June 2020 security update arrives on Galaxy S10 Lite

Samsung is on a roll today. After releasing the Android 11 update with One UI 3.1 to the Galaxy A20 and the Galaxy A30s, the company has released a new security update to the Galaxy S10 Lite. The new software update improves the privacy and security aspects of the smartphone by fixing various vulnerabilities.

The Galaxy S10 Lite (SM-G770F) is currently getting a new software update in Spain and Russia. The latest update, which has firmware version G770FXXU4EUF1, includes the June 2021 security patch. Samsung had published a detailed report earlier this week to reveal which bugs it has fixed with the latest security patch. The June 2021 update includes dozens of fixes from Google and 19 fixes from Samsung.

If you are a Galaxy S10 Lite user in the two countries mentioned above, you can download the new update by navigating to Settings » Software update and clicking on Download and install. You can also download the entire firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually. Other markets could get this update over the next few days.

The Galaxy S10 Lite was launched in February last year with Android 10 on board. Samsung released the Android 11 update to the smartphone in December 2020, ahead of most high-end smartphones. Three months ago, the Galaxy S10 Lite received the One UI 3.1 update with some new software features.

Samsung has updated most of its smartphones to Android 11 and One UI 3. Earlier today, the company released the Android 11 update to the Galaxy A20. Two weeks ago, the Galaxy A30s was spotted with Android 11 in Wi-Fi (WFA) certification database. Now, Samsung has released the Android 11 update to the smartphone.

The newest update, which has firmware version A307FNXXU2CUF2, brings Android 11 to the smartphone along with One UI 3.1 and the May 2021 security patch. The device should get Android 11 features like auto permissions reset, chat bubbles, conversations section in the notifications area, dedicated media player widget in quick settings toggles zone, one-time permissions, and improved privacy and security.

One UI 3 features like refreshed UI design, newer versions of all stock apps with more features, more Dynamic Lockscreen options, improved AoD mode, improved Digital Wellbeing and parental control features, redesigned Device Care page, easier-to-access smart home controls, and Auto Switch for Galaxy Buds.

Galaxy A20 finally gets the Android 11 update

Samsung has updated a lot of Galaxy smartphones and tablets to Android 11 over the past few months. The company initially released the update to high-end smartphones in the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Note series, and then to its foldable and mid-range devices. Now, Samsung has finally released the Android 11 update to the Galaxy A20.

The Galaxy A20 (SM-A205FN) is now receiving a major software update in Russia. The latest update, which has firmware version A205FNPUUACUF1, brings Android 11 (probably with One UI 3.1) to the smartphone, along with the June 2021 security patch. While we don’t have the official changelog yet, the update should include a refreshed UI design, updated stock apps, improved privacy and security. It also brings new features such as one-time permissions, auto permissions reset, conversations section in the notifications area, a dedicated media playback widget below quick setting toggles, chat bubbles, and more.

The update could also include more lockscreen widgets, AoD options, redesigned Device Care section, more accessible smart home controls, Auto Switch for Galaxy Buds, improved Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls, and more. The June 2021 security patch includes dozens of fixes for privacy and security-related vulnerabilities.

If you are a Galaxy A20 user in Russia, you can check for the latest update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. Alternatively, you can also download the appropriate firmware file from our database and flash it manually. The update could roll out to the Galaxy A20 in other markets over the next few days. The phone was launched in April 2019 with Android 9, and it received the Android 10 update in April 2020.

‘Less is more’ is why I’m looking forward to the Galaxy Z Flip 3

The older I get, the more I realize that I’m looking for fewer distractions in my day-to-day life, all the while I’m threading a fine line between comfort and minimalism without actually becoming a minimalist. Perhaps it’s a purely subjective mid-30s experience that’s difficult to put into words, but what I know is that it gave me a higher appreciation for purpose-built products that don’t try too hard to be what they’re not.

And this is why I admire the Galaxy Z Flip form factor more and more, why I’m excited to see where the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will go next, and why the upcoming model might become my first foldable daily driver.

The best thing about the Z Flip formula, in my opinion, is that it doesn’t try to do it all at once. The Galaxy Z Flip isn’t a tablet that turns into a smartphone or a smartphone that can double as a cumbersome productivity device on the go. It’s just a beautiful, compact phone that happens to be very smart, and I love it because of that. It has a purposefully-small cover display, and I hope that Samsung will never go overboard with this particular design detail.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Concept Render Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 White Green Concept Render

The Galaxy Z Flip form factor plays into the whole vibe of having fewer distractions, and it’s a perfect match for digital wellbeing. If you’re not a big fan of mobile games, want to cut down on screen time and social media, or if you want a compact device that doesn’t feel like a brick in your pocket, then the Galaxy Z Flip formula is your answer.

Of course, the Galaxy Z Flip is as capable as any other high end phone. It’s not like it can’t run mobile games or access social media networks. But because of its clamshell form factor and the odd display ratio, it doesn’t feel like it was made primarily for these tasks — unlike regular smartphones. It’s not a device made for multimedia consumption, but instead, it can be a deterrent to unnecessary distractions.

I know that some people won’t get it, and that’s fine, because it’s not for everyone

This is a purely subjective point of view based on my own experiences with mobile devices, so I’m well aware of the fact that although some people might find the Galaxy Z Flip form factor to be liberating and purposefully optimized, others will describe it as limiting and cumbersome. Both descriptions are true, depending on who you’re asking.

Simply put, I believe that the Galaxy Z Flip form factor was made for you if you’re a fan of the idea that “less is more” and you want to spend less time on your smartphone without cutting yourself off from the rest of the world entirely.

On the other hand, if you believe that “more is always better” then you’ll probably have a bad time with the clamshell form factor, regardless of whether it’s the Galaxy Z Flip or the Galaxy Z Flip 3. If you’re looking for a “one size fits all” device then you might want to look into other series, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 / Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

At the end of the day, I’m not trying to imply that you have the wrong mindset if you don’t like the Galaxy Z Flip form factor or you don’t plan to buy the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Far from it! Everyone’s free to draw their own conclusions based on their needs, past experiences, and what they expect from the products they purchase.

I’m also well aware of the appeal of using a device that’s as powerful and flexible as possible. Personally, raw power doesn’t impress me as much as it used to anymore. I tend to prefer the most optimal, rather than the most flexible solution in the majority of cases.

The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 3 will probably be the most purpose-built device yet, as far as compactness, minimalism, and digital wellbeing are concerned. And that is why it might become my first foldable daily driver. I know I’ll have to give up on a couple of luxuries in the process, but in an oddly liberating way, I’m looking forward to it.

Are you a fan of what the Galaxy Z Flip lineup stands for, or are you on the fence? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE might be delayed due to supply issues and Covid

The launch of Samsung’s first Fan Edition tablet might not go as smoothly as the company had hoped, at least not in every region. A new report from the local media claims that the tablet’s release in South Korea has been delayed by a month, from June to July.

The delay was reportedly caused by global semiconductor supply shortages and the fact that production at Samsung’s manufacturing plants in Vietnam was disrupted by Covid.

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE is already available for purchase in Russia. It was officially released today alongside the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. However, the Fan Edition tablet might not enjoy such a timely release in every other region if the rumors are true.

Although the tablet is available in Russia, Samsung has yet to reveal any availability details for the Galaxy Tab S7 FE in South Korea, which might indicate that the rumor about a one-month delay could be accurate. Samsung reportedly declined to comment “on unreleased products.”

But assuming that the delay is real and was caused by production issues in Vietnam and the global semiconductor shortage, then the possibility of a delay in other markets outside of South Korea also exists.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more about Samsung’s launch plans for the Galaxy Tab S7 FE in South Korea and other markets. On the bright side, the tablet’s release in Russia earlier today could indicate that Samsung isn’t facing any production issues at all, but time will tell. Take the latest rumor with a pinch of salt, and stay tuned.

350M smartphones got shipped in Q1 and the majority were Samsung’s

The global smartphone market grew 20% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2021, and Samsung was able to regain the top spot from Apple after losing it in Q4 2020. These results were helped by poor iPhone shipments in North America and Europe, reveals a new infographic by market research firm Counterpoint Research.

Global smartphone shipments declined 10% quarter-on-quarter compared to Q4 2020, but grew 20% YoY. In Q1 2021, the global market recorded almost 355 million smartphone shipments. Samsung had the largest global market share at 22% and was followed by Apple, Xiaomi, and Oppo, who have captured 17%, 14%, and 11% of the market, respectively.

Samsung is leading its rivals in Europe, LATAM, MEA

Apple led the market in North America despite it losing ground. It captured 55% of the market and was followed by Samsung with 28% market share.

Apple and Samsung were on equal footing in Asia, where they each have a market share of 12% and fall behind Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo.

However, Samsung led its rivals in Europe, LATAM, and MEA. The company captured 37% of the European smartphone market in terms of Q1 shipments, while Apple and Xiaomi had 24% and 19% market share, respectively.

In LATAM, Samsung had a 42% share and was followed by Motorola (22%) and Xiaomi (8%). As for the MEA region, Samsung led with 26% of the market.

Counterpoint Research also revealed a few interesting facts about the global feature phone market, where Samsung is the fourth-largest OEM. Global shipments declined 19% YoY and 15% QoQ. India remains the biggest feature phone market, and Samsung captured 19% of it in Q1.

Surprise! The Galaxy Tab S7 FE and Tab A7 Lite are officially for sale

Samsung’s two brand-new tablets — the Galaxy Tab S7 FE and the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite — were given a vague June release time frame when the company unveiled them late last month, but the wait is now over. At least for the Russian market.

The company confirmed today that both the Galaxy Tab S7 FE and the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite can now be purchased online in Russia. They’re available with LTE connectivity in two memory configurations.

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE LTE was launched in four color options, black, green, silver, and pink gold, with 64GB or 128GB of built-in storage. The 64GB model costs 49,990 ruble ($692), while the 128GB variant is priced at 54,990 ruble ($761).

The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite LTE is available in dark gray and silver, with 32GB or 64GB of storage. Prices start at 14,990 ruble ($207) for the 32GB variant and the 64GB model costs 16,990 ruble ($235).

Different price points for good reasons

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE and Galaxy Tab A7 Lite are almost nothing alike, and their prices reflect that they were built for different purposes.

The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is a budget tablet for light mobile gaming and multimedia consumption that offers access to Samsung TV Plus out of the box.

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE is the first FE-branded tablet to be released by Samsung, and it’s more of a productivity device that ships with an S Pen and can be paired with an optional keyboard cover accessory.

Since they’re both available in Russia, chances are that they’ll hit the shelves in more markets soon. Stay tuned.

Galaxy M32 is almost here, as official renders get published by Samsung

The Galaxy M32 was the subject of a major specs leak earlier today, and now, Samsung has pretty much made the phone official without explicitly saying so: The company has published renders of the Galaxy M32 in all their high-resolution glory on its website. Samsung has yet to publish information on the phone’s hardware and features or put out a press release, but we assume that will change soon.

This is a developing story…

New SmartThings app update with major UI changes available now

Earlier this week, Samsung announced a major update for the SmartThings app. The updated app gets a brand new user interface in addition to performance improvements that significantly speeds up load times.

The updated app is rolling out now. We’ve got the APK available for download here on SamMobile, so you don’t have to wait for it to eventually go live in your region.

SmartThings gets a new user interface

The user interface of the updated SmartThings app is more in line with the SmartThings app for Windows 10. Samsung released that app last month alongside the new Galaxy Book noteboks. The new user interface divides the app into five different sections called Devices, Favorites, Life, Automations and Menu.

Each section has its own purpose. For example, the Devices section shows the entire list of connected devices. Favorites is the new home screen that brings together your most used devices, services and scenes front and center for easy access.

The Automations section enables you to set specific conditions for devices and scenes. They are then enabled automatically when certain criteria defined by the user are met. The Life section provides you with a new way of discovering SmartThings services.

You can experience the new user interface in addition to the faster performance by downloading the latest SmartThings update from our database.

Galaxy A22 5G vs Galaxy A52 5G: It’s clear which one is superior

The Galaxy A22 5G is one of Samsung’s most affordable 5G phones of the year, while the Galaxy A52 5G is probably the best all-around value-for-money Galaxy A phone on the market right now. We took a closer look at the 4G variants side-by-side a couple of days ago, and now, we’re pitting the 5G models against one another.

To save you the suspense, here’s the conclusion: The Galaxy A52 — whether its 4G and 5G — is more powerful than the Galaxy A22, but more importantly, it boasts higher build quality with an IP67 rating, stereo speakers, and 25W fast charging.

So, it’s no mystery that the Galaxy A52 5G is technically superior to the Galaxy A22 5G. After all, it’s positioned higher up in the food chain and its higher price reflects that. But regardless, if you are looking for a closer side-by-side comparison between these two devices, look no further. Keep reading and check our device comparison widget below for more technical details.

Galaxy A22 5G vs Galaxy A52 5G: Display

Both the Galaxy A22 5G and the Galaxy A52 5G are a part of Samsung’s new generation of devices with high refresh rate displays. The A22 5G’s 6.6-inch screen has a 90Hz refresh rate while the A52 5G gets a 6.5-inch 120Hz panel. The difference between 90Hz and 120Hz isn’t all that huge, but the A52 5G does offer a key advantage as far as the viewing experience is concerned.

The A52 5G has an AMOLED panel instead of a TFT one, which means considerably punchier colors, higher brightness levels, and wider viewing angles. The TFT panels employed by Samsung for its mid-range phones aren’t all that bad, but they most certainly do not match the quality of the company’s AMOLED screens. The A52 5G also has smaller bezels around the screen thanks to the more modern Infinity-O design.

Galaxy A22 5G vs Galaxy A52 5G: Cameras

The Galaxy A22 5G has a different camera configuration than the 4G model. It’s a triple camera setup comprising a 48MP main shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, a 5MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. It lacks a macro camera, and the selfie sensor has a resolution of 8MP and can record 1080p@30fps videos.

The Galaxy A52 5G is one of Samsung’s very few mid-range phones that boast a 64MP main camera with OIS and PDAF. It’s accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and two 5MP depth and macro cameras. The selfie sensor boasts a resolution of 32MP and can record 4K videos.

Galaxy A22 5G vs Galaxy A52 5G: Hardware and software

The lower-cost Galaxy A22 5G uses a chipset from MediaTek, namely the Dimensity 700 5G SoC with eight CPU cores and a Mali-G57 MC2 graphics chip.

The Galaxy A52 5G has the Snapdragon 750G chipset with eight cores and an Adreno 619 GPU. The Snapdragon solution is superior in regards to performance, and it’s paired with 6GB of RAM at minimum.

The Galaxy A52 5G has 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage, while the Galaxy A22 5G has 4GB/6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of built-in memory.

The Galaxy A22 5G has a 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging. It’s larger by 500mAh than the Galaxy A52 5G battery, but it has slower charging (by 10W). Either way, the Galaxy A52 has amazing battery life, and only time will tell if the Galaxy A22 will be able to match it.

Beyond the internal hardware, the Galaxy A52 5G benefits from stereo speakers and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The cheaper Galaxy A model has a side-mounted sensor instead.

As for software, both phones run Android 11 and version 3.1 of Samsung One UI on top, but the Galaxy A52 offers a much more complete user experience and will benefit from three major Android OS updates instead of two.

Galaxy M32 specifications leak in full, expect a 6,000mAh battery

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A32 5G in January and the Galaxy A32 in February. Now, the company is reading a Galaxy M series smartphone that is largely based on the Galaxy A32. Some Galaxy M32 features were revealed earlier, but all of its specifications have now been leaked in a new report.

According to 91Mobiles and leakster Ishan Agarwal, the Galaxy M32 will feature a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-U display with Full HD+ resolution. It is not clear if the smartphone will continue to use a 90Hz panel, similar to the Galaxy A32, or drop down to a 60Hz refresh rate. The device will run Android 11 out of the box and come equipped with the MediaTek Helio G85 processor. It will be available in two memory configurations: 4GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB. It will also feature a microSD card slot (up to 1TB).

The upcoming mid-range Samsung smartphone will reportedly feature a 20MP selfie camera with an F2.2 aperture and 1080p video recording. At the rear, it could feature a quad-camera setup, featuring a 48MP primary camera (F1.8), an 8MP ultrawide camera (F2.2), a 5MP depth sensor (F2.4), and a 5MP macro camera (F2.4). The device measures 160 x 74 x 9mm and weighs 196g. It is claimed to feature a 6,000mAh battery, which is larger than the battery inside both Galaxy A32 and Galaxy A32 5G.

The Galaxy M32 could launch in Asian markets within the next few weeks. Samsung India has already published support webpage for the smartphone, which means that it will be launched in India. It was also revealed two days ago that the Galaxy M32 would feature 15W fast charging. The phone will be available in black and blue colors.

Samsung Display is on track to launch QD-OLED displays in H2 2021

Samsung Display, Samsung’s display panel manufacturing arm, had decided to switch from LCD to QD-OLED technology for TVs in 2019. The company said that it would invest around $11 billion by 2025 to manufacture large-sized OLED panels. It appears that Samsung Display is on track to release its QD-OLED panels in the second half of this year.

The company plans to release pilot products based on its new QD-OLED panels and send them to TV brands for analysis. Samsung Display had aimed to launch its QD-OLED panels for monitors and TVs in Q3 2021, and the company appears to be on track for the release timeline. The QD-OLED display panels are based on OLED technology, but there is a Quantum Dot (QD) layer to improve colors.

Samsung Display is making its QD-OLED display panels at its Q1 plant in Asan, South Korea, which went through various phases of trial runs over the past few months. It will start rolling out 30,000 sheets of Gen. 8.5 glass per month to manufacture QD-OLED panels. These panels will be available from 55-inch to 82-inch sizes in 4K and 8K resolution. These panels will compete with LG’s OLED panels and could be used by brands like TCL, Panasonic, Sony, and others.

System LSI, which designs semiconductor chips and camera sensors, has begun developing the three-timing controller (T-Con) chip for Samsung Display. This chip receives data from the processor and passes it to the display driver IC.

Can we expect QD-OLED TVs from Samsung?

The South Korean firm used to supply LCD panels to Samsung Visual Display (which uses those panels to make TVs and monitors). However, with Chinese display manufacturing companies competing fiercely in the LCD market and Samsung Display’s profits falling, the company decided to switch to premium OLED displays and the production of LCD panels entirely. It even sold one of its LCD plants to China’s CSOT (China Star Optoelectronics Technology).

Samsung Visual Display, however, didn’t want to sell OLED TVs as it would go against years of its marketing strategy against LG and its OLED TVs. So, Samsung Visual Display decided to switch to Mini-LED and MicroLED TVs instead and denied buying QD-OLED panels from Samsung Display. Instead, it will purchase OLED panels from Samsung Display’s rival LG Display.

Samsung Display, the world’s biggest display panel seller for years, recently lost its first position to China’s BOE. Its revenue dropped 29% quarter-on-quarter to $6.2 billion, while BOE’s revenue rose 50% to $7.7 billion. The global flat panel display market grew to $34..8 billion in Q1 2021, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and increased demand for TVs for entertainment and monitors for work-from-home and gaming.
