Galaxy A5 (2018) Infinity Display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio confirmed

It was first reported several weeks ago that the upcoming Galaxy A (2018) devices will feature an Infinity Display. Evidence has now surfaced online which confirms that the Galaxy A5 (2018) Infinity Display will indeed have an 18.5:9 aspect ratio like the Galaxy S8.

The Galaxy S8 was Samsung’s first device with an Infinity Display. It has slim bezels and eliminates the physical home key. If the Galaxy A5 (2018) is getting this then we can reasonably assume that it’s going to be the same for the Galaxy A7 (2018) as well.

Galaxy A5 (2018) Infinity Display

Some reports have also suggested that while the Galaxy A5 (2018) will have an Infinity Display, it may not be curved. In that case, it will be similar to the one we find on the Galaxy S8 Active.

The international unlocked variant of the Galaxy A5 (2018) bearing model number SM-A530F has surfaced on the HTML5 Test website.

The listing reveals that this device is being tested with Android 7.1.1 Nougat onboard. That’s in line with previous reports that the Galaxy A (2018) series will come with Nougat out of the box and not Oreo.

The display’s 846 x 412 pixel resolution mentioned in the listing is inaccurate but it does confirm the 18.5:9 aspect ratio. All previous Galaxy A series handsets have a conventional 16:9 aspect ratio display.

This indirectly confirms that the Galaxy A5 (2018) is going to feature an Infinity Display. That means there won’t be a home button on the front. The fingerprint sensor would have to be relocated and it will likely find its way to the back just below the camera.

Samsung is yet to confirm anything about these devices officially. The Galaxy A (2018) series is expected to be launched early next year.

Galaxy Note 8 Tip: Hover S Pen to scroll in apps

This is a Galaxy Note 8 feature that some of you might not have discovered yet, particularly those who are new to the Note family. It’s possible to use the S Pen to scroll in apps. It’s just one of those features that you get the most out of your Galaxy Note experience.

We’ve already covered many Galaxy Note 8 Tips & Tricks extensively to help you take full advantage of all the features that your new phablet offers. If you tend to use the S Pen frequently you might also want to learn how to customize the Air Command menu on the Galaxy Note 8.

Galaxy Note 8 Tip: Scrolling With the S Pen

It’s pretty easy to take advantage of this feature. Simply hover the S Pen at the top or bottom of the display when you want to scroll up or down.

Do keep in mind that this feature doesn’t work in all third-party apps. It works in Samsung Internet but not in Chrome. It also works in WhatsApp but not in Facebook. This feature can be used to scroll in the Settings menu as well.

The feature isn’t new to the Note lineup but since it hasn’t been highlighted for the Galaxy Note 8 (there’s no setting to toggle it, either), those who are new to the Note family would only have found out about it by chance.

Burgundy Red Galaxy S8 is major winter goals

Winter is just around the corner and it’s a beautiful season. The leaves change color and the air has a certain je ne se quoi. The fashion trends change as well so as you pull out your best winter clothes and capture those perfect #wintergoals selfie, Samsung has just the right accessory for you.

Ahead of the upcoming holiday season, Samsung is launching a Burgundy Red Galaxy S8. The color fits perfectly with the season and will certainly make you want to get one.

Burgundy Red Galaxy S8

Even the ad that Samsung has released for this new color option is centered around the seasonal theme. You feel warm and fuzzy inside just by looking at it. That’s just the perfect feeling for those who love winters.

There’s nothing different about the device itself other than the color. The rear glass panel has a beautiful and rich red color. Everything remains the same, that includes the specifications as well.

There’s just one caveat. Samsung has only announced the Burgundy Red Galaxy S8 for South Korea. It’s unclear if the company is planning to bring this color option to other markets this holiday season. I have a feeling that if it did, it would prove to be very popular.

Deepsea Blue Galaxy Note 8 will be available in the US from November 16

The Galaxy Note 8 was launched with four color options namely Midnight Black, Maple Gold, Deep Sea Blue and Orchid Grey. The company has a habit of not offering all options at launch in all markets. This enables it to nudge sales along by launching a new color option several months after the handset has been released.

That’s precisely what it’s doing with the Deepsea Blue Galaxy Note 8. Samsung today confirmed that customers in the United States will be able to purchase the Galaxy Note 8 in Deepsea Blue starting November 16.

Deepsea Blue Galaxy Note 8

Samsung is launching the Deepsea Blue Galaxy Note 8 in the United States just ahead of the lucrative holiday shopping season. It’s hoping that the new color will lure customers who have been on the fence about purchasing this device.

Customers will be able to choose from Verizon, AT&T and Sprint versions of the device. The Deepsea Blue Galaxy Note 8 will be available exclusively at Best Buy stores and online via Samsung’s website.

The Galaxy Note 8 was initially launched with only two color options in the United States, Orchid Gray and Midnight Black. Deepsea Blue is a great option for customers who’re looking for something a bit different.

Samsung runs a trade-in program for customers in the United States. They can trade-in an eligible device and get an instant trade-in credit for the Galaxy Note 8 in any color.

Galaxy S9 could enter mass production as soon as next month

The upcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ could enter mass production as soon as next month, according to reliable tipster Ice Universe. If that turns out to be true—and we have no information to doubt the source’s claim—there’s a chance Samsung’s next flagship could hit the shelves a little sooner than expected.

While the prospect of holding the Galaxy S9 before April may excite you, it’s important to consider that the firm would have had to sacrifice crucial research time to bring the production date forward. That has resulted, as noted by The Korea Herald, in Samsung scrapping its plans for an in-display fingerprint reader.

Ice Universe believes that the company has made a number of changes to the rear of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ to make accessing the fingerprint scanner a little more bearable. Recent rumors suggest that they’ll both feature a vertically-mounted dual-camera setup, with a biometric reader located beneath it.

Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ to sport a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Infinity Display, respectively

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are rumored to sport a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Infinity Display, respectively, a Snapdragon 845 processor and a pressure-sensitive Home button. They should both ship running Android 8.0 Oreo skinned with a new version of Samsung’s Experience—formerly known as TouchWiz—user interface.

Galaxy C9 Pro now receiving Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in India

Samsung has today released the long-awaited Android 7.1.1 update for the Galaxy C9 Pro in India. The upgrade bundles all of the changes you’d expect to find baked into Nougat, as well as the tweaks included in Experience 8.5, the latest consumer build of the firm’s user interface.

Experience 8.5 doesn’t bring a great deal to the table, other than integration for Samsung Cloud, a revamped Device Manager application and shutter button zooming for the Camera client. It does, however, feel a lot smoother than the previous build, Experience 8.1.

Don’t panic if the update isn’t available for your Galaxy C9 Pro just yet

It can take up to a week for the upgrade to reach your Galaxy C9 Pro, so don’t panic if you don’t see an alert prompting you to install it right away. If you’d like to manually check to see if it’s ready for your handset, head into Settings, select About Device, then tap Download Updates Manually.

Thanks, Shanmuam!

Samsung’s preparing to launch the Galaxy J2 Pro (2017) in Africa

Samsung is preparing to release the upcoming Galaxy J2 Pro (2017) in Africa, according to a prematurely-published support page on its website. The handset, which was recently spotted on the Federal Communications Commission’s online database, is expected to feature near-identical internals to the Galaxy J2 (2016).

According to the accompanying documentation, the biggest difference between the Galaxy J2 Pro (2017) and the Galaxy J2 (2016) is that it ships with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. Like the latter, it should come with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display and a 1.5GHz Spreadtrum processor.

Galaxy J2 Pro (2017) should ship running Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Other notable specifications include an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 5-MP front-facing shooter and a 2,600mAh battery. The Galaxy J2 Pro (2017) should also ship running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but is thought to be eligible for the Android 7.0 Nougat update; however, there’s no guarantee it’ll receive it.

What’s New With Android 8.0 Oreo Part 10: Lock screen clock updated

Last week, we documented a number of changes included in the Android 8.0 Oreo beta for the Galaxy S8—and now we have another one to add to our list: the Lock screen clock changes color to match the wallpaper you’re using.

The feature is far from perfect, though. It tends to use the same shade for any background that includes the slightest trace of blue. The same can be said for red. We’re confident, however, that Samsung will improve it in the future.

It’s nice to see Samsung refine its interface

Sure, it’s not something you’re going to rush to try out—it doesn’t require any manual intervention to configure; set a wallpaper, then you’ll be good to go—but it’s always nice to see the firm introduce subtle changes to refine its interface.

Sprint releases October maintenance update for the Galaxy Note 5

Sprint is the first carrier to start distributing last month’s Security Maintenance Release (SMR) for the Galaxy Note 5 in the United States. Intended to compensate for the upgrade Samsung missed in September, the OTA bundles 215 patches for vulnerabilities in the Android operating system and six for the firm’s own software.

Related: Samsung details contents of October security patch

It’s worth noting, however, that October’s release doesn’t bundle a patch for the ever-so-scary KRACK Attack vulnerability, which—if not tended to—makes it possible for hackers to eavesdrop on your data when you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network. The good news is: Samsung’s addressed it in its latest SMR.

You can download the update from our firmware database

To check to see if the release is ready for your Galaxy Note 5, open Settings, select Software Update, then tap Download Updates Manually. If you don’t, for whatever reason, feel like taking heading down that route, you can wait until you receive an alert instructing you to install the OTA–or you can grab it from our database.
