements and changes coming your way

The One UI 3.1.1 update *ahem* I mean the new One UI 3.1 firmware update for the Galaxy S21 series appears to be introducing a wide variety of small changes, from new and faster animations — though we haven’t noticed much of a change in this regard — to faster app launching. Some users are reporting that the firmware update even helps the Galaxy S21 series dissipate heat with more ease, though we can’t guarantee this.

Samsung also went back to the drawing board with Enhanced Processing. It’s no longer called that. It’s now referred to as “Processing Speed” and it includes three new presets: Optimized, High, and Maximum. Oddly enough though, this feature wasn’t changed for Samsung’s foldables. For example, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 running One UI 3.1.1 retains the old Enhanced Processing feature, so for now, this change appears to be there only for the Galaxy S21 series.

In addition, there’s a new Bedtime Mode toggle in the quick toggle area, as spotted by our colleagues at Galaxy Club. Bedtime Mode was added to Digital Wellbeing at the beginning of the year.

If you are a Galaxy S21/S21+/S21 Ultra owner, you can check for new updates by opening the Settings app on the phone and accessing the Software update section. Or you can skip this and check our firmware database where you can manually download new Samsung updates for your region and the model number you’re using.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra was spotted running Android 12

The Android 12-based One UI 4.0 beta program is expected to be going live soon. Samsung has yet to offer an exact launch date for the first beta build, but the Galaxy S21 Ultra was just spotted online running Android 12.

A Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G unit running Android 12 appears to have been benchmarked online using Geekbench. The benchmark entry reveals the usual bits of hardware information along with single and multi-core scores of 1,122 and 3,469 points, respectively. And, of course, the listing claims that the phone under test runs Android 12, presumably with One UI 4.0 on top. Or at least a beta version of it.

Thankfully, this isn’t the only clue that tells us Android 12 beta is closing in. Samsung is paving the way for the upcoming firmware update and has started updating some of its apps with support for Android 12.

Chances are that the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 beta program will first be open for the Galaxy S21 series and possibly the Galaxy Note 20 duo. As to which devices are eligible for Android 12 and One UI 4.0, dozens of candidates will be waiting in line for the live release. The first public beta version should go live before the end of the year, but nothing’s set in stone yet.

Spotify group sessions now possible on your Galaxy smartphone

If you’re a Spotify user with a Galaxy smartphone or two, you might want to make sure you’re running the very latest version of the app. As the company now appears to be rolling out the group session feature more widely. While the functionality itself is a bit niche, it’s worth checking out if only for the novelty of hearing a seamless listening experience.

Namely, there aren’t that many apps out there that will manage to make a Samsung smartphone, Windows PC, Alexa speaker, and an iPad play together nicely. But that’s precisely what Spotify group sessions have been doing already. The feature works pretty much perfectly no matter what combination of devices you try to employ. It’s Internet/Wi-Fi-based, so that’s not a huge surprise – just a rarity. But multiplatform excellence is something Samsung, itself, has been known to pursue.

Not many app makers do multiplatform support as seamlessly as Spotify

Group sessions have been a beta feature in Spotify for at least a month by now. And while the streaming giant still hasn’t said anything officially, it now appears the functionality is making its way to non-beta subscribers, as well. Even if you aren’t seeing it on your end but someone else is, you should be able to join a listening session by simply scanning the code from the host.

Alternatively, the Android Spotify Beta always seems to be accepting new testers. So failing everything else, just join that one and proceed to downloading a newer version of the app.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 Thom Browne Editions sell out in 5 minutes

To the surprise of critics, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 seem to be enjoying a lot of success in their early pre-order days. Pre-purchase figures are unexpectedly high, and Samsung claims to have broken sales records in the segment. However, the standard models aren’t the only ones to enjoy this high level of popularity. The Galaxy Z3 Thom Browne Editions are selling like hot cakes as well.

Samsung revealed today that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 Thom Browne Editions in Taiwan have sold out in record time. In just five minutes, to be precise. Pre-orders were open at noon today and were closed before everyone could even get a chance.

Fans flock to the Experience Hall to witness the limited-edition foldables

The Samsung Breeze Nanshan Experience Hall is where the Thom Browne Editions were exhibited, and according to Samsung, the hall was flooded with mobile enthusiasts who wanted to experience the Galaxy Z3 Thom Browne Edition flagships first-hand.

The Thom Browne Editions are no longer available in Taiwan, and Samsung hasn’t talked about the possibility of restocking. However, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 can still be pre-ordered for NT$56,888 ($2,359) and NT$30,888 ($1,106), respectively.

Galaxy S22 and S22+ zoom camera makes next flagship worth the money

Samsung is reportedly making some key changes to its flagship camera design next year. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ are now rumored to feature a new 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom capabilities, as opposed to a high resolution sensor with poor optical zoom.

The Galaxy S21 and S21+ have only 1.1x optical zoom, but they offset this shortcoming with a high-resolution 64MP sensor that enables digital zoom. The upcoming Galaxy S22 and S22+, however, will reportedly take a different route. The telephoto sensor will have a lower pixel count, but it will benefit from proper 3x optical zoom.

Bringing a taste of Ultra to the base and Plus models

In essence, this might be the same 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, dual pixel PDAF, and OIS that’s found on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It’s also expected to be used by the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which means that the upcoming flagship trio should share more similarities in the camera department than the previous generations did.

Previous rumors suggested that the base Galaxy S22 models will have a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom, but that doesn’t seem to be the case in light of the latest leak, courtesy of Galaxy Club. However, the upcoming Samsung flagships — or at least the base models — are still expected to each have a 50MP main camera along with the improved telephoto sensor.

Samsung just shut up its foldable critics in the most epic way

Samsung took a bold step in 2019 when it launched the original Galaxy Fold. The device was too rough around the edges and too expensive, but it showed that the limits to what a smartphone is can be expanded.

Merely six months later, the company absolutely hit it out of the park with the Galaxy Z Flip. Its first clamshell foldable implemented the many lessons Samsung had learned from the Galaxy Fold’s launch. It had better build quality, durability and functionality.

Then came the Galaxy Z Fold 2. It was the perfect successor to the original model. The fit and finish were considerably improved. The device was much more durable and new functionality was added to further improve the user experience.

With every new iteration, Samsung has shown the capability to improve upon its foldable smartphones. Each new product has been consistently better than the last. In just two years, the company has been able to launch foldable smartphones that are deserving of being seen as mainstream devices.

Yet, despite that, critics have always tried to bring down Samsung’s impressive achievements. The foldables were kept being painted as unfinished. Doubts were created in the mind of potential customers that they would be wasting their money on these risky devices. Some even called into question the future of the foldable market as a whole. They presented it as a fad that would die out soon enough.

Samsung didn’t really pay much attention to all of that. It kept its head down and continued to innovate in this segment. There is no bigger validation of its commitment to the foldable market than its decision to skip a new Galaxy Note flagship this year.

Due to the ongoing chip shortage, it probably would have been difficult for Samsung to ensure adequate chip supplies for at least two new Galaxy Note devices and two new foldables. Many would have expected Samsung to play it safe and rely on the continued success of the Note family.

Instead, the company chose to break out of that comfort zone and push forward with its new foldable smartphones. It has prioritized the Galaxy Z Fold 3 (review) and Galaxy Z Flip 3 over devices that would have sold very well. That was a pretty gutsy move.

Perhaps Samsung knew that the changes that it has introduced with the new foldables will be enough to entice a lot more customers to buy them. They have better and more durable displays, flagship-level performance, great new features and are even water-resistant.

Samsung also gave the devices a significant price cut. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 (review) starts at $999, breaking that $1,000 psychological barrier. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is also cheaper than its predecessors at $1,799.

The way customers just can’t stop buying these devices shows that Samsung made the right decision. The earliest pre-order figures came from South Korea. Over 450,000 units were pre-ordered of the two foldables combined. Samsung later confirmed that pre-orders for these devices were more than its entire foldable smartphone sales to date.

The latest figures provided today confirm that people are voting with their wallets in favor of Samsung. In South Korea alone, 920,000 units combined have been pre-orders. That’s twice as many pre-orders as Samsung got for the Galaxy S21 in its home country this year. Pre-order performance of its new foldables is actually 30% better than the Galaxy Note 20 and a whopping 80% better than the Galaxy S21.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is capturing a lot of customers at its attractive price point. 70% of these 920,000 pre-orders were for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Remember, these figures are only for South Korea. Other major markets are likely seeing robust pre-order performance as well.

It’s safe to assume that Samsung has already sold over a million new foldable smartphones through pre-orders across the globe. The new devices are so popular that supply shortages are already been reported in some markets.

Clearly, a lot more people are now willing to take a chance on Samsung’s foldables. This hasn’t just happened out of the blue. It’s the trust that Samsung has built up over the past couple of years. It’s the commitment that the company has shown to this new segment that it’s entirely leading right now.

Samsung let the numbers do the talking. After all, these are some of the best Samsung phones ever made. The incredible demand that now exists for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 is more than enough to shut up the critics would have liked nothing more than to see this bold innovation fail.

As the saying goes, build it and they will come. Samsung did. They have.

Fortnite Galaxy Cup 2.0 kicks off on Sunday with new cosmetic items to earn

Samsung, in partnership with Epic Games, is announcing Galaxy Cup 2.0. It’s an event dedicated to Fortnite for Android, just like last year, and everyone can participate as long as they’re at least 13 years old. Participants will earn prizes, and of course, the event introduces new cosmetic items as rewards for top players.

Galaxy Cup 2.0 is a Solo competition and, according to Epic Games, it’s the first-ever Arsenal LTM Fortnite tournament. The company says it picked this game mode for a couple of reasons. First, the length of matches fits the tournament format, and second, it’s very popular with the Fortnite mobile community.

The very best players win a new outfit, back blink, and wrap

The top players in Galaxy Cup 2.0 will be awarded the new Galaxy Grappler outfit, the Hands of the Galaxy back bling, and the Vortextual wrap. You can refer to the tables below to see the requirements for each region.

In addition to these new cosmetics that are reserved for the top players, Epic Games will be giving the OG Llamalaxy spray to all participants who earn at least 20 points during the tournament.

Samsung and Epic Games continue playing nicely

Although Galaxy Cup 2.0 is open to all Android users (rules and regulations apply), Galaxy smartphones and tablets continue providing the easiest way to play Fortnite on mobile, without forcing users to go through the developer’s website and other hoops.

Unlike the majority of mobile apps, Fortnite is not available for download through the Google Play Store (or the Apple App Store, for that matter), but it is available at the Samsung Galaxy Store. Just make sure you search for the Epic Games launcher instead of “Fortnite,” or just visit this link.

Samsung’s AR filters let you visualize The Frame TV in your living space

Samsung’s The Frame smart TV strikes a perfect balance between a smart TV and an art decor piece that enhances your room’s aesthetics. Its customizable bezels make it easy for users to blend the TV into their living space.

Now, those looking to buy one can experience in real-time what The Frame would look like in their house, thanks to some new AR Filters on Facebook and Instagram.

Samsung India is also giving away four The Frame smart TVs

The filters will be available via Instagram and let users visualize their living space with The Frame. It will also let users play around with the bezels and looks, allowing them to select the one that suits their space the best.

This is a useful feature in these times when a lot of users might not be able to venture outside to get a feel for products. Then again, this is common practice in the post-pandemic era, especially among furniture companies.

Samsung India has further sweetened by pot by opening up a new contest where Facebook/Instagram users need to upload a screenshot of The Frame AR Filter in their living space and tagging Samsung India.

The contest is live now and will expire on September 9. Winners will be announced on September 27. You can check out the filters by going to the dedicated links for Facebook and Instagram. Do note that you need to be on a mobile device to access the aforementioned links.

Samsung becomes the world’s third-largest smartwatch manufacturer

Multiple reports have confirmed that Samsung is the king of the global smart TV market. On the other hand, its wearable division was consistently playing second fiddle to the likes of Apple. Things are more or less the same this time around, according to a new survey from a South Korean market research firm.

In Q2, 2021, Samsung captured 7.6% of the global smartwatch market. Despite the overwhelming odds, Huawei still managed to hold its position in the market with a share of 9.3%, which is significantly lower than its last year’s figure of 13%. Apple is still the king of the hill with 28% of all smartwatches sold globally.

Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch 2 Active ensured Samsung’s success

Samsung’s success can be attributed to impressive Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2 sales, despite them falling on the ‘premium’ edge of the spectrum. There’s no denying that they are some of the best Samsung smartwatches ever.

It is quite impressive, especially when we consider that Samsung managed to sell more smartwatches than all of China’s BBK International (Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Realme iQOO) combined.

Although high-end smartwatches from Apple and Samsung continue to reign supreme, the demand for sub-$100 wearables has grown by a whopping 527% compared to last year. Now, we can’t really expect Apple to foray into that segment, but Samsung would do well to launch some low-cost fitness trackers like the Galaxy Fit to capture some of that market.

It’ll be interesting to see if the newly-launched WearOS-powered Galaxy Watch 4 has any meaningful impact on Samsung’s future prospects. Samsung’s heavily-publicized partnership with Google is undoubtedly good for end-users, but whether or not it will help drive sales remains to be seen.

Galaxy S21 vs Galaxy Z Flip 3: To flip or not to flip?

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is officially releasing tomorrow, August 27th. And while you might not have planned to get a foldable this year, anyone in the market for a high-end smartphone should be considering one, anyway. From a technical perspective, it’s best to take a look at how the device compares to the Galaxy S21. As that’s the newest Samsung flagship sitting in its sub-$1,000 price range.

Just a couple of years ago, few would have expected Samsung’s foldable devices to be this refined just three generations in. And yet, looking at how the Galaxy Z Flip 3 fares against the Galaxy S21, not many compromises are required if you want to hop in on the foldable bandwagon right now.

In terms of computing prowess, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy S21 are pretty much identical. Meaning they utilize the Snapdragon 888 chipset and their base models start at 128GB of flash storage and 8GB of RAM. The former is of the UFS 3.1 variety, making it as fast as they come.

Battery-wise, the Galaxy S21 comes out on top with a 4,000mAh cell. As opposed to the 3,300mAh unit sitting inside the Galaxy Z Flip 3. And it actually supports 25W charging, whereas the foldable device is still stuck with 15W tech.

The Z Flip 3 wins if you’re looking for the cool factor

If you’re big on video content creation, another notable difference is 8K recording support that’s only available on the Galaxy 21. Granted, this solution is still in its infancy and the Galaxy S21 can only shoot 8K in 24 frames per second. But at least the option is there.

Looking at raw technical data, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 might be a step behind the Galaxy S21 in low-light photography, as it uses a slightly smaller sensor. Plus, it lacks a telephoto zoom that its counterpart offers. But let’s not pretend smartphone zoom lenses stopped sucking while we weren’t looking, except if you buy Samsung’s Ultra-branded flagships.

Of course, one area in which the Galaxy Z Flip 3 easily comes out ahead of the Galaxy S21 is the display. Which offers a larger pixel count (1,080 x 2,640 vs 1,080 x 2,400) and more real estate (6.7 vs 6.2 inches), resulting in a higher pixel density (426ppi vs 421ppi). That’s without even mentioning the foldable thing which, you know, is kind of the main selling point of the device.

Five years ago, this would have been labeled a “phablet” due to how enormous its screen is. And yet its folded physical footprint is smaller than even some of Samsung’s earliest Android smartphones. It’s pretty much the future of mobile in every display-related sense.

Whether the aforementioned trade-offs and a price tag roughly $200 higher to that of the Galaxy S21 are worth it is up to you. But overall, the differences are rather minimal and if you’re going to spend a grand on a new smartphone, you might as well maximize the coolness factor, no?

Time to get excited: Samsung’s One UI 4.0 beta could be here soon

Google surprised everyone this year by unveiling a newer version of Android earlier than its usual time frame. The first developer beta version of Android 12 landed in February 2021. Last month, Samsung announced Android 12-based One UI 4.0 and revealed that there would be a One UI 4.0 beta program for the Galaxy S21 series. We expect the One UI 4.0 beta update to arrive soon.

Samsung has released a new version (v4.7.31) of the One Hand Operation+ app on the Galaxy Store, and its changelog mentions Android 12 support. It means that the One UI 4.0 beta update could be released very soon, probably in September 2021. Samsung seems to be readying its own apps to run properly on Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 12-based One UI 4.0.

The new version of One Hand Operation+ brings various bug fixes, stability improvements, and the ability to modify the minimum value of long swipe gesture distance.

What to expect with Android 12-based One UI 4.0?

It has been revealed in the past that One UI 4.0 will bring big UI changes, including refreshed icons and color schemes. Apparently, the whole look will resemble stock Android 12 UI design, complete with Material You elements and integration. It is also being rumored that Samsung will improve the performance of phones equipped with Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 888 chipsets. Improvements to Samsung Knox and Samsung Notes are expected as well.

Samsung might also release One UI 4.0 beta programs for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series. Eventually, the company will release the Android 12 update to most Galaxy smartphones and tablets released over the past two years. You can look at the list of Galaxy devices that will get the Android 12 update.

New Google Pixel will have 5G support thanks to Samsung

The new Google Pixel phone was teased by the company itself. Google gave a glimpse of the Pixel 6 when the company announced its new Tensor chipset that will power the device. A new report reveals that the device is going to have support for 5G.

Samsung is going to supply the necessary components that add 5G support to the Pixel 6. Samsung and Google have worked closely on the power package for this device. So it’s not surprising that the Korean giant is bringing 5G to it as well.

Google Pixel 6 will use a Samsung 5G modem

Previous reports have highlighted that Google’s new Tensor SoC is going to be manufactured by Samsung on its 5nm process. The chipset itself was previously rumored as an unreleased Samsung Exynos processor. The Pixel 6’s cameras might also have Samsung’s ISOCELL sensors.

Citing two sources familiar with the matter, Reuters reports that Google is going to use a Samsung 5G modem for the Pixel 6. This shows how significant the collaboration between both companies has been for this device.

Instead of using a Qualcomm 5G modem, Google chose one from Samsung. Previous Google Pixel flagships have used Qualcomm chipsets but the company has preferred Samsung’s help for the SoC too.

Three companies are the main suppliers of 5G modems for mobile devices – Samsung, Qualcomm and MediaTek. Samsung’s next-gen 5G modem is going to support millimeter wave 5G technology as well. Google has previously confirmed that the Pixel 6 will support mmWave.

Qualcomm remains the leading supplier of 5G modems for mobile devices. Google’s decision to go with Samsung’s modem will enable the Korean company to expand its footprint in this market. It’s also a major vote of confidence from Google that might push other OEMs to consider Samsung modems in their smartphones as well.

Exynos 2200 demolishes Apple’s A14 Bionic in graphics benchmark

We’ve heard about AMD and Samsung’s joint efforts to develop a mobile GPU for the better part of the past year. Initial benchmarks showed that it handily outperformed Apple’s A14 Bionic across the board. Now, a new set of benchmark results have emerged online, and they pretty much sing the same tune. Then again, the A14 Bionic is previous-generation technology now, and it’ll be interesting to see how the Exynos 2200 holds up against its successor, the A15 Bionic.

The AMD GPU in question appears to have 6 CUs (Compute Units) and a clock speed of 1.31GHz. It was put through the paces in three different GFXBench 3.0 runs. In the first test, dubbed Manhattan, the GPU managed to push 170 fps, putting it far ahead of the Apple A14 Bionic, which couldn’t go beyond 120 fps.

In Aztec Normal and Aztec High, the GPU managed to hit 121.4 fps and 51.5 fps, well ahead of the A14’s scores of 79.9 fps and 30 fps, respectively. Interestingly enough, the AMD RDNA2 GPU somehow managed to perform worse than a year ago. It could be due to AMD and Samsung playing around with power limits. After all, one of the main reasons for the AMD GPU’s launch was bad thermals on existing Exynos chips.

That is the main reason why it is hard to predict how well the final product will perform. Although AMD’s RDNA2 architecture is more than capable of blowing any modern-day mobile GPU out of the water, cooling it in a smartphone-like form factor is quite challenging. It all depends on Samsung’s decision to ship the Galaxy S22 series with vapor chamber cooling.

Lastly, a report suggests that not all markets will get the AMD Radeon-powered GPU in their Galaxy S22 units. The global semiconductor shortage, combined with less than ideal yields on Samsung’s 4nm node, will result in limited Exynos 2200 chipsets being manufactured.

Samsung’s new foldables and smartwatches are so popular that stocks are already a problem

Samsung’s swanky new foldable smartphones feature improved designs, better specs, and lower prices. No wonder they have become quite popular in various markets. It was reported a few days ago that Samsung has managed to rake in close to a million pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in South Korea. Now, it is being reported that the company’s new products are delayed in more countries.

The South Korean firm has started sending out emails to customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Watch 4, and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic that they should expect some delay in getting the shipments. Apparently, the 512GB version of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is facing delays in Germany, and the device will get delivered in mid-September instead of August.

In France and the UK, pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 seem to be delayed, and customers can expect to get their devices by September 9 to mid-September.

There also seems to be a delay in shipping pre-orders of the Galaxy Watch 4 in Germany and Spain, and the 46mm LTE version of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The smartwatches are also delayed in France. In the US, shipping dates for the 256GB version of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 (Green) have been moved forward.

This year, Samsung focussed on making its foldable phones more affordable and accessible. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 are stronger and feature an IPX8 rating for dust and water resistance. They also feature stronger and more durable screens. When it comes to the company’s new smartwatches, they are the first in the world to run the brand new Wear OS 3 that is faster and more efficient.

Galaxy A30s picks up the August 2021 security update

Over the past four weeks, Samsung has released the August 2021 security update to dozens of Galaxy devices. The Galaxy A52 was the first device to get Samsung’s latest security patch, and the update is now being rolled out to the Galaxy A30s. The mid-range smartphone was launched in mid-2019 with Android 9 on board.

The Galaxy A30s is now getting a new software update with firmware version A307GTVJS4CUH1 in Brazil and Peru. This new update includes the August 2021 security patch that claims to fix 40 vulnerabilities related to privacy and security. It could also include device stability improvements and general bug fixes.

If you are a Galaxy A30s user in any of the markets mentioned above, you might have already received a notification of the update. If you haven’t, you can check for it manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install.
