Samsung Galaxy J5 launching in South Korea for $260

One of Samsung’s first smartphones with a front-facing LED flash, the Galaxy J5, has been announced for the company’s home country of South Korea. The Galaxy J5 was launched in China and India earlier this month, and the phone’s claim to fame are its imaging prowess. In addition to a 5 MP front camera with an LED flash, the Galaxy J5 has a 13-megapixel rear camera with a low aperture of f1.9 that would help it capture more light in low-light conditions.

The rest of the hardware isn’t bad for the price either, especially for a Samsung smartphone and when compared to the disappointing Galaxy J1. The J5 features a 5-inch Super AMOLED HD display, a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable internal storage, dual SIM slots, LTE connectivity, and a 2,600 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, with the latest TouchWiz UX running the show on top. The design of the device is reminiscent of the Galaxy J1, with color options of gold, black and white.

The Galaxy J5 has been priced at 297,000 won (roughly $260); a concrete release date hasn’t been mentioned, though July 22 could be the day if we’re reading Google’s translated version of Samsung’s official post correctly. It remains to be seen if the Galaxy J7 will be launched in South Korea any time soon.

Incipio case lets you use a microSD card with your Galaxy S6 devices

Memory should no longer be an issue if you’re a proud owner of a Galaxy S6 or a Galaxy S6 Edge thanks to Incipio. The accessory passes as ‘Offgrid’ and it’s meant to expand your battery life, but as an added bonus it has a microSD slot. Using the slot you can expand your S6 memory by up to an additional 128GB.

We’ve seen some really neat Galaxy S6 accessories since the device was released, but few of them can actually match with the Incipio Offgrid. The case wraps a huge extra battery while protecting your device and also increasing your memory. Picking a case can be pretty difficult for a lot of people with specific goals in mind, but you can’t go wrong with the Incipio Offgrid because it basically covers most functionality of a case: protection, battery and storage.

In addition to all these neat features you’ll find that the Offgrid is quite easy to use. There’s a switch on the bottom side of the case that allows you to switch between charging or storage modes, with the obvious downside being that you can’t access your additional storage while charging. That won’t be an issue to most people when you put the storage into perspective: an 128GB memory card can offer you over 85,000 photos, over 2,000 hours of music and over 60 hours of videos. If you’ve been calling off a potential S6 or S6 purchase due to the lack of a removable battery or a microSD slot then you should totally go for it and get yourself an Incipio Offgrid.

Samsung offering a free Galaxy S6 with select 4K TVs in the US

Samsung has kicked off a new promotion in the US that is bundling a free 32GB Galaxy S6 with select 4K SUHD TVs. Well, anyone who has the cash to buy one of the TVs that are part of the prmotion won’t really be jumping in joy for the free S6, but it’s still a good freebie nonetheless considering the Galaxy S6 is the best of what Samsung has to offer in the smartphone space. If you prefer the Galaxy S6 edge, the promotion will reduce the price of the device to $400, which is around half of its regular price on the market.

The TVs that the offer is valid on are the JS8500 JS9000, JS9500, JS8600, and the JS9100, which are priced at $1,497.99, $3,497.99, $4,497.99, $7,997.99, and $8,997.99. To get the free Galaxy S6 (or the discounted S6 edge), you will need to head over to Samsung’s site and provide a scanned copy of your receipt and the TV’s serial number by September 1st 11:59:59 PM ET. Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 firmware now available online

The Galaxy Tab S2 with a metal build was announced earlier today, which is Samsung’s thinnest tablet ever with a waistline of just 5.9 mm. The tablet will be available for purchase starting next month, but its firmware is already available online.

The Galaxy Tab S2 will be offered in two variants; 8.0-inch and 9.7-inch screen sizes, both with featuring Super AMOLED displays and a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Other specifications include a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 5433 processor, 3GB LP-DDR3 RAM, 32/64GB internal storage, a microSD card slot, an 8-megapixel primary camera, a 2.1-megapixel secondary camera, and a newer version of TouchWiz UI that is based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. It also features a Galaxy S6-like touch-based fingerprint sensor, an upgrade over the swipe-based fingerprint sensor that was used in the Galaxy Tab S.

The firmware, with build number T815XXU1AOG5, is intended for the 9.7-inch cellular variant of the tablets that will be sold in Germany.
