This is one Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 leak you didn’t expect

We’ve seen renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, we’ve heard their specs, and we’ve heard about their surprisingly attractive pricing (thanks to our dependable sources) in various leaks in the past couple of months, but today’s “leak” is something entirely different, one that you don’t see very often.

A tipster on Twitter has revealed what could be… wait for it… the track that Samsung will use for the official introduction video of its new upcoming foldables! You know, those (usually) hip, upbeat songs that Samsung chooses every year to introduce its latest flagship to generate excitement? They’ll apparently make a comeback this year.

Same old upbeat music to sell you on Samsung’s newest flagships

Samsung has reportedly chosen the opening track from the The Great Showman, a movie starring Hugh Jackman, the guy who immortalized the character of Wolverine in the long-running X-Men film franchise. The song is called The Greatest Show, and it’s considerably more upbeat than the classical orchestral track Samsung selected for the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s so-called launch film last year.

At this point, the only thing that’s left for Samsung to do is announce the official prices for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, as everything else is more or less already out there for everyone to see. Well, we would also like to hear about the new software features Samsung will introduce to take advantage of the foldable form factor, though we’ll keep our fingers crossed that at least that information manages to stay under wraps until Samsung’s Unpacked event in August.

Check out the track from The Greatest Showman on Spotify or on YouTube.

New Galaxy S21 FE leak shows the pretty colors you’ll get to choose from

The Galaxy S21 FE may have been delayed, but that isn’t stopping the leaks. The folks over at Android Headlines have gotten their hands on an official looking render showcasing the Galaxy S21 FE 5G, revealing the range of colors prospective customers will get to choose from. Nothing new here, as we have seen renders of the phone in all of these shades before, but we do get further evidence that Samsung will not be offering as many color options for the Galaxy S21 FE as it did for the Galaxy S20 FE last year.

For those who may not remember, the Galaxy S20 FE came with a choice of no less than six different hues, with at least five of them launched in every market. It was the first time that Samsung got color availability right, but for reasons best known to the company, it doesn’t look like we’ll get the same variety this time around. The lack of a red version might be the most disappointing thing here, as we don’t see that color often enough in Samsung’s galactically large smartphone lineup.

This is a developing story…

July 2021 security update goes global with Galaxy Tab Active 2, S10e

Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and South Korea… someone did their homework again, haven’t they? What else to say but bravo for Samsung as the July 1st, 2021 security update is now confirmed to be releasing not just regionally, but internationally.

Following its yesterday’s debut in the heart of Europe, the very same firmware release has now also been sighted in the aforementioned countries. As expected, the very first builds appear to be targeting the entirety of the Galaxy S10 series. All four of its international models, that is: the Galaxy S10 (G973FXXSBFUF3), Galaxy S10e (G970FXXSBFUF3), Galaxy S10+ (G975FXXSBFUF3), and the Galaxy S10 5G (G977BXXS8FUF3).

Samsung’s hasn’t lost a step, even while being smack in the middle of vacation season

Additionally, joining these earliest of birds is the Galaxy Tab Active 2, of all devices. The Far Eastern variant of the device, at least, which is now receiving the update designated as the release T395NKOSCCUF2. That’s an Android 9 tablet we’re talking about – and a rugged one, at that. Definitely an unlikely joint-winner in the newly concluded race to the July 1st security update.

But Samsung knows better than anyone that the true race is only now beginning, as it seems to have greenlit a global rollout first thing this morning. Its other recent software releases might have been a bit earlier to start deploying but we’re in the middle of vacationing season following two years in isolation – Samsung losing half a step in these circumstances is very much understandable. Anyway, you know the drill: our firmware archives, whenever you’re ready. Assuming your particular device is already part of the rollout. Don’t worry, we’re keeping you posted.

Forget Galaxy Watch 4, check out this marvellous Galaxy Watch 5 concept

Given that Samsung is yet to unveil the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4, it is a tad too early to talk about its successor, the Galaxy Watch 5. However, that hasn’t stopped Meeco.kr from drawing up some stunning renders of the wearable. It also showcases some key changes Samsung could make with the Galaxy Watch 5’s design. One of the most prominent ones happens to be the absence of the rotating bezel. It also shows some brand new buttons that use a rounded aesthetic instead of the Galaxy Watch 3‘s flat design.

The Galaxy Watch 5 concept renders also show a toroidal design with the edges hollowed out. One of the buttons also doubles up as a slider, which could be a replacement of sorts for the rotating bezel. It also adds another moving part and hence an additional point of failure. While that will make for an interesting change, waterproofing such an element will be a design nightmare, so it is unlikely that the finished product will look like that. It does look gorgeous on paper, though.

We recently stumbled upon renders of the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, which showcased two entirely different designs. It seems that Samsung could be planning to further diversify its wearable portfolio, with the Galaxy Watch 4 being offered in both the vanilla and ‘classic’ variant and three different sizes. The latter will keep the rotating bezel for long-time fans of the wearables. Therefore, a Galaxy Watch 5 Classic could eventually be in the works, too, and it’ll be interesting to see how that turns out.

Galaxy Z Fold 3’s zoom camera won’t impress, but the ultra-wide camera will be better

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to offer various improvements over the Galaxy Z Fold 2, including a thinner and lighter design, a faster processor, and S Pen compatibility. Its camera setup is rumored to remain largely similar to its predecessor, though, and the phone might not impress most consumers. A new leak has now revealed the complete camera specs of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, shedding light on its improved ultrawide camera.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 camera specs, features

According to tipster @FrontTron, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 features a 12MP+12MP+12MP triple-camera setup on the rear. Its primary camera reportedly uses the Sony IMX555 (1/1.76-inch) sensor with dual-PDAF (phase-detection autofocus). The 12MP telephoto camera uses Samsung’s own ISOCELL 3M5 (1/3.6-inch) sensor with a 2x zoom lens and PDAF. The 12MP ultrawide camera uses the ISOCELL 3L6 (1/3.2-inch) sensor with PDAF.

The ultrawide camera’s autofocus mechanism should offer sharper images. It also helps the sensor in doubling up as a macro camera. This is similar to the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s ultrawide camera, but the Galaxy Z Fold 3 uses a smaller sensor. Still, there will likely be improvements in image and video quality, thanks to autofocus.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 has two selfie cameras: a 10MP camera (Sony IMX374 1/3.2-inch) on the cover display and a 16MP under-display camera (Sony IMX471 1/3.09-inch) hidden below the foldable screen. None of these front-facing cameras appear to feature autofocus. However, all the cameras on the foldable smartphone will likely support 4K 60fps video recording.

We think that Samsung could have used a better telephoto camera in its upcoming foldable flagship. Are you satisfied with the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s camera specs? Let us know in the comments section below.

Samsung Notes learned a new trick and… I’ve got nothing, is this thing useless or what?

Samsung Notes just received a pretty sizable update, MB-wise, but I’m afraid the “What’s New” section of the Galaxy Store is overselling things a bit right now. Maybe you’ll disagree, but I was promised the ability to “treat images as text”, quote-unquote. Imagine the possibilities, right?

Absolutely not, not right. Not unless your favorite thing to do with text is counting newlines and carriage returns as you’re slowly dozing away, thinking about the last 20 minutes of your life spent convincing yourself that this is, indeed, “it”, and… where were we?

This doesn’t take away from the already-excellent app that existed before this head-scratcher of an update

Right, the new Samsung Notes update. It’s terrible. Or terribly oversold, at least. And if you’re still wondering what a “carriage return” is, you’ll probably agree. Because the ability to chain visual media to text is hardly some breakthrough technology deserving of such an elaborate documentation effort. See? Now I’m complaining about a developer actually doing a marvelous job at documenting their exploits. That’s how terribly useless this ability to “anchor text” from an image is, on my end.

Adjustable highlighter transparency, though? That one is a different story. One that reminds me of the Windows 10 Photos app and its elemental editing toolset. In a good way, mind you. Fingers crossed that Samsung‘s software projects end up closer to Microsoft’s success in the space than… Samsung’s, I guess.

Anyway, the latest Samsung Notes build seems to be limited to the Galaxy Store, for the time being. Whereas the Google Play Store version of the app is still stuck on some late March or mid-April build, depending on your exact device. Go figure.

Samsung wants to catch up with Sony in the camera sensor business

Samsung and Sony are among the world’s biggest mobile camera sensor firms. Their products are used by almost all smartphone brands, including Apple, ASUS, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi. However, Sony (46%) still has a huge lead over Samsung (29%) in the global camera sensor market share, and the company is looking to minimize that lead.

System LSI, Samsung’s business arm that makes ISOCELL camera sensors, is planning to invest a huge sum of money to improve its product performance and widen its portfolio. The company could launch more advanced camera sensors over the next few years, including newer 50MP ISOCELL sensors to compete with Sony. It is being reported that Samsung is aiming to close the market share gap with Sony and place itself within a 10% difference from the Japanese firm.

Samsung started to aggressively launch more advanced camera sensors in 2018, with the launch of its 48MP and 64MP ISOCELL cameras. Later, it launched the world’s first 108MP camera sensor with an optical size of 1/1.33 inches. Earlier this year, Samsung launched an improved version of its 108MP sensor for more reliable focusing and better performance in low-light conditions. The company also launched the ISOCELL GN2 50MP sensor, which is among the world’s best right now.

In the future, the company will reportedly launch a 200MP ISOCELL camera sensor for smartphones. The upcoming sensor is said to feature 16-in-1 pixel binning and 8K video recording. Samsung had also hinted that it wants to make 600MP sensors in the future, but those could be targeted towards autonomous vehicles.

Galaxy A03s is a new budget phone and it’s now closer to launch

Samsung’s Galaxy A lineup is very robust. It includes premium mid-range devices like the Galaxy A72 and solid mid-rangers like the Galaxy A32. Several handsets in this range are now equipped with 5G connectivity as well.

The lineup also includes budget phones. Samsung has been working on a new device that will further expand the budget options. The Galaxy A03s is the new budget phone and it’s now one step closer to hitting the market.

Galaxy A03s will hit the market soon

We first heard about the Galaxy A03s in May. This device is the successor to the Galaxy A02s that was released last year. It’s a fairly basic device, as you’d expect. The device is rumored to feature a 6.5-inch display with a triple camera setup at the back. The major upgrades over the Galaxy A02s include a USB Type-C port and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

No further details are available at this point in time. It remains unclear what processor this device will have and how much RAM and storage will be available. The Galaxy A02s uses the Snapdragon 450 so it remains to be seen if Samsung will stick to a Snapdragon chip for its successor. The battery capacity is also not known.

The Galaxy A03s has now picked up its Bluetooth certification. This is usually taken as an indication of an impending launch. Obtaining the mandatory Bluetooth certification means that a regulatory hurdle has been cleared and the device can hit the market soon.

There obviously won’t be much fanfare for this device’s launch. Expect it to just become available in the coming weeks. We’ll let you know what that happens.

Samsung Q2 2021 earnings will receive major boost from chips

The chip business has long been Samsung’s cash cow. It earns the company billions of dollars every quarter. So even if other divisions see a dip in their projects, the chip business can more than make up for it.

It’s going to be a similar story for the second quarter of this year. Analysts are projecting a boost in Samsung’s Q2 2021 earnings on the back of the solid performance of its semiconductor division.

Smartphone shipments may have declined by over 20%

Market analysts in South Korea are predicting that Samsung will report strong second quarter earnings due to the stellar performance of the semiconductor business. The gains here will help offset the lukewarm performance of the mobile business.

The company is expected to post 11.2 trillion won or $9.9 billion in operating profit for the April-June 2021 period. This will be a 37.6 percent improvement compared to the same period last year. The figures stem from the data collected by 15 local brokerage houses compiled by Yonhap Infomax.

Price hikes for memory chips have helped Samsung. Higher prices have improved its margins and then increased profitability. Samsung’s DRAM average selling price increased by around 15 percent and NAND prices were up by 3 percent in the quarter. The normalization of the company’s foundry line in Austin, Texas has played a role.

The Texas fab had to be shut down for about a month due to a severe snowstorm that caused power and water outages in February. It only returned to full operations in April but the company had already suffered significant losses due to the outage.

Things aren’t looking up for the mobile business. Analysts expect that Samsung’s smartphone shipments may have declined by more than 20 percent compared to Q2 2020. That may have been due to a decline in demand in India as well as production disruption in Vietnam because of COVID19.

Samsung will release its Q2 2021 earnings guidance later this month. That’s going to give us a clearer picture before the full earnings results are released.

Galaxy S21 FE: Everything we know so far about the 2021 flagship killer

Samsung hit it out of the park with the launch of the Galaxy S20 FE last year. The Fan Edition device proved to be one of Samsung’s most successful of the year, so it’s only natural for the company to want to release a sequel this year and try to catch lightning in a bottle again.

Predictably, the sequel should be called the Galaxy S21 FE, and much like the predecessor did last year, the upcoming model should draw some inspiration from the premium Galaxy S lineup while maintaining a good value and a sub-flagship price.

There’s almost no doubt that Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy S21 FE this year. The company has at least indirectly-acknowledged that the phone exists when it accidentally mentioned it on the official Samsung Mexico portal this week.

Either way, Samsung will have a steep hill to climb if it wants the Galaxy S21 FE to become a worthy successor to the 2020 model, and the company does appear to have what it takes to achieve this, judging by all the leaks so far. Here’s an overview of everything we know:

Galaxy S21 FE design and color options

Much like the Galaxy S20 FE’s design was inspired by the premium Galaxy S20 trio of flagships, the upcoming Galaxy S21 FE is expected to adopt a new design language akin to the Galaxy S21.

Leaked press renders depicting the Galaxy S21 FE indicate that the phone will follow the same design principles as the Galaxy S21 series, particularly in regards to the camera housing. It wraps around the top and side edges of the device, and as a result, it look less like an afterthought.

SamMobile exclusively reported a couple of months ago that the Galaxy S21 FE will be released in at least four color options including gray/silver, pink, violet, and white. A fifth color — light green — was also discovered just a few weeks ago, along with a few camera details.

Galaxy S21 FE hardware and camera specifications

The Galaxy S21 FE is expected to carry a triple-camera combo on the back panel, though detailed specifications are unknown. As far as the selfie camera goes, it’s been reported that it should clock in at a resolution of 32MP, though only time will tell if it’s the same 32MP sensor that was used for the Galaxy S20 FE or an upgraded shooter.

There aren’t too many details on the hardware but battery details have emerged in mid-April. According to this data, the Galaxy S21 FE should be powered by a 4,500mAh battery, same as the Galaxy S20 FE.

Battery life could end up being better thanks to the adoption of components that have a higher energy-efficiency. The Galaxy S21 FE’s choice of chipsets hasn’t been confirmed yet but the phone could be offered with an Exynos 2100 and / or Snapdragon 888 SoC, and with two storage options: 128GB and 256GB.

The device is expected to have a 6.4 / 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a refresh rate of at least 90Hz, though 120Hz is a fairly safe bet given the fact that the Galaxy S20 FE already has this feature. Stereo speakers and an IP rating should also be par for the course.

Update: FCC certification for the Galaxy S21 FE suggests the phone will support 45W super fast charging, a feature that’s missing from even the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

When will the Galaxy S21 FE become available?

An alleged roadmap detailing Samsung’s launch plans for 2021 got leaked last month, and it suggests that the Galaxy S21 FE will be unveiled at a dedicated Unpacked event scheduled for August 19.

Leaked roadmaps may not always be a good source of accurate release date details, but what’s important to note about this particular roadmap is that it predicted the date of the Galaxy Book Unpacked event with pinpoint accuracy. This lends a bit more credibility to the idea that August 19 is the day when Samsung will reveal the Galaxy S21 FE to the world.

Pricing details remain unknown but the company is expected to stay true to the FE lineup and release the upcoming model within the so-called “flagship-killer” price range.

Update: The latest rumors say the Galaxy S21 FE has been delayed and might not even launch in some markets thanks to the global chip shortage, though it’s also said that the latter could be fixed by Samsung focusing on using the Exynos 2100 chipset in markets other than the US and Europe.

Best Samsung Phones in July 2021 – Picked by experts

Given the sheer number of devices that it releases every year, finding the best Samsung phones can often prove to be a challenge for most customers. It doesn’t matter if you want a flagship or a budget device. Samsung offers plenty of options for all price ranges.

To make it easier for you to find the one that best suits your needs, our expert reviewers have created this list of the best Samsung smartphones. We’ll explain precisely why a device has made it on to our list and provide you with links to their detailed reviews. This will help you cut through the noise and really find out what is the best Samsung phone.

Our Best Samsung Phone List For July 2021

Our list for July 2021 has a great mix of devices, helped by the launch of Samsung’s new Galaxy S21 series. We have also included some of the good Samsung phones in the mid-range and affordable categories that are currently available.

Best Samsung Phone – Spec monster: Galaxy S21 Ultra

The Galaxy S21 Ultra has big shoes to fill. It follows the Galaxy S20 Ultra which was Samsung’s everything and the kitchen sink phone. Last year’s flagship was packed to the gills with the best that Samsung had to offer. It’s a similar story for the Galaxy S21 Ultra as it remains the company’s undisputed spec monster.

Samsung’s latest high-end flagship features a 6.8-inch display with a 10Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The Galaxy S21 Ultra is capable of hitting the 120Hz refresh rate at the highest WQHD+ resolution. Depending on the market, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will be available with an Exynos 2100 or Snapdragon 888 chipset. It’s paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. No external expansion is possible as the device doesn’t have a microSD card slot.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra retains its predecessor’s 5,000mAh battery. It does get an updated camera setup which includes two telephoto (zoom) cameras capable of achieving 100x Space Zoom. It also gets a whole host of new software features that take full advantage of the camera setup’s capabilities.

There’s even support for the S Pen. The Galaxy S21 Ultra is the first non-Note Galaxy device to get the S Pen. However, one doesn’t ship with the device. You’ll need to buy it separately in addition to a case that lets you carry the S Pen because it doesn’t slide inside the smartphone.

Samsung has once again set the benchmark for the rest of the Android manufacturers. This handset will remain the best Galaxy phone to be released this year. No other Samsung handset due in 2021 will have the kind of specs that this does. Looking beyond what’s under the hood, the Galaxy S21 Ultra also has exceptional build quality and a great design.

Reasons to buy: Powerful cameras, great battery life, exceptional display and top-notch performance.

Who should buy: Loyal Samsung fans, mobile gaming enthusiasts, mobile photographers and vloggers.

Best Samsung Phone – Productivity: Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

There’s no question about it, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra tops our list as the best Samsung phone for productivity. Samsung has made a number of meaningful improvements to its latest flagship smartphone, particularly the S Pen upgrades. The S Pen latency has been dropped to 9ms in order to provide a more fluid and natural experience with the stylus.

The 6.9-inch Galaxy Note 20 Ultra also comes with the latest in smartphone technology as well as 5G support. It happens to be the first Samsung smartphone to feature a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate display.

This is actually the first time that a Samsung phone has had a variable refresh rate. The Galaxy Note 20’s display switches between 10Hz, 30Hz, 60Hz and 120Hz. It depends on whatever’s being shown on the screen. This is done to save power by not using the maximum refresh rate in circumstances where it’s not necessary. Pretty neat.

Samsung has also significantly improved the camera setup compared to its predecessor. There are several new software features and new camera modes that enable customers to get the most out of this $1,299 flagship. All of this makes the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra stand out as one of the top Samsung phones of 2021.

Reasons to buy: Best display on a smartphone, wireless DeX, gorgeous design, enhanced camera functionality and great battery life.

Who should buy: Customers who want the latest Samsung phones, power users, mobile gamers, vloggers and content creators.

Best Samsung Phone – Compact: Galaxy S20 FE

Samsung is out with a new Fan Edition model this year. The Galaxy S20 FE packs many of the best features of the Galaxy S20 series into a more compact package. It uses the same flagship-level chipsets, a 120Hz refresh rate display and a respectable 4,500mAh battery. Samsung has replaced the glass back with plastic and that’s actually a good thing.

The 6.5-inch flat display is great for those who don’t particularly like curved displays. The two 12-megapixel cameras offers similar results as the Galaxy S20+ and it even comes with an 8-megapixel telephoto camera that provides 3x lossless optical zoom. Samsung has also confirmed that it will receive three years of Android OS upgrades. For all of the amazing tech that it offers, the $699 price tag for the 5G variant of the Galaxy S20 FE makes it one of the best value Samsung phones to buy this year.

It’s a good move by the company to offer the Galaxy S20 FE. This enables it to compete against rivals that offer premium, near-flagship like devices for far less than what a traditional flagship would cost. The Galaxy S20 FE allows Samsung to go after those customers as well. That’s what makes it worthy of a place among the top rated Samsung phones of the year.

Reasons to buy: Great design, well-built, great performance, flat AMOLED display and three years of OS upgrades.

Who should buy: Customers who want a flagship-level phone for less, those who don’t want to be worried about breaking the glass back.

Best Samsung Phone – Foldable: Galaxy Z Fold 2

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the latest and greatest foldable smartphone from Samsung. It brings some major improvements compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Fold. This includes a larger 6.2-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch Infinity Flex display that’s made of Ultra-Thin Glass and has a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. The design has been improved as well and the hinge is now more durable. It even gets Flex Mode which allows the hinge to free stand at different angles so that the phone can effectively become its own tripod. You can even wirelessly charge it like that!

Under the hood, you’ll find the Snapdragon 865+ processor with 12GB RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The top-notch specs make the device a bona fide flagship smartphone and its unique form factor just adds to its appeal. The cameras aren’t exceptional by any means but they are enough to get the job done for most users. There’s tons of new functionality, though, which takes full advantage of the large screen.

It goes without saying that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 deserves a place on this list. It’s truly shaping up to be one of the best Samsung phones ever made.

Reasons to buy: Unique form factor, stylish design, great performance and useful features.

Who should buy: Power users, loyal Samsung fans, hype beasts and influencers.

Why These Are The Best Samsung Phones This Month

Samsung’s strategy has long been to offer something for everyone. We now have one of Samsung’s most diverse smartphone lineups. You have an absolute spec king in the Galaxy S21 Ultra to the extent of being over the top. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is certainly one of the best Note devices yet from Samsung as it builds on the feedback from Note loyalists and provides them with improvements they have long been asking for.

The Galaxy Z Flip is in a league of its own when it comes to foldable smartphones. There’s really no true successor for it on the market yet. It’s also a refreshingly unique device, perfect for those who are fed up with the monotony of smartphone design. The Galaxy S20 FE may have been out for almost a year now but it’s still a great value for the kind of specs it offers.

Samsung has capitalized on the Galaxy A50’s popularity for the Galaxy A51 and made it a worthy successor. Now, the Galaxy A52 is one of the best mid-range smartphones on the market. The Galaxy A52 does everything that you’d expect a device of its caliber to do without breaking a sweat. Lastly, customers won’t have much to complain about with the Galaxy A32. It’s incredibly clear in its purpose and because of that, it’s worthy of being on this list.

What is the newest Samsung phone? – July 2021

It has often been difficult to keep track of the newest Samsung phone given that the company releases so many throughout the year. Samsung has dozens of models across different series which cater to all price ranges. This page will be updated on a monthly basis to ensure that you can always know what is the newest Samsung phone in each series.

The latest Galaxy Phone in every series

Galaxy Z Fold 2

The highly anticipated successor to the original Galaxy Fold has finally been unveiled. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 was made official alongside the new Galaxy Note lineup on August 5. Samsung will start taking pre-orders for the device from September 1. That’s also when the company revealed more details about the device.

It comes with a larger 6.3-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch foldable display at 120Hz refresh rate. The internal display is more durable as its made out of Ultra Thin Glass. It gets flagship-level internals including the Snapdragon 865+ with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Check our Galaxy Z Fold 2 specs page for the detailed specs of this device.

The camera setup of this device includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor paired with a 12-megapixel ultra wide and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is available for pre-order now and will be released on September 18. It costs $1,999 and is offered in Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze color options.

Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung’s second foldable smartphone wasn’t launched as part of its Galaxy Fold series. The company decided to launch it as the Galaxy Z Flip instead. The Galaxy Z Flip was released in February 2020 and has quickly become one of the most highly sought after foldable smartphones on the market, and for good reason.

As we point out in our Galaxy Z Flip review, the device feels surprisingly normal despite the fact that it can fold in half into something you can easily wrap your hand around. It features 2019 flagship-level specs with a Snapdragon 855+ processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. There’s also a 12-megapixel f/1.8 wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide camera at the back. Selfie duties are handled by a 10-megapixel f/2.4 camera embedded in a punch hole in the 6.7-inch foldable display. It also has a combined battery capacity of 3,300mAh.

The Galaxy Z Flip is available far more widely than the Galaxy Fold was. It costs $1,380 and comes in three colors – Mirror Purple, Mirror Black and in select markets, Mirror Gold.

Galaxy Note

August is Galaxy Note month and right on cue, Samsung has unveiled two new handsets this time around as well. The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are now official and available for pre-order. They’ll go on sale come August 21.

There are some major differences between the two models. The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra feature a 6.7-inch flat FHD+ display and a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ curved display with dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. The former doesn’t have a microSD card slot while the latter does. Both don’t support 45W super fast charging, maxing out at 25W instead.

While the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra retains the signature metal and glass build that Samsung flagships have become familiar far, the Galaxy Note 20 only gets a plastic back. That’s a surprising decision Samsung has made this year, in addition to not offering 120Hz refresh rate on the smaller handset.

They also use the same Exynos 990/Snapdragon 865+ chipsets with the Note 20 only getting 8GB RAM while the Ultra gets a 12GB RAM configuration as well with up to 512GB of storage. Check out our hands-on to learn more about these phones and visit our devices page for the full Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra specs.

Prices start at $999 and $1,299 for the 5G Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra respectively.

Galaxy S

Samsung unveiled its highly anticipated flagship lineup for 2021. The newest Samsung phones in the Galaxy S lineup are now the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and the Galaxy S21 Ultra. All three handsets are powered by the Exynos 2100/Snapdragon 888 chipset depending on the region. Samsung is offering different RAM and storage options on the variants.

The display supports adaptive refresh rate and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Samsung has also revamped the design with a new Contour Cut camera housing that adds a touch of class to the device. It has taken away expandable storage, though, so there’s no microSD card slot on the entire lineup.

The Galaxy S21 is the entry-level device and also the smallest of them all. It features a 6.2-inch FHD+ flat display. Samsung has opted for a plastic back on this device instead of glass. Its camera setup includes a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide, 12-megapixel f/1.8 wide with OIS and 64-megapixel telephoto f/2.0 camera with OIS and 3x zoom. There’s also a 10-megapixel front camera. A 4,000mAh battery keeps the lights on with support for 25W fast charging. The Galaxy S21 is available in 128/256GB storage with 8GB of RAM.

Samsung has given the Galaxy S21+ a larger 6.7-inch FHD+ display. It also gets a flat panel but has glass on the back instead of plastic. This device has the same camera setup as the Galaxy S21. It’s also offered in 128/256GB storage capacities with 8GB of RAM. The Galaxy S21+ has a slightly larger 4,800mAh battery compared to its predecessor.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra is Samsung’s ultimate flagship. It comes with a 6.8-inch WQHD+ curved display that supports 120Hz refresh rate at the highest resolution. The camera setup puts the device in a league of its own. There’s Samsung’s latest 108-megapixel primary sensor, 12-megapixel ultra-wide and two 10-megapixel telephoto cameras with 3x and 10x optical zoom.

The handset offers an impressive 100x Space Zoom. A laser autofocus module is present as well. There’s a 40-megapixel camera up front for selfies. The Galaxy S21 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery and is available in 128/256/512GB storage with up to 16GB of RAM.

Samsung has slightly reduced the prices for its 2021 flagship lineup. The Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and the Galaxy S21 Ultra start at $799, $999 and $1,199 respectively. The devices went on sale January 29. Check out Galaxy S21/Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra hands-on for our thoughts on the new devices.

Galaxy Fan Edition

Samsung has brought back the Fan Edition moniker and has also confirmed that it will release new Fan Edition models of its flagships every year. It’s kicking things off with the Galaxy S20 FE which is being marketed as a flagship in its own right.

Unveiled in September 2020, the Galaxy S20 FE brings many of the best features that were introduced with the Galaxy S20 lineup earlier this year. It gets a 6.5-inch FHD+ flat 120Hz refresh rate display, the same Exynos 990/Snapdragon 865 chipset, stereo speakers, a large 4,500mAh battery and three years of Android OS upgrades.

The Galaxy S20 FE also comes with a triple-camera system at the back which includes a 12-megapixel wide and 12-megapixel sensor in addition to an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 30x Space Zoom. A 32-megapixel camera is present up front.

Samsung is now selling the Galaxy S20 FE. Prices start at $699 for the 5G variant in the United States.

Galaxy A

Samsung has significantly expanded its Galaxy A series over the past couple of years. It now offers over a dozen smartphones across all price ranges. You can get a entry level device like the Galaxy A10 and a 5G-capable device like the Galaxy A90 5G.

The Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G and the Galaxy A72 are the latest Galaxy devices in this series. Samsung has launched its revamped mid-rangers recently. It has made substantial upgrades under the hood in addition to a more refined design.

Featuring a 6.5-inch 90Hz refresh rate display, the Galaxy A52 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G chipset with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. The handset comes with a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. The 5G variant gets a 120Hz refresh rate display and the Snapdragon 750G chipset.

The camera setup includes a 64-megapixel optically stabilized main sensor paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, 5-megapixel depth and 5-megapixel macro camera. A 32-megapixel front camera is present as well. Prices for the Galaxy A52 start at €349.

The Galaxy A72 comes with a 6.7-inch 90Hz refresh rate display, a Snapdragon 720G processor with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The lights are kept on by a 5,000mAh battery that has support for 25W fast charging.

In the camera department, you get a 64-megapixel primary sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical and up to 30x digital zoom, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide as well as a 5-megapixel macro camera. There’s also a 32-megapixel selfie camera upfront. Prices start at €449.

Galaxy M

Samsung introduced its Galaxy M lineup earlier this year. It’s a new budget lineup aimed primarily at India with features that were previously never seen on devices in this price range from Samsung. The series is also unique in that Samsung only sells the Galaxy M devices online.

The Galaxy M42 5G is now the latest handset in this series. It’s the first Galaxy M-branded smartphone to feature 5G connectivity. The handset is now available in India. It features a 6.6-inch Infinity-U display with HD+ resolution. The Snapdragon 750G resides under the hood with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. It runs full-fledged One UI with version 3.1 onboard. Previous Galaxy M handsets have used the lightweight One UI Core. A 5,000mAh battery keeps the lights on with support for 15W charging.

The quad-camera setup of this device includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide, 5-megapixel macro and 5-megapixel depth camera. There’s also a 20-megapixel selfie camera.

Bear in mind that this list only tells you about the newest Samsung phone in every series, not what’s the best in a given price range. It’s to show you what the latest phone is so that you know what to look out for when buying a new Samsung smartphone.
