Latest Galaxy Note 6 render leak reveals dual-edge display

Earlier today, we came across a 3D render of the Galaxy Note 6/Note 7 which revealed quite a bit about the upcoming Samsung flagship. A separate leak is now giving us a different (if not better) look of the phablet. We can clearly see here that the handset has dual-edges, which is in line with what the previous reports had talked about.

Whether it’s called the Galaxy Note 6 or the Note 7 is anybody’s guess right now, but there might be some truth to the rumors that the next Note flagship will feature an ‘edge’ display. The source @ShaiMizrachi has been pretty accurate with previous leaks (Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S7 etc), so there’s no reason to doubt the authenticity of this particular leak.

The handset is revealed to be 7.8mm thick, suggesting that the thickness will be slightly more than the predecessor (7.6mm). This is understandable as Samsung has to accommodate an edge display here and possibly a larger battery too. The device will be 153mm tall and 74.5mm wide, which is an improvement over the Galaxy Note 5 (153.2mm x 76.1mm). A previous rumor had indicated that the Galaxy Note 6 will be unveiled by the 2nd of August, so we might not have much waiting to do.

Leaked Galaxy Note 6 blueprints show off a very familiar design

There’s a lot of speculation these days about Samsung’s next flagship handset and we can expect to see more leaks and rumors until this handset is officially announced. Today, alleged blueprints of the Galaxy Note 6 have been leaked online. They reveal that this handset has a very familiar design in that it looks quite similar to the Galaxy S7 edge, coming in at 153.5mm x 73.9mm x 7.9mm.

The blueprints also make it seem that the Galaxy Note 6 is going to have a USB-C port instead of a conventional USB port, if that turns out to be true this is going to be the first Samsung smartphone to make the switch to the modern USB standard. The S Pen retains its aperture at the bottom right-hand corner of the device. It’s also claimed that the concentration of sensors visible above the display points towards the iris scanner which will enable users to unlock the device just by looking at it. Samsung has never before put an iris scanner in a consumer device so this just may be yet another first for the Galaxy Note 6.

It was recently rumored that an edge variant of this flagship is in the pipeline as well. We’ve yet to see any leaks that give hope that a curved-display variant of the new Galaxy Note will be launched soon. Recent reports have also suggested that perhaps Samsung is going to call its next flagship the Galaxy Note 7 instead of the Galaxy Note 6, and it’s now being speculated that perhaps the normal variant will be called the Galaxy Note 6 while Samsung will choose the brand the edge variant as the Galaxy Note 7. All of this is speculation at this point in time and nothing has been officially confirmed. Samsung is expected to unveil its Next Big Thing by early August.

MetroPCS to launch the Galaxy On5 in the US on June 27

If a leaked pricing grid shared by PocketNow is anything to go by, it looks like MetroPCS, T-Mobile’s prepaid subsidiary, is preparing to bring the Galaxy On5 to the United States. At present the handset, which made its debut back in October 2015, is only available in the Asian market, but the carrier appears to believe there’s a strong demand for a budget-friendly 5-inch smartphone in its home region as it will be adding the device to its lineup on Monday, June 27 where it’ll be available to purchase for just $60.

Don’t be put off by the Galaxy On5′s low price tag, though. It’s still a capable handset, and we’d recommend it for anyone who doesn’t need a phone sporting the latest and greatest specifications. Under the hood, it packs a 1.3GHz in-house Exynos 3475 quad-core processor, a Mali-T720 GPU, 1.5GB of RAM, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP selfie snapper and a 2,600mAh removable Li-Ion battery that’ll last for around 15-hours of intermediate use on a stable 3G/4G cellular connection.
