Some quick toggles automatically disappearing from the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge

Many who own the Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy S6 edge have taken to social media to voice their displeasure over the disappearance of some quick toggles from their devices. Multiple reports suggest that a large number of Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners are missing either one or all of the toggles that trigger mobile data, hotspot and private mode. No one really knows why this is happening, the handsets shipped with these toggles and seeing as how they correspond to some very important functions it wouldn’t make any sense for Samsung to remove them altogether.

There’s no official fix for this just yet though reports claim that Samsung has acknowledged this issue through customer support, some of the company’s regional Twitter accounts have acknowledged it as well. At least one regional account offered a temporary solution which involves backing up important data and performing a factory reset on the device. While it brings back the toggles, it doesn’t reduce the possibility that those toggles simply won’t disappear again, and it will prove to be a nuisance for users if they have to perform a factory reset every single time that this happens.

Some XDA forum members believe that this is happening due to a software feature that’s gone rogue, so to speak, that it’s automatically removing toggles that users haven’t used in over 30 days. That doesn’t seem to be true though since many of the people lamenting the loss of these toggles are the people who heavily rely on them during daily use. Samsung is yet to provide a fix for this issue, or an explanation for that matter, we’ll keep our eyes and ears open for more information.

Latest Galaxy S6 promo is all about mobile gaming

Samsung is releasing a promo for the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge almost every other week, often it highlights many of the features that the devices offer though that doesn’t mean it’s giving up on iPhone bashing altogether, that has factored into Galaxy S6 promos as well. The marketing push for Samsung’s flagship smartphones continues with a new promo that was put up on the Samsung Mobile YouTube channel, this one is all about high-definition mobile gaming.

You might be well aware by now that the Galaxy S6′s hardware package enables it to provide a stellar mobile gaming experience, not to mention the unique viewing experience that you get if you’ve picked up the Galaxy S6 edge, the 5.1-inch Quad HD 2560×1440 pixel resolution display is certainly something to write home about. Realistically though, mobile gaming is the battery’s enemy and since the Galaxy S6 doesn’t have a removable battery you might want to be close to a charger if you’re already low on charge before kicking off the gaming session. The fixed onboard storage might prove to be a hindrance as well if you’re someone who likes to install a lot of storage intensive games on the device, but that in no way diminishes the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge’s ability to provide an amazing high-definition mobile gaming experience.

Samsung teams up with GQ and Vogue to create fashion campaign featuring Galaxy S6 and S6 edge

Samsung has been on a marketing blitz for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge, from the looks of things the company doesn’t mean to stop any time soon. From outlining the handsets’ features to outright bashing the iPhone for not being up to the mark, Samsung has used multiple methods to market its latest creations. The company has now teamed up with popular fashion publications Vogue and GQ to create global fashion native campaigns featuring the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge.

Vogue and GQ are among the most popular fashion magazines on the planet so it makes sense for Samsung to go with them for this particular campaign, millions of people around the world solely rely on these publications for their fashion fix. With technology increasingly being positioned as fashionable accessories it’s no surprise that Samsung has taken this route to further promote the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. Images from the campaign show models posing alongside the devices as well as shots of the Galaxy S6 edge placed close to other luxury accessories such as branded shades and luxury watches.

Samsung SM-G150N shows up, could be the Galaxy Young 3

A new Samsung handset, carrying model number SM-G150N, seems to be nearing an official release. The SM-G150N has recently been certified by the Bluetooth SIG, listed in the IMEI database, and been sent to India for testing. No name is attached to the device at the moment, but it could be the Galaxy Young 3 as the Galaxy Young 2 – launched last year – had the model number SM-G130.

On the import tacker website Zauba, the SM-G150N is listed with varying pricing (starting from $99), suggesting that development on the device is at a stage where different models are being tested. A 3.8-inch screen should be part of the spec sheet according to the import database (the final screen size could change to a more standard 4-inch or 3.5-inch), though other hardware details are pretty much non-existent at this point. The device might not be called the Galaxy Young 3 when it is released, but we can be sure that it will feature some extremely low-end specs.

Samsung Galaxy Tab E, an affordable 9.6-inch tablet, is now official

Samsung’s newest affordable tablet, the Galaxy Tab E, is now official. The company trademarked this device earlier this year, and its press renders was leaked last week. Now that the device is officially introduced, at least in Taiwan for the time being, let’s have a look at its specifications and features.

The Galaxy Tab E (SM-T560) features a 9.6-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels and runs Android 4.4 KitKat instead of Lollipop. All the processing heavy lifting is carried out by 1.3GHz quad-core processor (possibly a Spreadtrum SC7730SE). There’s 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, along with a microSD card slot. Power is supplied by a non-removable 5,000 mAh battery. It’s a Wi-Fi only device, but Samsung will most probably launch another variant (SM-T561) with cellular connectivity in the near future.

It is currently priced at $225 in Taiwan, and will hit the retail shelves by the end of this month. There is no information regarding its launch plans or availability outside of Taiwan, but as soon as there’s something new, we will let you know about it.

Galaxy S6 Active survives 12-foot drop and waterproofing tests

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are devices that are stunning and beautiful, no doubt. With Samsung’s use of airplane metal and Gorilla Glass 4 for its build materials, coupled with the cutting-edge specs that Samsung likes to put in its devices (we’re thinking of the DDR4 RAM here), the company has made a phone that is not only functional, but beautiful. Samsung’s smartphones have always been beautiful, but we here at SamMobile are glad to see that we’re not the only ones who agree.

The Galaxy S6 Active often arrives to the market later than its “risky” sibling, the Galaxy S6, but the wait is well worth it. A new S6 Active drop test seeks to answer the question for AT&T users: is it worthwhile to drop your money on this smartphone?

Galaxy S6 Active 12-foot drop

In a word, YES! In the 12-foot drop test, YouTube member Jeremy Judkins dropped his GS6 Active from 12-feet above floor level. He climbed up to the top of a six-foot ladder, then placed the device above his head (he says he’s about six-feet tall) before he dropped it straight onto the floor. The Galaxy S6 Active didn’t even flinch and remained flawless.

Galaxy S6 Active records video underwater

Jeremy performed two waterproofing tests on the GS6 Active. First, he dunked the phone in his fish tank and took pictures while the phone remained underwater. In the second waterproofing test, he examined the hydrophobic nature of the device. Unlike most smartphones that have to fight to escape the water often poured on top, Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Active could eliminate the water on its screen easily. The water couldn’t cling to the smartphone display with the new water and dust-resistant device. In addition to these, Jeremy also tested the device’s video recording capabilities while the device was fully submerged underwater.

You can watch Jeremy’s videos for yourself at the link below, but the spoiler of it all is that AT&T customers will be extremely happy with their new purchase decision. Not only is the GS6 Active water and dust-resistant, but it also takes great 16MP photos and has crystal-clear Ultra HD (near-4K) video recording. As excellent of a device as this is, we sure wish Samsung would break the exclusive carrier tradition it has with AT&T and give all its customers the opportunity to own this best-in-class smartphone.

Rumor: RAW support and TouchWiz RAM fix to debut on the Galaxy S6 edge Plus?

Well, the Android 5.1 update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge has started rolling out, but the latest information we have received from our insiders might just make you pull out your hair in frustration. We have been told that the support for RAW in the camera app and a fix for the RAM issues that the S6 duo suffers from will debut on the Galaxy S6 edge Plus, and might not be a part of the Android 5.1 update for the S6 and S6 edge before the S6 edge Plus goes up for sale.

Now, none of this is confirmed, but it might just make sense considering how Samsung has a habit of focusing on newer devices often at the expense of existing ones. However, if this is true, we’re not sure what good would come out of reserving the fix for the memory management issues for a newer device – it’s not a user-facing feature or function and just shouldn’t depend on whether a device is old or new. In fact, even support for shooting in RAW is a feature that a majority of consumers will never care about, and it would certainly not make for much of a marketing point considering it is already available on competing devices (like the LG G4.)

We can only hope that our information turns out to be incorrect – after the larger battery on the Galaxy S6 Active, this would be yet another insult to everyone who shelled out their hard earned money on the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge. We’ll be doing all we can to get more details on the matter, and keeping our fingers crossed that Samsung doesn’t go forward with what could be a very disappointing move by the company.

Tizen’s smartwatch market share falls to less than half during Q1 2015

Samsung has some grand plans with Tizen. The company has already released various products based on the Tizen including television sets, smartphones, smartwatches, and cameras. Due to company’s early entry into the smartwatch market, it managed to acquire a bigger share of the pie. However, Tizen’s smartwatch market share seems to tumbling due to Android Wear and other new smartwatch entrants.

According to Strategy Analytics, a research firm based out of the US, since the release of Android Wear-based smartwatches started hitting the retail shelves, Tizen’s smartwatch market share started dropping. In Q1 2015, Tizen smartwatch market share stood at 23.1 percent, which is less than half of what it was (47.8 percent) during Q2 2014. Not only big brands like Google and Apple, even newer brands like Pebble and Withings have released promising products.

Even though Samsung has released some of the most feature-packed smartwatches like the Gear S, consumers as well as experts have been left uninspired by their hardware designs. The company is readying its first smartwatch with a circular display codenamed Orbis, and has tied up with app developers in advance. What Samsung needs to do is, work on bringing more apps to its Tizen smartwatches, and make them work with other smartphone platforms such as Android, iOS, and Windows.

Samsung to partner with BlackBerry for the launch a new smartphone?

Two years ago, Samsung started advertising BlackBerry Messenger on Galaxy devices, and since then, its partnership with BlackBerry has been flourishing. Samsung is already working on increasing its presence in the enterprise market. BlackBerry’s enterprise services such as SecuSUITE and WorkLife are already compatible with the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge.

Sometime late last year, the South Korean smartphone giant worked with BlackBerry to provide end-to-end security for its Android devices. There were some rumours stating that Samsung wants to acquire BlackBerry for $7.5 billion, but the company denied it stating that it was interested in extending the partnership rather than acquisition. Now, a rumour states that Samsung is working with BlackBerry to release a new smartphone.

According to Eldar Murtazin, a well-known blogger and an analyst, has tweeted a possibility of Samsung partnering with BlackBerry to release a new smartphone based on Android Lollipop with BlackBerry services built into it. Reportedly, this smartphone will be released later this year.

If this turns out to be true, what do you think the device will look like? I can totally imagine an Android smartphone with a classic BlackBerry QWERTY keypad below its display. However, there’s a complete chance of it being anything close to that. What do you guys think?

Here’s our review of the Swarovski Crystal Protective Cover for the Samsung Galaxy S6

While Samsung’s own cases and covers for the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge have created controversies with respect to quality control, it made sure that its users have plenty of choice. Apart from partnering with regular case makers like Spigen, Amzer, UAG, Case-Mate, and Griffin, the company also worked with some fashion designers and luxury brands like Burton, Swarovski, Montblanc, Rebecca Minkoff, and Romero Britto. It showcased these colourful and luxury cases a few weeks ago on its official blog.

We (well, Danny’s girlfriend Kirsten) had a chance to grab the Swarovski Crystal Protective Cover for the Galaxy S6 and use it for a few days, and here’s our video review. The Swarovski case for the Galaxy S6 comes in four colors; Aurora White, Moonlight, Golden Shadow, and Aurora Green. It does feel very expensive, unlike any other usual cases that you can find in the stores, especially when you see it shining bright under sunlight.

For more details about the case, watch our complete video review that is embedded below.
