T-Mobile starts rolling out Android 10 update to Galaxy Tab S6

Samsung started the rollout of Android 10 to its current-generation flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S6, three months ago. One month later, Verizon released the Android 10 update to the Galaxy Tab S6 on its network. Now, T-Mobile has released the Android 10 software update to the tablet on its network in the US.

The new software update with firmware version T867USQU2BTE1 brings Android 10 to the LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 (SM-T867U). It also features One UI 2.1 and the May 2020 Android security patch. The file size of the update is over 2.1GB, so we would advise you to use a Wi-Fi connection to download the new software.

Although T-Mobile’s changelog doesn’t mention new features, the Android 10 update brings smoother animations and transitions, Google’s gesture-based UI navigation, improved Dark Mode, tweaked color scheme and icons, and more. Then there’s an improved camera app and a refreshed design inside the Device Care section. Thanks to One UI 2.1, you also get features like Music Share and Quick Share.

If you own an LTE version of the Galaxy Tab S6 on T-Mobile’s network, you will automatically be notified about the new software update. Alternatively, you can check for the update manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install.

Galaxy Watch 3 could launch on July 22

We had exclusively reported earlier this month that Samsung could launch the Galaxy Watch 3 and the bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live in July, ahead of the launch of the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Fold 2 in August. We also exclusively leaked the specifications of the company’s upcoming smartwatch. Over the past week, press renders of the Galaxy Watch 3 have been leaked, teasing the launch date of the wearable.

The leaked press render image of the Galaxy Watch 3 teases ’22’ and ‘Wed’ on its watch face. In fact, July 22 is indeed on a Wednesday, leading us to believe that the smartwatch will officially debut on July 22. Samsung might not hold a press conference for the announcement of the Galaxy Watch 3 and the Galaxy Buds Live due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

The Galaxy Watch 3 will come in two sizes (41mm and 45mm), two case options (stainless steel and titanium), and three colors (black, bronze, and silver). The 41mm version of the smartwatch will have a 1.2-inch screen, while the 45mm version will sport a 1.4-inch display. The smartwatch will have a circular Super AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass DX protection, two physical buttons on the right side, and standard-sized replaceable watch straps.

The upcoming smartwatch succeeds the Galaxy Watch and features a rotating bezel and an IP67 certification with 5 ATM water resistance. It will be equipped with 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The Galaxy Watch 3 will also feature GPS, heart-rate monitor, blood pressure monitoring, ECG, and sleep tracking. The 41mm version will be powered by a 247mAh battery, while the 45mm version will have a 340mAh battery.

Samsung to hold QLED TV sales exhibition in South Korea to celebrate a special milestone

Samsung has been the number one TV brand in the world for 14 consecutive years, and that’s no small feat. To celebrate this special milestone, the company has announced that it is holding a QLED TV sales exhibition in South Korea where customers can bag benefits worth KRW 1 million (around $835).

The special sales exhibition will start from tomorrow (July 1, 2020) and end on September 30, 2020. Customers will have to return their old TVs and buy a QT80 series or higher-end QLED TV from Samsung to be eligible for receiving benefits. There’s no restriction on the old TV’s brand, model, size, or the year of its make.

During this sales period, customers can buy a 40-inch QLED TV at the same price that they could buy a 40-inch Full HD TV 10 years ago. Samsung’s 4K QLED TVs bring much higher resolution, color volume, contrast ratio, audio quality, HDR10+, and more modern software in comparison.

Samsung is also offering a special 80% discount on its soundbars when customers buy a Q series soundbar with a QLED TV. Using the company’s QLED TV with a Q series soundbar lets users receive audio output from both the devices at once through the Q Symphony feature, resulting in fuller and richer audio.

The South Korean TV giant is also offering a 6-month unlimited pass of TVING, a popular online video streaming app in the country, for free to all customers who purchase a compatible QLED TV during the sales exhibition. The exhibition is being held on Samsung.com, Open Market, Samsung Digital Place, Hi-Mart, and E-Land.

Jeong Ho-Jin, Managing Director of Samsung Electronics South Korea, said, “We celebrated the world’s top TV sales for 14 years in a row and thanked customers for this event. We look forward to experiencing the benefits.” Yesterday, Samsung also launched its new QLED TV lineup with South Korea’s highest energy efficiency rating.

Here’s a 360-degree look at the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

We have known for a few months now that Samsung is going to launch a new smartwatch in the near future. It has since come to be known that this smartwatch is going to be called the Galaxy Watch 3. Several renders of the device have been leaked online as well which have given us a good look at it.

Today, a GIF has been posted online by a prolific leaker. It gives us a complete 360-degree look at Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch, providing us with our best opportunity yet to gawk at the Galaxy Watch 3.

Best look yet at the Galaxy Watch 3

This 360-degree GIF posted by @evleaks of the 45mm Galaxy Watch 3 shows off the device in its Titanium finish. We exclusively revealed last month that Samsung will offer the Galaxy Watch 3 in Titanium. This will be the first time that Samsung utilizes this material for a smartwatch. We can see the Galaxy Watch 3 with a matching Titanium band in this GIF and you’ve got to admit, it looks pretty sweet.

From what we know so far, the Galaxy Watch 3 is going to be offered in 41mm and 45mm sizes with a 1.2-inch and 1.4-inch display respectively. It will be available in both stainless steel and titanium finishes with LTE and GPS support, IP68 water resistance and a MIL-STD-810G design. Samsung is also bringing back the physical rotating bezel with the Galaxy Watch 3, which is something that its fans are very much looking forward to.

Samsung has not yet confirmed when it’s going to unveil the new smartwatch. However, it does appear that we won’t have to wait until the August 5 event for the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Fold 2. All signs currently point to a Galaxy Watch 3 launch over the next couple of weeks. Who’s excited?

Samsung Rewards points can now get you games from the Galaxy Store

Thinking about where to spend all of those Samsung Rewards points you have racked up? Samsung is now giving you another avenue to spend them. It’s one that users who like playing games on their Samsung phones are really going to appreciate.

From now on, it’s possible to both earn and redeem Samsung Rewards points for games from the Galaxy Store. Samsung’s own app repository has a decent collection of games so this is actually a pretty nice step the company has taken.

A new way to keep users within the ecosystem

Samsung Rewards members will earn three points for every dollar that they spend on games in the Galaxy Store. They will also be able to redeem their existing points to download new games from the Galaxy Store.

Obviously, this is a great way for Samsung to keep users within the ecosystem. The points that they earn for buying its products can, in turn, be used on buying games from its own app store. Users who try to maximize their Samsung Rewards earnings now have an incentive to prefer downloading games from the Galaxy Store instead.

This is just the beginning of this synergy between Samsung Rewards and the Galaxy Store. The company says that it’s going to bring these services even closer over the summer. Those who sign up for Samsung Rewards now will get $10 in points to use at the Galaxy Store as a welcome bonus. Members can also score 2x points on all in-game purchases at the Galaxy Store throughout the month of July.

Samsung Brazil has launched an exciting limited-time offer wherein new Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra buyers can get a Galaxy Watch Active 2 for free. All they need to do is purchase one of the aforementioned flagships online, register the product, and wait for the free gift to be delivered to their doorsteps within 60 working days from the date or approval.

The Galaxy S20 limited-time offer was launched in Brazil earlier today and lasts until July 12. Customers who purchase one of the flagship phones during this period will be eligible to register for the free Galaxy Watch Active 2 until July 31.

A generous reward for your wrist

A free Galaxy Watch Active 2 is nothing to scoff at, especially in Brazil where consumer electronics tend to sell for prices higher than usual. Case in point, purchasing the Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Watch Active 2 separately in Brazil would normally set you back a little over BRL 1,799 ($330).

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra models with 128GB of on-board storage are presently available in Brazil for BRL 4,949 ($907), BRL 5,399 ($989), and BRL 7,199 ($1,319), respectively. The 512GB Galaxy S20 Ultra can set you back BRL 7,649 ($1,402). Check the links below for more details on Samsung’s latest flagship phones, wearable, and the ongoing limited-time offer in Brazil. Galaxy Note 20, Fold 2, Tab S7 rumored to ship with Snapdragon 865+

Samsung may want to equip the Galaxy Note 20 series, the Galaxy Fold 2, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and the Galaxy Tab S7 duo with the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset in some markets after all. This is true at least according to a fresh rumor passed along the Twitter leaker sphere despite the claims of earlier reports on the matter.

A couple of months ago, the head of Meizu Technology Marketing claimed that Qualcomm has no intentions to push the Snapdragon 865+ into mass production this year, meaning that, in turn, Samsung’s upcoming flagships will use the existing Snapdragon 865 chipset in some markets. Only time will tell if this will indeed be the case in regards to Qualcomm’s manufacturing plans for the near future, but so far, there hasn’t been much evidence to support a 2020 launch for the Snapdragon 865+.

Snapdragon 865+ was seemingly spotted in a benchmark

The Snapdragon 865+ was apparently benchmarked in AnTuTu a few weeks ago, at first glance signaling that Qualcomm may be preparing it for the masses. However, an early benchmark listing doesn’t really say much about the manufacturer’s exact plans for the silicon’s market release, so a 2020 debut may very well still be off the table even if the SoC is undergoing testing.

According to preliminary data, the Snapdragon 865+ chipset is said to be equipped with a single main CPU core clocked at up to 3.1GHz, three high-performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz, and four low-energy cores operating at a frequency of up to 1.8GHz. In other markets where the Galaxy Note 20 lineup won’t be powered by the Snapdragon 865+ or other Qualcomm solutions, the series is expected to feature an Exynos 992 chipset. Like the Snapdragon 865+, the Exynos 992 has yet to be officially unveiled and its specifications are largely unknown.

Samsung Display led the global market in Q1, largely thanks to OLED

Samsung Display maintained the lead in the smartphone display market throughout Q1 2020, reveals a new report from Strategy Analytics. Global revenues have increased by 3% year-over-year, with the entire smartphone display market registered total revenues of $9 billion over the previous quarter.

The trend in Q1 2020 was a higher demand for OLED solutions and an oversupply of LCD panels due to falling demand. Global revenues got bumped up slightly only thanks to the increase in popularity for OLED panels, and because Samsung Display is the leading OLED distributor in the world, the company was able to capitalize on this higher demand and managed to cover 52% of the global smartphone display market by the end of Q1 2020. Samsung Display was followed by BOE Technology and Tianma Microelectronics.

Flexible OLED technology also proves to be a success

LCD technology seems to be on its way out, not only in regards to smartphones but also larger panels. Samsung already decided to end production of all LCD panels by the end of the year. Meanwhile, the company is focusing its efforts on OLED panel production as well as the manufacturing of flexible OLED solutions. Samsung is the primary flexible OLED maker in the world and this also contributed to its success in Q1 2020.

As for the near future, Strategy Analytics estimates that the global smartphone display market will likely feel the negative effects left in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in the coming months. The output will reportedly experience a slowdown due to the disruption in supply chains of customers.

T-Mobile starts pushing out One UI 2.1 to Galaxy Note 9 owners

The wait lasted for nearly a month, but American owners of the Galaxy Note 9 who also happen to be T-Mobile customers are finally receiving One UI 2.1. The update that adds a wide variety of new functionalities to Samsung’s 2018 flagship began rolling out several hours back, as confirmed by several users as of this writing. While Sprint and T-Mobile are now one and the same, that wasn’t the case when the Galaxy Note 9 was first released, meaning Sprint customers are still waiting for their carrier to begin deploying the latest update.

Galaxy Note 9 owners on T-Mobile’s network can attempt triggering a manual update by launching their Settings app, selecting, Software update, and tapping the Update and install option on the following screen. As always, full system images will be available for download from SamMobile’s firmware archive shortly following their official debuts.

Galaxy Note 9 feeling fresher than ever

Save for Bixby Routines, this firmware version is largely on par with newer Samsung flagships in terms of software features. More camera modes, better sharing integrations, improved Bluetooth performance, AR Emoji that aren’t absolutely horrible, and automatic grouping of photos and videos inside the Gallery app are just some of the new functionalities bundled with the One UI 2.1 update.

Overall, the Galaxy Note 9 should be feeling fresher than ever following its jump to the latest One UI version. That’s nothing to scoff at seeing how this smartphone series is turning two in just over a month, with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 reveal reportedly being scheduled for early August.

Galaxy S20 July update lands in more markets with a different changelog

The July 2020 security update for the Galaxy S20 series is now rolling in more markets including Germany and the UAE. However, it turns out that the latest update doesn’t have the same changelog in these regions as it does in South Korea, and instead, it carries a slightly older one.

The new firmware version G98xFXXU3ATFG for the Exynos-powered international Galaxy S20 models arrives with the July 2020 security patch but it doesn’t bring improved video stabilization, higher quality zoomed-in photos, or the ability to use a Bluetooth microphone when recording audio with the Voice Recording app.

Instead, the latest update that’s being rolled out for the international Galaxy S20 has the same changelog as the previous G98xxXXU2ATE6 update. It changes the way close-up zoom functions but that’s about all there is to it. Nevertheless, we suspect that the more recent changes that were introduced in South Korea last week will eventually become more widely-available, presumably alongside other monthly security updates bound to be released in the coming weeks.

To grab the latest firmware and the July 2020 security update for the Exynos-powered Galaxy S20 series you can check our firmware archive and browse for your particular model and region. You can also wait for the update to arrive on your device, or go to Settings, Software update, and tap Download and install to attempt to trigger the update process manually.

Galaxy A31 with Mediatek SoC and 4GB RAM is now available in Spain

Samsung is bringing its latest Mediatek-powered budget phone, the Galaxy A31, to Spain. The device has been officially launched in the country in two color options, with 64GB of on-board storage and 4GB of RAM. The Galaxy A31 offers premium specifications such as a quad camera and a 5,000mAh battery in an entry-level device, said Marketing Director of Samsung Spain, Luis de la Peña.

The Galaxy A31 is one of Samsung’s few smartphones that don’t employe an Exynos or Snapdragon chipset. Instead it uses the MediaTek Helio P65 featuring two ARM Cortex-A75 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 low-power cores, as well as a Mali-G52 MC2 graphics chip.

A decent package for anything but gaming

Samsung’s Galaxy A31 can be described as a solid budget phone for people who don’t care much about mobile gaming. Low gaming performance is one of its biggest downsides, however, the device can perform other regular daily tasks with ease. Mobile photography is also not something to write home about, but the Galaxy A31 has excellent battery life, a decent in-display fingerprint sensor, and a great Super AMOLED 6.4-inch display with a resolution of 2400 by 1080. It even benefits from NFC connectivity and compatibility with Samsung Pay, a financial service that’s been available in Spain since mid-2016.

The Galaxy A31 is now listed online at Samsung Spain and a ‘Buy Now’ button should be popping-up soon. Samsung is launching the Galaxy A31 in Spain for 299 euros in Prism Crush Black and Prism Crush Blue. Check the links below for more details.

Latest Galaxy Z Flip firmware update is out now with July security patch

Samsung has really picked up the pace with its monthly security updates over the past year. Several devices now receive the security maintenance release for the following month even before the details about the patch are made public.

The Galaxy S20 was the first device to get the July 2020 security patch last week and it was followed by the Galaxy A50. Samsung is now rolling out the latest Galaxy Z Flip firmware update which brings the security patch for the month of July.

Galaxy Z Flip gets the July 2020 security patch

This latest Galaxy Z Flip firmware is now widely available in markets across Asia, Europe the Middle East and South America. Samsung is rolling out firmware version F700FXXS2ATF3 for the Galaxy Z Flip. It’s available for immediate download from our firmware section.

There won’t be much in the way of new features with this update. It’s a routine security maintenance release that patches vulnerabilities in the Android operating system as well as Samsung’s proprietary software.

The July 2020 security patch hasn’t been detailed as yet, so it’s unclear precisely which vulnerabilities have been patched by this update. Samsung should follow through with the details on this patch over the next few days.

Those who are looking forward to new features for their Galaxy Z Flip may not have to wait much longer. Samsung is due to launch One UI 2.5 with the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The latest iteration of its custom skin is bound to bring several new features. It will eventually be released for existing devices like the Galaxy Z Flip as well.

Exclusive: Galaxy A42 to make 5G Samsung phones even cheaper in 2021

Samsung’s 5G ambitions are no secret. The Korean giant’s first 5G phone was the Galaxy S10 5G, and Samsung followed it up with 5G models in the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy 20 lineups. Samsung has also introduced variants of the mid-range Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 that support the fifth generation standard for mobile networks in a bid to make the technology more affordable, and we have learned that the company could double down further on achieving that goal next year.

Samsung has started development on what seems to be a 5G-enabled smartphone as part of its 2021 Galaxy A series. The device in question sports model number SM-A426B, and based on Samsung’s current system for putting model numbers on phones, the SM-A426B should be the international variant of the Galaxy A42 5G.

Galaxy A42 5G to lower the barrier of entry

Interestingly, we can’t find any evidence of a LTE-only Galaxy A42, which makes us think that Samsung could bring mid-range 5G phones to a wider audience next year. Of course, a non-5G Galaxy A42 will no doubt be released as well. From what we hear, this device is going to feature 128GB of internal storage, which would be remarkable for a handset in this category, since the Galaxy A41 has 64GB of storage. It’s going to be available in gray, black and white colors.

5G-only handsets are compatible with 4G LTE networks so they can be used in markets where no 5G networks exist. However, Samsung has maintained a split so far by launching 5G and LTE-only variants. It did that for the entire Galaxy S20 lineup as well as for the Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71. Is it now moving towards a future where only 5G variants are released? This was bound to happen at some point.

As for the 2021 Galaxy A series and particularly the Galaxy A42 5G, it’s still early days. The new Galaxy A handsets won’t break cover until at least the end of this year so a lot could change between now and then. One thing’s for sure, though, Samsung will continue to bring down 5G’s barrier of entry.

Here’s how to enable the camera’s Motion Photo feature on One UI 2.0/2.1

Motion Photo is a camera feature that Samsung introduced to its phones back in 2016 with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Similar to Apple’s Live Photos, Motion Photo captures a few seconds of video before you tap the shutter button to take a photo. It gives you the ability to see and save that moment in moving form and also lets you to “pinpoint which moment you want to preserve as the still frame”, as Samsung puts it.

Initially, the Motion Photo feature was hidden in the camera settings on all Galaxy devices, but Samsung relocated the toggle for enabling and disabling the feature with One UI 2.0, leading some to think that it was removed. However, Motion Photo is still there: To enable it, you just have to hit its toggle in the camera viewfinder. It’s the icon of a rectangle with a play button, right next to the button that lets you change the aspect ratio of your photos, as you can see in the screenshot below.

one ui 2 motion photo

While the method of toggling Motion Photo on and off has changed, the feature itself works exactly the same as it has always done. You get up to 3 seconds of video leading up to the moment you tap the shutter button. It would be neat if Samsung would add the option to capture video before and after the shutter button is pressed, which is how Apple’s implementation of moving photos works, but given how long Motion Photo has been around, it’s unlikely Samsung has any plans to change things up.

Galaxy A50 starts getting July 2020 security update

The July 2020 Android security update started hitting select variants of the Galaxy A50. Identified by version number A505FNXXU5BTF5, the new firmware update debuted in Portugal, though it has yet to expand to any other country. Samsung appears to have bundled the security patch with some unrelated changes, which can be inferred from the aforementioned package name. With that said, seeing how the company still hasn’t released an official changelog, it remains to be seen whether those novelties include anything other than generic bug fixes, minor stability/performance improvements, or both.

It’s equally unclear how long the rollout will take to be completed, though Samsung’s firmware deployment periods tend to span at least several weeks.

Galaxy A50 getting more than just the latest security patch

Galaxy A50 owners who still haven’t received a notification prompting them to install the new update are able to attempt triggering the download manually by launching the smartphone’s Settings app, tapping Software update, and finally selecting the Download and install option on the following interface. As always, full images will be available for download directly from SamMobile‘s firmware archive shortly after Samsung starts rolling them out.

The security update dated July 1st has so far only made its way to select Galaxy S20 models, with that particular rollout starting last week. Owners of eligible devices are encouraged to download the update over a stable Wi-Fi connection and make sure their Galaxy A50 units are either sufficiently charged or charging while the installation is taking place so as to minimize the risk of technical issues.

Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition is coming soon to India

Samsung had unveiled the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition and the Galaxy Buds+ BTS Edition two weeks ago. Both the devices come in a purple finish and the BTS logo. The phone also comes with BTS-themed packaging and goodies (including themes and photo cards of BTS members). Now, the company has listed the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition on its Indian website.

Samsung India has also tweeted that the BTS-themed Galaxy S20+ will land in India next month, and the pre-booking for the phone will start from July 1. The pricing and availability of the limited-edition phone haven’t been revealed yet, but it is entirely possible that the device will be available from Samsung’s online shop. It could also be slightly costlier than other color variants of the Galaxy S20+.

The Galaxy S20+ is priced in India at INR 77,999. Currently, the phone is available in three colors—Cosmic Black, Cosmic Blue, and Cosmic Grey—and none of them are particularly flashy. So, the purple-colored Galaxy S20+ will certainly be a good addition to the lineup, especially for BTS fans in India (if any).

The Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition has already been announced for Brazil, France, Germany, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, and the UK. The company has not revealed its plans to launch the BTS Edition of the Galaxy Buds+ yet.

Samsung could report strong results for its chip business in Q2 2020

Samsung’s chip business has been its saving grace during the first quarter of this year, and it is likely to become a significant source for the company’s revenue for Q2 2020 as well. Analysts are expecting improved earnings from the South Korean tech giant’s chip business as more people have been studying and working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Market analysts are expecting Samsung to post KRW 50 trillion in sales and KRW 6 trillion in operating income. Despite falling smartphone and TV sales, analysts are expecting the company to post expectation-beating results due to a rise in memory chip prices as people are streaming media and making teleconferencing calls more than ever. The demand for memory chips as at an all-time peak from consumer products as well as servers and cloud infrastructure.

Market Tracker DRAMeXchange reports that contract prices for 8Gb DDR4 DRAM rose for five months straight, from $2.84 in January 2020 to $3.31 in May 2020. So, analysts predict that profit from Samsung’s chip business will exceed KRW 5 trillion in Q2 2020, up from KRW 4 trillion in Q1 2020. A sharp fall in revenue is expected from the company’s smartphones and display business arms.

While analysts had expected a further drop in the demand for smartphones during Q2 2020, market data shows signs of recovery in June. Kim Kyung-Min, an analyst with Hana Financial Investment, said that he is raising sales estimates for Samsung’s smartphones from 50 million to 55 million. The company had sold 59 million smartphones during Q1 2020. Samsung is expected to post an operating profit of KRW 9 trillion in the third quarter of this year.
