Galaxy Tab S 10.5 now $359.99 at eBay

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A 8.0 and 9.7 are due to arrive soon, but you don’t like the 1024 x 768p screen resolution and, although you find the metal chassis desirable for the hardware of your next tablet, you’re a tech enthusiast who thinks that the 1.2Ghz, quad-core processor is nothing special. At the same time, you also know that Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab S 2 (which is on the way) will be top-priced with the cutting-edge specs we’ve come to expect from Samsung – but you don’t want to shell out top dollar for it. Last but not least, you missed Samsung’s own Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Tab S 8.4 discounts the company offered earlier this month.

Well, we have the perfect deal for you. EBay has the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 on sale for $359.99 (28% off) at eBay currently. EBay seller deal_frenzy provides selling information for the Tab S 10.5, saying that it is “new open retail box w/simple cover” and has a 90-day warranty.

The Tab S 10.5, for the hard-core tech enthusiasts, features a 10.5-inch, Super AMOLED display with a 2,560 x 1,600p screen resolution, Samsung’s own Exynos 5 octa-core 5420 processor (clocked at 1.9Ghz) with 3GB of random access memory (RAM), 16GB of storage with the legendary microSD card slot for an additional 128GB (if needed). You also have a 2.1MP front camera and 8MP back camera for video recording (if you love YouTube) and photography, and Samsung’s trademark Ultra Power Saving Mode makes this tablet a huge win in our opinion.

The Tab S 10.5 in this deal only comes in the Titanium Bronze color, so no white models are available with this deal. Next, the Tab S offer looks good for only the Wi-Fi version (no LTE here). Last but never least, the Tab S has been updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, so you’ll get to download the latest from Google right out of the box (despite the device’s current Android 4.4 KitKat OS as listed on the seller page.

Are you ready to “tab into color” with the Tab S 10.5? If so, head on over to the source link below.

Samsung Display reveals key details about its most advanced display

Samsung Display has detailed the technology behind its most advanced flexible AMOLED display which debuted on the Galaxy S6 edge. This is the company’s third curved mobile display which provides extremely bright and colorful images with 3.6 million pixels. In addition to the “unusually fast” response time the display also consumes less power. Ho Jung Kim, a spokesman for Samsung Display, said that the company is witnessing increasing interest in its new display and that its working “extra hours” to increase production levels in order to meet high demand.

The display uses polyimide (PI) which is an advanced type of plastic as the substrate material instead of rigid glass that’s conventionally used in AMOLED panels. Samsung has been able to make a film thinner than a human hair out of this material and has been able to deposit an electronic circuit onto it. The flexible display can thus be used in single-edge designs or “dual-faceted” designs like that of the Galaxy S6 edge with a curvature of 6.5R for each side.

Since Samsung’s new flexible display is capable of driving each of its pixels individually this helps it to reduce power consumption, it reduces power consumption by 20 percent through pixel control technology which permits the device to use only 7mm of each column of the curved display at any one time. It touts the industry’s highest color reproduction rate and has a color gamut which perfectly supports the Adobe RBG color scale. The display provides Quad HD 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution with 557 pixels per inch which is currently the highest resolution available for any smartphone, total number of pixels on this display is 75 percent higher than the number in a full HD AMOLED panel used in devices like the Galaxy S5.

Developer gets Android Wear running on the Samsung Gear 2

Samsung might have launched a smartwatch, the Gear Live, running Android Wear, but the company has been using its own OS (Tizen) on all its other smartwatches. In addition to helping Samsung create its own ecosystem, Tizen has helped the Gear smartwatches offer considerably more features and better battery life over those running Android Wear.

But that’s not to say that Tizen is the best option for Samsung’s smartwatches. Quite a few users, yours truly included, believe that it would be better if Samsung would start using Android Wear, due to reasons like considerably higher developer support, Google Now, and the search giant’s leading voice recognition technology. Samsung will probably never support Android Wear though, but it looks like some Gear owners might still be able to run Android Wear, at least some time in the future.

XDA developer biktor_gj has managed to port Android Wear to the Gear 2 and managed to get it to boot on the watch after four months of work. The port is still a work in progress and isn’t available for download, but now that the watch is actually booting into Android, further development will probably bear fruits at a quicker pace.

Getting Android Wear to work on the Gear 2 also bodes well for the Gear S, which has pretty much the same hardware ticking away inside. Of course, it’s best not to get too excited considering that this may or may not result into something truly useful, but it’s great to see that there’s some hope for those that wish their Gear would run Google’s nascent smartwatch operating system instead of Samsung’s highly functional yet still limited Tizen.

Check out the source link for the details on the Gear 2 Android Wear port, especially if you’re a developer and can lend a hand in the port’s development.

Choose how long the capacitive buttons on your Galaxy S6 can stay lit or not with this app

You can’t turn off the backlit capacitive buttons for Back and Recent Apps on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge since the devices don’t offer that option, even if the screen is dim the capacitive buttons are bright as always. They can really be a nuisance particularly if you’re using the handset in the dark because you can turn the brightness all the way down but can’t do that for the capacitive buttons, not to mention the fact that precious battery life is spent on lighting them up. There is now a way to fix this.

There’s an app available on the Google Play Store called Galaxy Button Lights, it’s a very simple app that lets you choose how long the capacitive buttons on the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge should stay lit. It lets you choose a time duration, choose whether you would like the buttons to be always on when the screen is on or if you’d rather have them stay always off. The developer says that the app might work on recent devices like the Galaxy Note 4 but it has only really been tested on the Galaxy S6. You can download Galaxy Button Lights for free from the Google Play Store.
