Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge will be launched in South Korea tomorrow

Samsung officially announced the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge just last week. It said that this sixth color edition of its flagship smartphone will be available in select markets across the globe starting November 1. The company says that it was inspired by nature to create this color and that it “shimmers as if it is illuminated from the inside of the phone’s glass surface.” It follows Samsung’s 2016 color trends which are more tranquil and less vivid. The company today confirmed that it’s going to launch the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge in its home country of South Korea tomorrow.

Since there’s nothing fundamentally different about this phone it costs the same as the Galaxy S7 edge in any other color. Customers who are interested in picking one up can buy the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge with either 32GB or 64GB of storage. All three major carriers in the country – SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus – will be selling this handset. Customers in the United States can expect to get their hands on the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge starting November 18. If you want to see more live images of this handset, don’t forget to check out our Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge unboxing post.

Samsung may soon start making its own fingerprint sensors

Samsung is one of the biggest players in the mobile semiconductor industry and now it’s looking to break into the fingerprint chip market. Industry watchers believe that Samsung wants a piece of the market that’s more or less cornered by Sweden’s FPC and US-based Synaptics as it sees major growth in the years to come. Several small to medium companies in South Korea are also doing the same so there’s all the more reason for Samsung to jump in as well.

Samsung Electronics’ System LSI division is believed to be involved in the development of fingerprint sensor chips since last year. It’s apparently in the final stages of development and will be able to commercialize these chips starting next year. The short-term goal is to supply them for Samsung’s own low and mid-range smartphones before also fulfilling requirements for premium lineups like the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. The chips will eventually be sold to other smartphone manufacturers, Samsung already supplies all sorts of components including but not limited to display panels, processors, mobile RAMs, flash storage, and more.

The Korean giant currently sources fingerprint sensors for its smartphones from Synaptics. It will be able to bring down its costs by sourcing them from a sister company. The company will develop its own chip while it will source the necessary algorithm from Precise Biometrics in Sweden and for modules it will lean on existing relationships in the CMOS image sensor industry. A fingerprint recognition system requires these three components to function.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed any plans to enter the fingerprint chip market as yet so take this with a grain of salt until there’s some clarity on the matter.

Pink Galaxy S7 out now but only in South Korea

It was reported a couple of days ago that Samsung was gearing up to launch a new pink smartphone, we’ve found out for sure today that it’s not an entirely new device, it’s just a new color option for the Galaxy S7. Samsung has now started selling the Pink Galaxy S7 in South Korea. This is not the same color as Pink Gold which is already out and available in several markets, and if you happen to be curious, here’s what it’s like spending a month with Samsung’s pink gold “ladyphone.”

This is just pure pink without any of the lustre that gold adds. What’s interesting to note is that Samsung is only offering this color option with the Galaxy S7 and not with the Galaxy S7 edge and it’s only available with the 32GB model of the handset. Everything else remains the same so it’s still the same Galaxy S7 that we all know and love, just with a fresh coat of paint. Samsung is yet to confirm whether this color option is going to be offered with the Galaxy S7 edge as well and if the Pink Galaxy S7 is ever going to make its way out of South Korea.

Samsung officially announces launch of Android 7.0 Nougat Galaxy Beta Program

We’ve known for a few days now that Samsung is going to kick off the Galaxy Beta Program once again to enable users in select markets to get a taste of the upcoming major Android update. The company first introduced this program with the launch of Android 6.0 Marshmallow last year. This year, it will offer them the opportunity to take a beta version of Android 7.0 Nougat out for a spin on their Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

The Galaxy Beta Program is now open to Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners in the United States, United Kingdom, South Korea and will soon be opened up for users in China as well. Interested users first have to register, Samsung is currently accepting applicants on a first come, first served basis.

Throughout the Galaxy Beta Program period, the end date of program is going to differ by country and may be subject to change as well, users to be able to truly experience Android 7.0 Nougat with Samsung’s new UX and provide the company with feedback that will help improve the experience. Those who are interested in taking part in this program must have an active Samsung Account and they must program requirements. If they do, they then have to download the Galaxy Beta Program app from Galaxy Apps or the Samsung Members app.

In case you’re wondering what Nougat looks like running on one of the two supported devices, we’ve already got it running on our Galaxy S7, and here’s what we think about Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy S7 so far.

Firmware based on Android 7.0 beta for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge leaked

Earlier today, we announced that we had a beta Android 7.0 Nougat firmware that we’ve installed on a Galaxy S7. With that, we also compiled a gallery of screenshots to give you an idea of how it would look. From our interaction, the new UX provided a clean, smooth and intuitive experience.

For Galaxy S7/S7 Edge users that would like to test it out for themselves, Choimobile have leaked out new firmware for both models. The S7 version is titled G930FXXU1ZPK4 and the S7 Edge version is G935FXXU1ZPK4.

As a disclaimer, please flash at your own risk. We advise not to flash because the firmware is not fully stable and could potentially cause harm to your device. Strongly recommend waiting til the official update rolls out.

As an added bonus, Samsung just pushed out an OTA update for all beta users in the UK.

Check out these pictures of the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge unboxing

We heard last month that Samsung might release the Galaxy S7 edge in Blue Coral, a color option that it introduced with the Galaxy Note 7 a couple of months ago. Samsung officially announced the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge about a week back and it has already been released in some markets. We’ve previously seen live images of the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge and they show just how cool this device looks, we now have the unboxing pictures for you.

Since the color is the only differentiating factor here, everything else remains the same. It comes in the same box as any other Galaxy S7 edge and has similar specs, but you’ve got to admit, it’s just great to see a brand new Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge fresh out the box. Samsung has introduced this color option for the Galaxy S7 edge right around the holiday season. It’s certainly looking to reignite consumer interest in the device even though the successor is just a couple of months away. However, I’m quite sure many will just won’t be able to resist picking up a Galaxy S7 edge in Blue Coral.

We’ve got Android 7.0 Nougat beta running on a Galaxy S7 [Screenshots]

Samsung has announced an Android 7.0 Nougat beta program for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge. The program is open to those who own this handset in select countries but so far the beta firmware has not been rolled out as only registrations for the program are being taken right now. We already have a beta Android 7.0 Nougat firmware that we’ve installed on a Galaxy S7 – version G930FXXU1ZPK1 – so we can now share all that’s new in this much-awaited major Android update for Samsung devices.

We’ve observed that the New UX that will be introduced with Nougat feels very smooth. Samsung has also added some new animations that flow seamlessly. The user interface actually feels like a mix of the Grace UX that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy Note 7 and the New UX developed for Nougat. The new font looks pretty cool as well, it’s the company’s new universal font called SamsungOne.

A blue light filter is baked right into the software which many of us who like to use our smartphones in bed will certainly like. Samsung has also added four new modes to tailor software performance – Normal, Game, Entertainment and High Performance – depending upon whatever the device is being used for at that particular time. Aside from a new Always On Display, the OS comes with a new Device Maintenance feature which provides an overall rating of device performance and even lets users take certain steps to further optimize performance.

We’ve posted dozens of screenshots down below to give you a proper look at the upcoming major Android update for Samsung devices. Note that some screenshots have different resolutions due to varying performance modes used.

What do you think about this new look and feel that Samsung has created as part of the Android 7.0 Nougat update? Do let us know by leaving a comment below.
