Samsung smartwatches to aid customer service at flagship HSBC branch

HSBC is using Samsung smartwatches to enhance customer service and employee experiences at its flagship New York City branch. Dubbed the “branch of the future,” frontline staff at 452 Fifth Avenue will be equipped with customized Gear S3 smartwatches. The wearable devices will allow them to enhance customer service. It will enable more seamless and efficient in-branch communications between team members.

HSBC deploys Samsung smartwatches at flagship New York City branch

Traditional communication channels at fixed locations like desks will no longer bound employees. They will be able to move around in the branch while being able to communicate with each other at any time.

The custom Gear S3 app for HSBC has preset text messages that enable employees to quickly and discretely communicate about customer needs. Samsung Knox Configure will allow IT to automatically enroll new devices. They will also be able to re-configure the UI and messages based on the workflow needs.

An HSBC-branded watch face is present as well. It has a simplified interface which lets employees send requests quickly or notify colleagues of immediate service needs. Since the Gear S3 has LTE, employees will be able to stay connected even when they don’t have their smartphones nearby. They will even be able to make and answer calls among team members hands-free as and when required.

Initial results from the pilot showed that relying on the Gear S3 improved customer waiting times and allowed for more efficient communication. HSBC will be using the insights to identify better ways of working.

Samsung to release a Fortnite Galaxy accessory kit next week

Samsung may have a gaming smartphone in the pipeline but it won’t wait for that to promote the Galaxy Note 9’s suitability for mobile gaming. It hitched that wagon to the Fortnite hype train and obtained a short exclusivity period for the game’s launch on Android. The company has now announced that it’s going to release a new Fortnite Galaxy accessory kit next week.

This follows the exclusive Galaxy skin for Fortnite that Samsung released two months ago. The same skin that people have gone to great lengths to steal without having to buy a Galaxy Note 9 or Galaxy Tab S4. The company has also announced the result of the Fortnite contest it launched last month. Samsung has offered other incentives in the past as well related to Fortnite. Customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Note 9 were offered $150 worth of in-game currency.

Fortnite Galaxy accessory kit arrives next week

The Fortnite Galaxy accessory kit will be available to Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Tab S4 owners exclusively. It includes a new glider, back bling and a harvesting tool. It joins the Galaxy skin as an exclusive in-game item for owners of the aforementioned devices.

The contest required players to use the Galaxy skin and screenshot or record video of their best Fortnite moment. This was all for a chance to play Fornite with Ninja who is unquestionably the most popular Fortnite player on the planet.

Hector Diaz has won the contest and will join the Ninja Galaxy Squad. It includes Ninja, Travis Scott and Awkwafina. He’s a big fan of Ninja so playing Fortnite with him would be a dream come true for Diaz.

In addition to Diaz, there are three runners-up who are receiving the Cross-Platform Gamer Pack valued at $5,249. It includes a 65-inch QLED TV, 49-inch QLED gaming monitor and wireless noise-canceling headphones from AKG.

Samsung has revealed today that the Fortnite Galaxy accessory kit will be available starting Thursday, November 1. The Ninja Galaxy Squad’s stream will take place on October 30. It will be accessible through Ninja’s Twitch channel.

We can all agree that texting during driving is dangerous and should be avoided at all cost. However, sometimes you need to navigate to your destination and mounting your device can be both convenient and safe. We’ve gathered a list of good car mount options from cheap to high-end devices that even come with remote charging possibilities!

The cheaper option: Dawson Bros – Air Vent Car Mount Phone Holder

This car mount, with its price below $10, is cheap but very convenient. It comes with a magnetic strip that can easily be placed on your phone. After that it’s a matter of putting the mount in place at your air vent and you’re good to go. Very handy if you want to quickly mount and take off your phone as all you need to do us press your phone against the mount, no adjusting needed.

‘But I don’t want to look away from road!’: Zombaa Dashboard Car Mount

This device is perfect for if you don’t want to look to your left or right, as it can be positioned right in front of you. It’s easy to install and adjust and its grip makes sure your phone doesn’t fall.

Here’s a promising review from Amazon:

“Low profile, no need for suction cups or marks on my windows. I love it. I had a suction cup mount that worked OK, and I liked how it gave me flexibility to place the phone wherever I wanted, but this is a better long-term option. My suction cup mount broke and kept leaving marks all over the window. None of that’s a problem anymore. The jaw rubber is notched for multiple mount angles to reduce glare. You can mount the phone so the buttons are easy to reach, too.

The best rated: 3-in-1 Universal Phone Holder

So versatile! This one can be installed however you like. In the air vent, to the windshield, or on the dashboard – the choice is yours. The design also allows a charging cable to go in so it’s perfect for those long rides, too.

Another Galaxy S9 Android Pie leak shows more of the UI

There have been a couple of Galaxy S9 Android Pie leaks already. They have given us a good idea of what the Samsung Experience 10 UI will look like. There has been another leak today which reveals more of Samsung’s user interface.

It’s already known that the Android 9.0 update will bring major UI changes for the Galaxy S9 and other devices. The screenshots show that Samsung is continuing to refine the UI in subsequent test builds.

Galaxy S9 Android Pie leak highlights the UI

There’s a consistent typeface system-wide now. The SamsungOne typeface is rounder and certaily a lot easier on the eyes. As previously seen, the quick settings panel has been updated with a larger type.

This change extends to other system apps as well like messages and the dialer. The Galaxy S9 Android Pie update will also bring a system-wide dark mode, screenshots of which have already appeared online.

Samsung has also tweaked the Overview menu for switching between apps. It’s quite similar to how it is on stock Android Pie. The app previews now appear to be smaller compared to the earlier leaked builds.

The new app icons which have caused a frenzy among our readers are present as well. This goes to show that they will most likely be sticking around. The icons are quite polarizing. Some people like them but it appears that many don’t.

Samsung is expected to launch the official Android Pie beta program for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in the near future. The company is yet to confirm when that will happen. It launched the Oreo beta program in November last year. The coming month is just around the corner so we may not have to wait for much longer.

The public release is unlikely to take place before early next year. We have already told you that Project Treble support may not do much to speed updates for Samsung handsets.

What do you make of the Samsung Experience 10 UI so far? Do you think Samsung has made some unnecessary changes? Let us know in the comments below.

12GB of RAM on the Samsung Galaxy S10? Not so fast

There’s an interesting new story out on the internet today about the Galaxy S10. Apparently, Samsung has a Galaxy S10 variant (the 5G-enabled model) with a whopping 12GB of RAM onboard. Before anyone gets excited, we felt we should point out that this isn’t an actual specs leak. The leak that many are basing this on is just a screenshot from an analyst report about how smartphone RAM options have risen steadily in 2018 and how they might continue to increase next year as well. Basically, it’s an analyst predicting what could happen, not a proper leak.

A Galaxy S10 with 12GB RAM is a pipe dream

Galaxy S10 RAM options could go as high as 12GB, but they won't

Samsung could put 12GB RAM on the Galaxy S10, but it won’t. We just got to 8GB of RAM on Galaxy phones with the Galaxy Note 9, after all. While the Galaxy S10 will be special as the tenth-anniversary Galaxy S flagship, we really don’t think such a major RAM upgrade will be one of the highlights. 8GB of RAM is likely to be where the Galaxy S10 specs will max out. Chinese OEMs have already announced phones with 10GB of RAM, but there’s no way Samsung will be able to offer so much RAM without a notable increase in price.

Don’t forget: The Galaxy S10 may come with Samsung’s new all-screen display with features like in-display fingerprint sensor and possibly even an under-display camera, so it could already be quite costly compared to previous Galaxy S flagships. 12GB of RAM, in short, sounds too good to be true. And it would be quite useless as well. Samsung’s software isn’t the most optimized, but there’s no reason to have so much RAM on even the most bloated of phones other than as a marketing gimmick.

What do you think?

[Poll] Samsung’s Android Pie app icons will probably be better with final release

The one major worrying aspect of the Galaxy S9 Android Pie beta leak that surfaced earlier week is no doubt the new icons Samsung is using for its proprietary apps. As many of you pointed out in the comments, those icons just don’t look good. You could call them cute, but they aren’t what any of us want to see in the final Android Pie release. And, well, they probably will look much better in the final version of Pie.

Those Android Pie icons will like go through many changes

Galaxy S9 Android Pie icons

The few weeks between the alpha and beta Pie builds show how Samsung is constantly making changes to the user interface on Pie. There’s a new Night theme that will allow users to switch to a black theme across the OS without having to opt for third-party themes, and the beta build has a better implementation of the Night theme than the alpha one that came before it. It does seem like the new app icons are stock icons and not something out of a third-party theme. But we can expect Samsung to improve on those once it starts collecting feedback with the Android Pie beta program.

That beta program can go live any day now as we approach the time of the year the previous betas were announced, so don’t lose hope just yet. In the meantime, how about telling us your opinion of those new app icons down in the comments? You can also vote in the poll that you see below.

What do you think of those app icons on the leaked Galaxy S9 Android Pie build?

Galaxy Tab 2 Active gets Android 8.1 Oreo update, November 2018 patch included

Samsung is adding another device to the list of Galaxy phones and tablets that have been updated to Android Oreo. The Galaxy Tab 2 Active Oreo update is rolling out right now in Italy, along with the yet unannounced November 2018 security patch. This is the second device to get the November patch ahead of time, following the Galaxy J7 Prime that received the new patch earlier this week.

Galaxy Tab 2 Active Oreo update is based on Android 8.1

The Galaxy Tab 2 Active Oreo update is based on Android 8.1 and comes with software version T395XXU3BRJ5. You can expect the usual slew of Oreo features if you own the tablet, including an updated Samsung Keyboard app with new high-contrast themes and emojis, Dual Messenger, picture-in-picture view, improved App Shortcuts for the home screen and app drawer, and more. Many minor changes are also littered throughout the new OS, some of which you can read about in our What’s New With Android 8.0 Oreo series of articles.

Since this is a major update, it may take a few days (or weeks) to reach more countries. Those in Italy should be able to download it right away from the Software update menu in the tablet’s Settings app. If it isn’t available yet, you can try again in a few hours or download the firmware from our database and upgrade right away. The Wi-Fi-only variant doesn’t seem to be getting the update, but that shouldn’t be the case for long.
