Galaxy Buds Live leak offers the most complete view yet, confirms ANC

Samsung started teasing the Galaxy Buds Live on Twitter earlier today, but it looks like unofficial sources have already stolen Samsung’s thunder. Shortly after the company posted its teaser video as an invitation to Galaxy Unpacked 2020, Twitter user @h0x0d shared a much better view of the Galaxy Buds Live.

Firstly, the source shared a leaked promotional video for the Galaxy Buds Live (seen below), showcasing the earbuds in all three color options. Then, the source followed up with a render (image above) depicting – for the first time – the other side of the kidney-shaped Galaxy Buds Live.

Active Noise Cancellation seemingly reconfirmed

Interestingly enough, the leaked Galaxy Buds Live video also contains the caption Keep the noise out. Let the sound in. This seemingly confirms that the Galaxy Buds Live will indeed have Active Noise Cancellation as well as Ambient Sound.

Samsung has been recently referring to the Galaxy Buds Live as the new power of sound and, indeed, the addition of ANC would mark a big step in the evolution of the company’s range of TWS. Assuming that the earlier reports are correct and the Galaxy Buds Live will cost less than $150, Samsung might have a winning product on its hands. Of course, battery life will play a big role in how the Galaxy Buds Live will be perceived by customers, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the product to test these parameters for ourselves. Stay tuned and we’ll tell you all about the Galaxy Buds Live as soon as we learn more.

Samsung starts teasing Galaxy Buds Live as the ‘new power of sound’

Samsung has been teasing the August 5 Galaxy Unpacked event on its official Twitter account for the past few days now. It has posted a couple of short teaser videos depicting a liquid bronze material morphing into different shapes against a white background, and the latest such video appears to be teasing the upcoming Galaxy Buds Live.

The caption reads ‘experience the new power of sound’ but Samsung doesn’t go into detail as to what exactly this means from a practical point of view. In other words, we know that the Galaxy Buds Live will have a different shape, but specifications are largely unknown and the teaser acts more as an invitation to the virtual Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event than anything else. It’s scheduled to take place on August 5 which is going to be a big day for both Samsung and its fans.

The company is not only going to launch the new Galaxy Note 20 series on that date but may also reveal a completely new take on its wireless earbuds. We say ‘may’ instead of ‘will’ because we can confirm the Galaxy Buds Live were originally planned for an official unveiling on July 22. And although there’s still a chance that the new earbuds will be introduced within the next few days, this early launch may have been delayed and Samsung may have rescheduled it for August 5. At least this is what the teaser seemingly implies.

Whether the Galaxy Buds Live launch will take place next week or next month remains to be seen, but regardless, there’s a sense of wonder and anticipation surrounding the new wireless earbuds. Samsung has been using the same design for its TWS for the past couple of years. Save for the exterior colors, the Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ are indistinguishable from one another, but that’s not going to be the case for the next-gen wearable.

The Galaxy Buds Live are expected to have a completely different look with each earbud having been shaped like a kidney bean. Samsung hints at this new design for the Galaxy Buds Live in the recent teaser video as well. Check it out below and let us know if you plan on getting Samsung’s new earbuds once they go live, no pun intended.

Samsung’s Snapdragon 662 tablet drops name hints as release nears

Samsung’s next mid-range tablet identified by model number SM-T505 will likely launch as the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2020), or perhaps even as the Galaxy Tab A7. The former possibility was already subject to sizable speculation ever since the said model designation first appeared in some benchmark listings earlier this week. However, Samsung itself submitted it for Wi-Fi certification as the “Galaxy Tab A7”, which breaks precedent with its standard communications practices that usually have it avoid marketing names altogether when dealing with any kind of regulatory authority.

What makes the SM-T505 different, if anything, remains to be seen. For now, this seems to be the very same slate – code-named “Bengal” – which was previously spotted in benchmark listings mentioning a combination of an octa-core Kryo 260 CPU and the Adreno 610 GPU. Both the Snapdragon 665 from last year and the newer Snapdragon 662 would fit that CPU-GPU combo and while a newer SoC might seem like an obvious choice, this has hardly been a year of obvious choices for Samsung. The WFA certificate also mentions Android 10, but no Wi-Fi 6 support, as is to be expected from a decisively mid-range product.

Samsung’s tablet business remarkably stable in 2020

The SM-T505 is believed to be the LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab A7, whereas the iteration limited to Wi-Fi should be designated as SM-T500. Samsung tends to launch Galaxy A-series devices globally but between this range, the recently released Galaxy A 8.4 (2020), and the rumored SM-T575 borrowing some of the original Galaxy S9 specs, the tech giant is really keeping us guessing about its near-term plans. Of course, the flagship Galaxy Tab S7 family is just around the corner as well, but that line is in a price range of its own.

All things considered, Samsung’s tablet business has actually been remarkably stable this year, which may be what prompted this recent wave of experimentation.

You can now download the official Galaxy Tab S7+ wallpapers before launch

Even though Samsung’s next flagship tablet series is weeks away from its debut, we were able to acquire the official wallpapers for the Galaxy Tab S7+ ahead of time. Indeed, as with many other new Galaxy device releases, Samsung has created a series of fresh colorful wallpapers for its upcoming flagship tablet. The wallpapers have an abstract design, so attempting to describe them in text wouldn’t make them justice. With that in mind, we created the gallery below for you to decide whether or not these wallpapers are worthy of your screen real estate.

SamMobile readers who may want to get a taste of the Galaxy Tab S7 or Galaxy Tab S7+ ahead of time can now download these wallpapers from our archive. We don’t advise downloading these images from the gallery below because they have been compressed, however, we provide a 76MB ZIP file containing all the high-definition wallpapers – a total of twelve – in a resolution of 2800 by 2800 pixels. Simply click this link to download the ZIP archive directly to your device and enjoy!

The Galaxy Tab S7 isn’t the only flagship device likely to be unveiled next month, and we expect Samsung to release new wallpapers for the Galaxy Note 20 series as well. We’ll share them with our readers as soon as we have them so stay tuned.

This is our first look at a detailed 360-degree Galaxy Note 20 render

The first real Galaxy Note 20 Ultra renders have leaked a couple of weeks ago, giving us a detailed look at the phone’s exterior design and especially the rear-facing camera setup. Those initial renders were accidentally shared by Samsung itself so they should reflect the flagship’s final design very closely. Now, prominent industry leaker @evleaks has acquired a 360 degree render of the smaller Galaxy Note 20, and the camera differences between it and the Ultra model are more evident than ever.

The Galaxy Note 20 360 degree render shared by @evleaks on his Patreon page reveals a triple camera setup that lacks a ToF or laser autofocus module. More so, the render seemingly confirms that the Galaxy Note 20 lacks a periscope-type camera, meaning it won’t have the same zoom capabilities as the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

The 360-degree view of the Galaxy Note 20 also appears to confirm that at least the smaller S Pen flagship will have a flat display. We’ve known about this possibility for about a month now, but it’s still unclear whether this change in design will be adopted solely by the Galaxy Note 20 or by both it and its larger Ultra sibling.

Other design details revealed by the render include an Infinity-O display design with a selfie cutout in the center, similar to the Galaxy Note 10 series. Very early rumors suggested that Samsung may finally introduce in-display selfie cameras with the Galaxy Note 20 series, but the technology is not yet viable for the consumer market so we’re getting an Infinity-O panel instead.

Last but not least, the Galaxy Note 20 carries its physical buttons on the right edge, and we have to admit that the matte finish depicted in this render looks stunning. Check out the 360-degree render below and let us know your thoughts on the Galaxy Note 20’s exterior design.

Portable SSD T7 is now available in India, 870 QVO coming next week

Samsung’s Portable SSD T7 and 870 QVO SSD solutions have now been officially introduced to India. The former SSD model’s selling points include durability, portability, and fast read/write speeds, while the latter SSD is an internal solution mean primarily for PC users.

Portable SSD T7: a great solution for users on the move

As the name implies, the Portable SSD T7 is an external SSD and it’s nearly identical to the Portable SSD T7 Touch, except it lacks a fingerprint sensor. It’s now available for purchase in India in three color options including Metallic Red, Indigo Blue, and Tital Gray. It comes with 500GB, 1TB, or 2TB of storage, and it costs INR 9,999 ($133), INR 17,999 ($240), and INR 29,999 ($400), respectively.

The Portable SSD T7 has a PCIe NVMe interface and it can achieve maximum read/write speeds of 1,050MB/s / 1,000MB/s. As an external drive, it can be used to securely store data from a PC, tablet, smartphone, gaming console and more.

870 QVO SSD offers best-in-segment speeds and up to 8TB capacity

In contrast, the 870 QVO SSD is a SATA-based internal drive designed mainly for PC users. Samsung claims it brings best-in-segment sequential read/write speeds, topping up the limit of the SATA interface at 560MB/s read and 530MB/s write.

The 870 QVO SSD will go on sale in India through online and offline retail channels starting July 20. It will be available with 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB of storage. Prices have been set at INR 9,999 ($133), INR 19,999 ($266), INR 39,999 ($533), and INR 74,999 ($1,000), respectively. Once again, you’ll have to wait until Monday before being able to buy the 870 QVO SSD in India, but the Portable SSD T7 is already listed on Samsung’s e-shop.

Galaxy Note 20 lineup secures certificates ahead of Thailand release

The Galaxy Note 20 series has secured another certificate ahead of its August release, this time from Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC). Specifically, the regulatory body has approved the LTE variants of both the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. As expected, the devices carry model numbers SM-N980F and SM-N985F, respectively, and as if more proof was needed that Samsung is changing the naming scheme of its S Pen flagships, the SM-N985F model number has been associated with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra moniker once again.

Both phones have also been confirmed to boast dual-SIM capabilities, but this shouldn’t surprise anyone given Samsung’s history of dual-SIM devices. No other specs have been revealed by the NBTC.

There’s no rhyme or reason for the 5G models to be skipping Thailand

As yet, the NBTC doesn’t seem to have approved the 5G models of the Galaxy Note 20 flagship series, but that’s not to say the duo will be limited to LTE connectivity. Samsung had already released a couple of 5G phones in Thailand, including the Galaxy A71 5G as well as the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, so there’s a strong possibility that early 5G adopters in Thailand will have the opportunity to buy the 5G-enabled Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra sooner or later.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 20 lineup on August 5 at Galaxy Unpacked, and the phones should be hitting the shelves in most countries by the end of the same month.

New Galaxy S20 series update rolling out, brings no notable changes

No other flagship Galaxy smartphone in recent memory has received as many updates after launch as the Galaxy S20 lineup. Quite a few times, Samsung has released two updates for the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra in a single month, and it is doing so again. The last Galaxy S20 series update brought with it a few camera improvements and the July security patch, and it is now getting a new firmware update with the same security patch.

From what we can see, this update — firmware version G98xxXXU3ATG4 — is accompanied by no notable changes or improvements. The only thing that seems to have changed is the service provider code, suggesting some network-related improvements are included. What those are, however, is a mystery. It is also unclear whether this update will be made available globally or if it’s a limited release for some markets.

With the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra merely three weeks away from going official, it’s good to see Samsung’s priorities haven’t completely shifted to its upcoming flagship and that it is continuing to support the Galaxy S20 series with the same passion that it has displayed in the last couple of months. Of course, how long that passion will last is something only time will tell.

If you own a Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, or Galaxy S20 Ultra in Israel or the UAE, you can download the latest update over the air by tapping Download and install in the phone’s Settings » Software update menu. The update may also be available in other regions, and the procedure to check if it’s out in your country is the same as above. You will also find the latest firmware for the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra in our firmware archive and can use it to upgrade your phone manually using a Windows computer.

  • Model: SM-G980F
  • Dimensions: Bar: 151.7 x 69.1 x 7.9 mm
  • Display: 6.2 inch / 157.48 mm Dynamic AMOLED 2X
  • CPU: Exynos 990
  • Camera: 12MP
