Verizon has started shipping the Galaxy Note 7

We reported earlier today that T-Mobile has stuck with tradition and is sending out Samsung’s latest flagship ahead of schedule. It appears that Verizon is getting in on the action as well. Several customers are reporting that they have received emails from Verizon confirming that they have been charged for the Galaxy Note 7 and that their orders have been shipped. They have received tracking numbers as well which enable them to track the journey their new handset takes before it lands on their doorstep.

Some customers have been given a scheduled delivery date up to two days ahead of the official release date of August 19. A few T-Mobile customers are expected to receive their units tomorrow and it won’t be surprising to see if some Verizon customers also receive their units ahead of schedule. T-Mobile has certainly made a habit of sending out new Samsung flagships early but Verizon doesn’t normally do this which is why Big Red’s customers must be excited this time around that their carrier is becoming a bit rebellious as well. If you ordered your unit from Verizon and have received delivery information do share with us in the comments below.

Analysts expect Samsung to post over $27 billion in operating profit this year

Samsung has posted a strong quarterly result in Q2 this year primarily because of the stellar performance of its mobile business that was greatly aided by the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge. The company itself expects that momentum to carry through into the third quarter and analysts are now forecasting that due to the demand for its smartphones, Samsung Electronics may post over $27 billion or 30 trillion won in operating profit for the year 2016.

If this happens, it would be the second time that Samsung’s operating profit tops 30 trillion won. It first happened back in 2013 when Samsung’s operating profit touched 36.785 trillion won. Market expectations of the year-end operating profit at the start of 2016 were at 23.26 trillion won and they inched up to 27.88 trillion won by the end of June. The recent quarterly results beat analyst expectations leading them to perform an upward revision in their estimates and suggest that Samsung could bring in as much as 30.58 trillion won in operating profit by the end of this year. Strong sales of the Galaxy S7 are expected to play a major part in this and the bottom line may also be helped by the recently announced Galaxy Note 7. Demand for the new phablet is so high that Samsung is having to delay the Galaxy Note 7 in several markets just to be able to meet demand.

Factory Reset Protection bypassed on all recent Samsung flagships

Many Android-powered handsets from Samsung have the Factory Reset Protection feature which should, at least in theory, make it impossible for someone to factory reset a misplaced or stolen device and either continue using it or sell it off after completely wiping it clean. Less than a year ago we came across a video which demonstrated just how easily FRP could be bypassed on Samsung devices in under ten minutes. A new video has now been posted online by the same person again demonstration how easily it still is to bypass Factory Reset Protection and that too on recent Samsung flagships like the Galaxy S7, it’s said that this method would even work on the Galaxy Note 7 as well.

Now there is a scenario where you would want to bypass FRP for purely legitimate reasons. For example, you want to sell your phone but can’t disable FRP because you no longer remember the credentials of the account you used to set it up with. You can’t wipe the handset clean and sell it off unless FRP is taken care of and in such a scenario this bypass method will be nothing short of a lifesaver. However, someone could just as easily use this method to sell stolen handsets after wiping them, so it really depends on the person how they use this method. The video details everything there is to know in order to bypass Factory Reset Protection on some of the greatest handsets Samsung has ever made. You would have thought that after last year’s episode the company would have made some changes to shore up the FRP’s defenses but clearly that’s not the case.

T-Mobile ships the Galaxy Note 7 ahead of schedule

T-Mobile appears to have made a habit of shipping Samsung flagships ahead of schedule. We saw this with the Galaxy S7 earlier this year and with the Galaxy S6 last year. Multiple customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Note 7 from T-Mobile are now reporting that Magenta has started charging their credit cards – which means that their orders have been processed – and some have even received emails mentioning that their units have been shipped. Those customers can expect to receive their units on Monday, August 15. The official release date of the Galaxy Note 7 in the United States is August 19.

It goes without saying that customers who are going to receive their units ahead of schedule will be very happy. It’s hard waiting even for a couple of days when you know that a brand new phone is on its way to you. Several customers have already received their tracking numbers from T-Mobile so the carrier has indeed shipped their units and they are likely to get it before August 19. Did you order your Galaxy Note 7 from T-Mobile? Do share in the comments below if you have also received confirmation from T-Mobile that your unit has shipped ahead of schedule.

You can now pre-order the new Gear VR from Amazon

We had been hearing rumors prior to the launch of the Galaxy Note 7 that Samsung was likely to introduce a new Gear VR headset as well. On August 2nd, the company did announce a new Gear VR headset that’s compatible with the Galaxy Note 7 as the new flagship features a USB Type-C port. Samsung is going to release the new Gear VR on August 19th and folks who want one can pre-order one now from Amazon.

One of the biggest changes that you will immediately notice is that the headset is now all-black as opposed to its previous black and white color scheme. It also features a redesigned trackpad, has a greater field of view and more cushioning. Even though it has been refreshed with the Galaxy Note 7 in mind the headset still supports the entire Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 series as well as the Galaxy Note 5 despite the fact that they don’t feature a USB Type-C port. The new Gear VR can now be pre-ordered from Amazon for $99 with shipments starting August 19th.

North Korean athletes reportedly never got their free Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Edition smartphones

Samsung is a major partner of the Olympics and it has gone all out this year to show its support for the games and use the opportunity that partnership affords to promote its products. The company has also created a limited edition Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Edition which it announced would be given for free to all 12,500 athletes competing in the games this year. According to a report, the athletes from North Korea never got their free handsets from Samsung.

The report mentions that it’s not Samsung’s fault that the athletes from North Korea didn’t get their free smartphones. Apparently an official accompanying the team went to Samsung’s office and collected all of the devices meant for North Korea’s 31 competing athletes. When DPRK athlete Kim Song I was asked by the scribe if she had received her free Samsung smartphone she is said to have shook her head.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the officials accompanying the team did confiscate the handsets given that it would possibly be a breach of protocol for the athletes to possess the devices, never mind the fact that they are made by Samsung which is based in DPRK’s arch rival, South Korea.
